    Braves SS Issue

Approaching the allstar break in my chise and I still cannot truly say Wilson, Simmons, or Pastornicky deserve the job.
    Wilson 11gs, hitting .182
    Simmons 31gs. hitting .211 2 HR
Pastornicky 23gs hitting .202 1 HR 3 3B(Missed around ten games due to injury)

I was just wondering if anyone is having the same issue? Or any advice?
I wanted to avoid a trade but at this point I need a damn SS that can produce in the lineup.

    What would you do?

    Re: Braves SS Issue

Pastornicky was doing just okay for me in my 2012 season, sitting around .260/.270. Then when I traded Jack Wilson, Tyler got hurt, and I experimented with some of the minor league guys like Josh Wilson. Eventually, I made a trade for Geoff Blum to get some pinch hit appearances and spot starts on the left side of the infield.

I'd like to say my SS position wasn't ever solved by any means, but I still got to "work" with a couple of guys there. Now I'm in my 2013 season, and Pastornicky started off on fire, and has since dropped tremendously. Blum is hurt, and I have DeRosa to play some utility as well.

So again, the issue hasn't completely resolved itself, but if you want to shell out the dough for a J.J. Hardy type, he might be worth the investment for you.

At the moment I have Simmons in AAA planning for him to remain there unless he shows mass improvement. I really want Simmons to be my SS in the future.

The past three games I'v started Wilson and while his D has been excellent he is striking out way to much for me.

I'm thinking with the Braves young pitchers will be a great catalyst in a trade but I'm not sure if i should maybe go after a big name guy or just someone to fill the position until the end of the year. I'm currently 2 in the NL East and only 2 games behind the Marlins

I started with the stock rosters, so Simmons doesn't exist in my universe.

I start Wilson since he's rated higher. But he's hitting .204 for me. Pastornicky is hitting .237. I traded Brandon Hicks and Josh Wilson is in the minors.

The only shortstops on the trading block so far are Tulo, and the Rockies don't like ANY deal I've offered and Tolbert on the Cubs. I keep thinking about dumping Wilson and signing either Tejada or (probably) Renteria.

I would steer clear of Tejada. I signed him in one of my test franchises and I didn't play great with him at all. I don't think I ever broke the .200 average mark with him. Although, he does bring a little more power to the SS position, I just didn't see it as a realistic pickup.

I'm the Red Sox in my Franchise, during my first season I traded Iglesias to the Braves as part of a deal to get Jurrjens and I picked up David Ross as well.
The CPU was in the same position you were in.

As for shortstops I'm in my second year now and was able to pick up Jhonny Peralta as a stop gap guy. The last time I really played the Show a ton, I wound up with him as well. He's not a great defender, but if you can live with that he usually hits well.....at least that's the case for me. He could be the perfect type of guy to buy some time until one of those guys you mentioned is ready. He's probably not an "untouchable" asset to Detroit, so you may be able to snag him.

And if not a trade, I'd see if there were any other guys I had in the minors that were utility guys, or 2B who could play short and give them a look........Because really it wouldn't take a lot to surpass that kind of protection, a "D" guy could potentially do that.
A tip wit that I noticed - If you're calling a guy up, especially a lower rated guy, if you call them up when they're hot it helps out. They'll come up with a chance to outperform their standard rankings.

To the OP, you could trade Houston for Jed Lowrie. I'm assuming they are out of the race lol, and I believe he's in the last year of his deal maybe? But the thing with Jed is that he is so versatile, he can play every infield position if I remember correctly.

I have not had an issue. The way I bat while using Pastornicky has been pretty effective. .273 1HR 5RBI through 38 games. I have him batting in the 8th slot. Swinging at the first fastball pitch I see. His issue as in real life. He has 8 errors...

                  Re: Braves SS Issue

Haven't played my Braves franchise in a while, but when I get back to it (in 2012-13 offseason) I'm jacking Simmons stats up because it's pretty clear that he's going to be playing for a while. Not going to continue dominating the way he has, of course, (4 hr in the majors? I hope he doesn't get Jordan Schaefer-itis, or even Francoeur or Heyward: too many homers too early by a non-power hitter leading to lots of warning track flyouts once they learn they can't just blow it by you and start hitting the corners). Anyway, I think he's a B pot in my franchise, which is maybe low but not bad; but whatever ratings he has surely deserve a major boost, particularly to defense, and he proved with a batting title last year that he will be a good contact hitter. Heck, Fredi batted him second tonight, with Prado out of the lineup.

If you've franchising with the Braves, and have Simmons in your organization, the realistic move would be to make him just good enough to bump him over Pastornicky and Wilson and then let him sink or swim as he will in real life once his hot streak ends (ie, once the league figures out what his hole is). But hey, I played all of the 2012 season with Pastornicky (he hit about .275 for me) and used Wilson as a defensive replacement, and it worked out ok for me.

Simmons has played 5 games in AAA (2 controlled by me) he is 9 for 15 with 3 BB. Whey two games with him were great going 5 for 7 with 2BB and 1 HR.

MLB situation I saw Tulo on the block but not sure what kind of talent I would have to trade(probably way to much for my taste). Wilson still couldn't hit the broad side of a damn barn. I plan to check in on a trade for Lowrie tonight or tomorrow.

Lowrie's a good idea, as he's decent but wouldn't block ATon (trying a nickname for him.... don't know that that one works) for long, and could be a utility guy or 2b if he hits, or traded away for something. For Tulo you'd have to give up a lot, and pay him a lot at some point, thus maybe blocking Simmons. Well, everyone's choice, of course, and as I said I already played the whole 2012 season with Simmons in AA (and he did NOT light it up). So any use I get out of him would be in 2013 and forward, or a restart.

Pastornicky has taken the job from Wilson in my dynasty.

And Tulo is on the block, but I don't think the Rockies will actually trade him. I've offered every combination I could think of for him, with absolutely zero interest. They turned down Mac, Heyward and Kimbrel (not that I had any intention of actually doing that).
