Re: Community Day 2013 - Uniforms & Accessories - Questions/Concerns/Inquiries
this may have been asked in here but can we actually have jerseys that the teams use? It was annoying to see the white sox wear their 1910 jerseys when they haven't touched them in almost 10 years at leastComment

Indeed, which makes it all the more baffling. I mean, seriously, who is going to get into any trouble adding a stripe THAT IS THERE IN REAL LIFE?
Simple fact is many Twins fans are going to be very disappointed if that stripe, and pray to god that MN sign in left, is missing. At this point if your style guide is THAT WRONG you are doing more harm than good keeping it looking like that. No Twins agency is going to be like HEY! thanks for making our uniforms look right! You didn't obey the style guide. We will now sue you!
I mean, if they aren't updating the guide at this point they obviously don't give two ****s about it.Comment

Teams do care how their image is, and Baseball certainly cares about the way that the league is shown. It's their image to protect and they have an obligation to protect it in all the products that are produced in merchandising. This has to deal with copyright issues as well as counterfeit issues.
The sign in left field has nothing to do with the style guide. It has everything to do with trademark infringement. There is a rule of thumb regarding how close the fake ads can be to the real life thing, but if Budweiser feels like their brand is being used without their consent they will go after SCEA. That's just basic copyright theory.
I know it's hard for many to believe that the style guide is for the protection of Baseball's image, but it's the truth. They produce these things in order to show how a team is to be represented. Granted, I have no idea what Minnesota has on their guide, but if the stripe ain't there then SCEA isn't going to risk a major contract with Baseball. Simple as that.Rangers - Cowboys - Aggies - Stars - Mavericks

The problem is that they are legally bound to follow the rules when it comes to reproducing the image that Major League Baseball and the thirty teams that consist of Baseball. This isn't some wishy-washy thing, they are bound by their contract to follow the guidelines set by Baseball.

What is baffling though is that there are so many mistakes in the style guide. What is the point in it when it is so inaccurate?
MLB should be hammering teams that do not update it in time. If they are found to wear anything that is incorrect then they should fine the teams involved.Comment

Re: Community Day 2013 - Uniforms & Accessories - Questions/Concerns/Inquiries
Hello SECA and everyone
I would love to see the following 3 options:
#1. The option to have low stirrups
#2. The option to NOT have a batting helmet, for recreating rosters prior to 1956
#3. The option for older catchers equipment...OR at least the option for a brown colors in the menu options.
Thanks!!Comment

What you are saying is obviously true and its not hard to believe.

Re: Community Day 2013 - Uniforms & Accessories - Questions/Concerns/Inquiries
So let me get this straight. Teams can have whatever they want in the style guide which is protected. But in real life they can wear whatever they want and don't need to adhere to the guide?
If for example Team A have a black stripe down there pants in the style guide but actually in real life have pants without the stripe then MLB should enforce them to wear those striped pants.
Just curious do other sports have a style guide? You know how the NFL is with players wearing low socks or any other irregularities. MLB should step up and do the same.Comment

Yeas but MLB should still hammer teams for irregularities.

It has nothing to do with what teams can or cant wear on the field. The teams own the rights to everything they wear and use.Comment

The teams are not bound by the style guide. They can wear whatever they want. The style guide is for the media outlets. The style guide ensures that third-parties represent each team with its official logos and word marks in the media that they produce.

Are you saying that majestic has to follow the style guide for making replica jerseys?Comment
