Re: Those get up and yell moments...

I love it when this game reminds me of why I like The Game.

I hadn't played for awhile, but just started up a new franchise (with a fantasy draft), intending to focus on simming but playing a few games as well. After the first game reminded me how rusty I am, I decided to stick with simming with the occasional managing for this Mets franchise. My 2012 club just narrowly lost the NLCS. In 2013, we were down 3-2 to Colorado, so I decided to manage the next game. I skipped ahead in the rotation to start Yu Darvish.

    My lineup was:

    RF - Bryce Harper
    SS - Jurickson Profar
    1B - Albert Pujols
    3B - Brett Lawrie
    C - Jesus Montero
    CF - Colby Rasmus
    LF - Ryan Kalish
    2B - Gordon Beckham
    P - Yu Darvish

I was behind most of the game, Lawrie tied it at 3 with his second solo shot in the 6th, Tyler Flowers hit a first pitch home run in the top of the 7th to take back the lead. Mike Stutes gave up a two run HR to Dustin Pedroia in the top of the ninth, making it 6-3. I was fairly certain I was done, but did remind myself that anything can happen in baseball. Despite my very low hopes, I resisted letting exiting to sim the bottom of the ninth.

Chris Perez came into to close it out for the Rockies.
    Kalish flied out.
Beckham singled for his first hit of the game.
I had Starling Marte pinch hit for Stutes, and he drew a walk.
Harper hit a HR for his second hit of the game, tying things up, and I whooped for joy and jumped up off the couch. I couldn't play sitting down any longer.

Livan Hernandez comes to the mound.
I had Starling Marte pinch hit for Stutes, and he drew a walk.
Profar hits a groundball single for his first hit of the game.
Pujols then hits a double to center field. Except he is just barely tagged out at second. I thought this was out number three, and the electronic cigarette that was in my mouth rather dramatically dropped to the floor along with some of my elation.

Then I saw that Lawrie was coming to the plate ... it wasn't over yet!

On the first pitch, Lawrie knocks it out of the park, and I nearly lost it. Other games will draw emotional responses from me, but this typically results in at most a chuckle, maybe a solemn feeling for awhile ... I'm not generally the kind of person that exhibits much in the way of an emotional reaction that others can see. But, somehow this stupidly buggy baseball sort-of-simulator is able to cause me to pump my fist in the air, break out into rather hysterical sounding laughter, and give a big loud '**ck yeah!!'.

In the final game of the NLCS, Tommy Hanson was the Rockies starter, with Shelby Miller starting for me. It felt like we were dominating the whole way. We scored a run in the first inning with no outs, but ended up leaving two guys on base. We had base runners every inning (until the 9th) from there on in, Hanson seemed to be pitching horribly ... but somehow we could never quite bring anyone home. Miller didn't give up a hit until the sixth inning. Tyler Clippard was my closer; I almost decided to put Venters instead, but decided that was silly.

Desmond Jennings was struck out in three pitches.

    Travis Ishikawa flew out.

Wilson Betemit singled on a 1-2 fastball.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis was quickly at 0-2, and I jumped up on my feet expecting to have the NL pennant in in my virtual hands shortly. Instead Clippard's letter-high fastball down the middle was hit for a home run, and the bottom of the ninth was the only inning we didn't get a single man on base.

You never know whats going to happen ....

Game 2 of the ALDS, It's 7-7 with 2 outs in the 9th inning. Prince Fielder is up. I never have used power swing in 5 years of playing, but I started using it for my big hitters that game. So I'm working the count, it's 2-2 count. He threw a curveball and this pitcher was always following a curve with a fastball so I was sitting on that, trying to end the game. And I got one right over the plate, put a great swing on it, I could tell in that split second I had got all of it. The camera just zooms out and I hit 440 feet down to right field. Was pretty cool to see the celebration.

2nd game of the year, I'm the Cubs hosting the Nats. It's a pitchers duel as Gio Gonzalez & Demoster pitched 7 scoreless innings. In the top of the 8th with 2 outs, their pinch hitter, Tracy, hits a ball to left that Soriano inexplicably dives for(auto fielding) and that leads to a triple. The next guy up hits a nubber that I can't field cleanly and the run scores. So after pitching great the whole game I'm down 1-0 & I'm pissed.

