I personally like looking in my organization as well. However in one of my old franchises I traded for David Robertson who was pretty much lights out in the month or so of the franchise I played.

Tyler Clippard is really good. Plus fastball and a lot of strikeouts.

I love me some Alexi Ogando. I've used him in like 4 or 5 roles in one season. Started him as a long reliever. My #1 SP got hit in the head by a line drive in the 2nd inning of his first start, Ogando came in and threw 6 innings, 8 K. I then put him in the rotation in that spot until my SP was back. Then I moved Ogando to kind of a 2 inning set up role, letting him throw the 6th and 7th or 7th and 8th. He got a few 3 inning saves that way. Then I moved him into the closers role when my closer got injured.

The following year, I actually paired him up with one of my SP prospects so that the prospected started and threw 5-6 and Ogando just finished the game from there. That experiment stopped after a month when I went a few games of Ogando being tired when I wanted to get him in the game.

I don't know what it is about Ogando's stuff but he was absolutely lights out dominant for me. I seriously gush over him because he is by far my single best pitcher. I would trust him in any role.

i like finding current closers in the game to be setup men..

joakim soria, joe nathan, jj putz, huston street are some good ones that i can see taking a setup role..

or relief pitchers that are good enough to be closers that are blocked..

sergio romo, thornton, reed, pestano, clippard, krod

As many others have said on here Tyler Clippard is straight dynamite in the set-up role.

Re: Who are some good setup men?

Slightly unrelated, but I was reading that pitching the 8th is generally more tough than pitching the ninth because you tend to go through the meat of the order more often than closers - hence having top setup pitchers is an absolute must, especially since (for some reason!) closers are barely used outside the ninth, a far cry from the 'fireman' role they really should be. I think we shall see a huge change in the roles of relief pitchers and closers etc. in the coming years (see the Rockies and their plans on how to manage their bullpen - 75 pitch cap on a 4 man rotation).

Anyhoo I'd probably go with Downs, Benoit or Joel Zumaya (if he isn't injured all the time).

Dude I know your trying to fit some example in to show that pitching changes but the Rocks example isn't close no one else in modern baseball will ever do that, and if one does I'll eat this phone I'm posting from!

I always go with cheap closers as my setup when im not playing as the Nationals. When I am its always Clippard. He is just crazy good

Christian Martinez w/Braves. He is not a setup, but he could do the job. No edits to his attributes. I am using him as MRP. His stats are ERA 1.02 17IP 20K, .195 .AVG. I have only played about 45 games.
