Utley not in the top five? Makes no sense at all.

This isn't 2009, Utley can't stay on the field, he hasn't been top since then.

Newbie here but I'm assuming a 99 ovr rated player has to be rated 99 in each of the different attributes associated with his position??

If this is the case, then I can't agree with having this many or even any 99 rated players.

So yes, I will be editing the player ratings myself!!

Potential didn't change in MLB 12, glad to hear it is fluid in 13! Care to expand on how/why it would change?
Is it random?
Is it performance-based?
Is it dependent on good training?

How so? He's been plagued with injuries the last two seasons, the game isn't going to go off of ratings of guys from 3 years ago. If so, Justin Morneau would be in like the top 5 1B, very iffy though.

If you take Utley's 2012 and stretch it to a full season he's a 6.5 WAR player. That's with a BABIP of .261 even though his LD% was 20. The only thing that should be low is his durability and even that could easily rebound giving the fact that he's finally gotten proper treatment for his left knee.

Certain attributes weigh in on a position more then others. It's not an average ratings of all the different attributes. It's then scaled on to the 1-99 overall ratings. No clue the algorithm on how it's scaled, it's secret as stated earlier in the thread.

It still doesn't matter, you can't give an exact estimate on his season when he doesn't play almost half of the games. You can stretch out a stat like that for the whole season, but that doesn't mean that's an official stat. If he plays 150 games and plays like 2009, he's no doubt top 5. But this ain't 2009

My point is that Utley durability should start low but all other stats should be among the best in the game he's still a top 3 fielder and the second best offense bat, not to mention base-running where is among the best in all of baseball.

I can't see how Carlos Gonzalez is rated 99. Braun linked to performance enhancing drugs shouldn't be a 99. Tulo doesn't play enough games and not sure he should be a 99. Cano is a questionable 99.

Horrible ratings, just horrible. Great to have numbers, but cmon the only guy who should be sporting the 99ovr as a hitter should be Cabrera, Baseball doesn't have that many great players.

I agree. So many "WHY ISNT ____ _______ A 99?!?!?". These people are also VERY biased towards their own teams players as well.