Bottom of the 8th I go in order. Nothing happens in the top of the 9th so now bottom of the 9th, Starlin Castro leads off and hits a ball to right that Werth dives for and misses, the ball rolls back to the ivy and Castro legs out an inside the park home run, my first ever in a baseball video game. LaHair is up next and he gives the ball a ride to deep center but it stops t the warning track. The next batter is Ian Stewart who takes a 2-0 pitch deep to right and ends the game on a walkoff HR!! My first walkoff and my first inside the park HR all in the same inning!

I wanted to "get up and yell" but I was playing in bed on my Vita with my wife sleeping next to me so I had to settle for a silent fist pump lol.

Nothing beats a Walk Off HR.

Once I was down 5 in the bottom of the 9th and came back to win. And in that same inning I was down 3 with two outs too... the key was knocking the closer out, cuz once the closer gets pulled they put in the crap pitchers who you can just pretty much destroy.

I finally got my first walk-off homer and it felt great! I'm using the Brewers in a fantasy draft season. It's the second game of the season against the Cardinals and we were down 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh when Josh Reddick blasts a solo homer to left field to tie it up. That alone made me jump up with excitement. We then go to the bottom of the ninth still tied 3-3 and with 1 out and a man on first Reddick blasts a 2 run walk-off to right field! Oh man I jumped out of my seat I would've yelled out but my daughter was asleep so I had to silently celebrate lol but I wasn't any less excited. Man what a great game.

Re: Those get up and yell moments...

Was playing earlier this morning in year 2 of my royals franchise (21-21 so far), against the Astros. I was able to start of the game with four runs in the first to which I lead for a couple of innings.

Around 4th inning the stros started to make a comeback as Britton let up 3 runs through the next 3 innings to make it 4-3 in the 6th still my lead. I brought in holland in the 7th and he let up a 2 run homerun to altuve to give the stros a 5-4 lead.

The score stayed the same until the top of the ninth inning. Wil myers reached first on a single to right field in the first at bat and Alcides Escobar then comes up to bat. Esky unfortunately on offense has been terrible for me on the year, (batting .200) (but very good on defense) with a 1-2 count I figure the slider on the outside is coming. Its pitched and Esky pulls a beautiful swing and blast. 400 foot homer to the left field of minute maid park.

I jumped up screaming "shortstop jesuss!!" And pumping my first in the air, for sure waking up the baby our downstairs neighbors have lol. Broxton then comes in to make jd martinez ground into an awesome double play by alcides.. Winning 6-5 and now 22-21 on the year. What a great feeling.

                    Oh man...

Game Six of the NLCS... playing as the Braves and I'm leading the series 3-2 against the Nationals... I was up 4-0 in the 7th... I was pitching a no-hitter for six innings, but in the 7th my pitcher got in trouble... should have pulled him, but I didn't... he gave up a grand slam and I eventually lost the game by one run in extra innings. I totally blew it.

Game Seven of the NLCS... Series tied 3-3... I am winning 1-0... when in the top of the 9th I get in trouble... bases loaded no outs... I give up two runs. I thought I totally blew it again and the World Series was slipping away. Now down 2-1 in the bottom of the 9th, runner on 1st with 1 out... Chipper Jones comes to the plate. I finally get one pitch right down the middle and I destroy it... Game 7, NLCS, walk-off homerun.

I will now play the Detroit Tigers in the World Series and I don't even care if I win or not... nothing will beat that NLCS win... that was 7 games of brutal back and forth high tension baseball.

Re: Those get up and yell moments...

I have a great season going with the Tigers right now and Fielder was in a big slump so I sat him for the game to rest him up and get some AB's for other guys. Well Young wasn't doing any better and it was the bottom of the 12th and I wanted to win. So in comes Prince. I got a first pitch fast ball and just hooked it foul, then got 2 balls inside and was set up for a fastball. I get my fastball high and away and was sitting on it. I got good wood to opposite left center and was thinking it was bound to be a double but Prince flexed his muscles a bit and the ball flew over the fence.

Awesome way to win the game with a slumping player.

I clinched the AL East with the Red Sox and faced the Tigers in the ALDS. I went up 2 games to none then lost the 3rd. Game 4 I'm up 4-0 in the 7th. The Tigers next inning had the top of the lineup due up, so I wanted some insurance. Two outs, James Loney, batting 3rd hits a single up the middle. David Ortiz, batting .083 and doing nothing for me this series steps up. I guess changeup inside and crush it for a 2 run Homerun giving me extra insurance and a comfortable lead.

Scott Atchison closed out the 8th and 9th innings and I advanced to the ALCS. I'm facing the Rangers, currently up 3 games to 1.

Mine aren't as dramatic as a lot of these since I just started playing RTTS so I'm still in AA but I still get excited.

My SS had a goal of getting one home run and I hadn't been able to meet it since I was not really a power hitter and still learning the game. It was the last day before my evaluation and I got the day off, but got put in to pinch hit in the bottom of the ninth, game tied, one runner on second. I took a couple pitches and then saw one I liked and turned on it, sending it just over the right field fence for the walk off, first ever HR, and to pass my goal.

Game 2 of the ALDS. Yankees(me) versus Tigers(CPU). Pettite versus Fister. The game goes back and forth all the way to the 8th inning. It is tied 4-4 and I bring in Robertson. Alfonso Soriano steps in with no one on and 2 outs and smashes a homer, his 2nd of the game to make it 5-4. Fast forward to the bottom of the 9th. Valverde comes in and gets two easy outs. Up steps Granderson, and with two strikes I crank a homer into right field to tie it up! Fast forward to the top of the 11th. I brought in Nova from the bullpen, and he promptly gives up a 2 run homer to Boesch. In the bot of the 11, Granderson steps up to the plate and hits a homer to make it 7-6. The next batter is Martin, and I hit a line drive to right field that Boesch misplays. Martin ends up on second, and then Eduardo Nunez hits a RBI single to tie it up. Then in the 13th, Nova gives up 2 home runs, one to Soriano to give him 3 for the game. I end up losing 11-7. It was a crazy game and I was jumping up a few times!

My SS Skeeter Hayes just hit an inside the park walk off HR. It has to be one of my greatest moments in my baseball gaming career. It was so amazing. First pitch in the bottom of the 12th inning I sent flying to the deepest part of the park (400 something feet). I was shocked when I saw the third base coach waving me in. I saw the replay and the CF missed the cut off man.

Re: Those get up and yell moments...

Just had one happen to me, but for all the wrong reasons. Going into the All-Star break on a 4-game losing streak and wrapping up against the Mets. Dempster pitched 7 great innings, 7 K's and only 2 runs allowed, and in the top of 7th and 8th innings I scored a combined 7 runs to go up 9-2. Bottom of the 8th the Mets go into "No Chance In Hell Are You Winning This" Mode and score 6 runs on a 2-out rally. Bottom of the 9th I bring in Marmol, Mets pinch hit and bring in Daniel Murphy, who bunts for a single. I'm kind of surprised, but whatever. Next batter is Torres who promptly bunts for another single as neither Marmol or my catcher can throw him out. I'm pretty angry now, this was a stupid turn of events. Next up is Jason Bay who squares up to bunt, my catcher fields the bunt and throws to first and Rizzo drops the ball. Meanwhile Murphy rounds third and runs towards home, I throw to home and the throw beats Murphy, but the tag misses. Now I'm just flabbergasted, incredulous at the b.s. I just witnessed. Next batter is Nieuwenhuis and Marmol can't throw a strike for the life of him and walks the bases loaded. I'm in a daze at this moment, I can't believe this is happening. Next batter is Ike Davis, I call a visit to the mound to get Marmol's confidence back up, Davis rockets a lin drive over my second basemen's head and the Mets walk off winners.

                                Incredible. F'n incredible.
