Re: Is Steve Lyons the Answer?
I cant say he's the answer. I like watching him doing the FOX MLB pregame a few years back. He will fresh at the start. All video game commentary becomes repetitive after a month. But I am all in. Let us just see what he brings to game.Comment

Re: Is Steve Lyons the Answer?
I think Vasgersian, while not bad, needs to be replaced or 'demoted' to a studio or pre/post-game position or something.
Hopefully, on next gen. their can be as many announcers as umpires so that there can be different 'teams' of commentary.Comment

Re: Is Steve Lyons the Answer?
I'm probably the minority here, but to me commentary is a little overrated. Sure, it's icing on the cake, but not the main course.
The NHL and NBA2k series have great commentary on the surface, but play a lot of games and it repeats the same things over and over anyway. It just sounds more refreshing in the delivery I guess, but you're going to get a bit of staleness regardless.
I end up tuning it out anyway. The gameplay is what keeps me coming back.
I want to be somewhat interested in what the announcers talk about and not have moments of complete silence. Occasionally is okay but MLB 12 had too many and for too long.Comment

Re: Is Steve Lyons the Answer?
The problem isn't with who they really have in the booth. I like Karros, Vasgersian, and the addition of Lyons (loved him in All Star Baseball back inna PS2 days). The problem is in the way in which the commentary in this game flows. It just doesn't seem quite natural at al like 3 guys sitting at a table talking to and with each other.
I did notice how MLB 12 seemed to improve this a little bith, having Vasgersian ask oneof the other guys for his input/view, so that was a good start. I don't think it's a memory thing because the other game does it quite well.
Not a deal breaker for me, but I agree Vasgersian does sound monotone and robotic. I hear John Kruk talk on the other game and it's like he is right there in the game. Just so natural sounding.Comment

Re: Is Steve Lyons the Answer?
I'm fine with Matt V. He does a good job.
I think the postseason mode will help with the enthusiasm this year.
During regular season, it would be nice if the announcers talked about how the season was progressing more than just the game at hand.
I will be interested to see what changes were made.Comment

Re: Is Steve Lyons the Answer?
I think a lot of folks here have touched on the issue. You can count me as one of those guys who doesn't really pay that much attention to the commentary after the first few weeks, or month, into playing it. Someone said it in an earlier post, but I'll reiterate it. We're never going to have an endless and dynamic commentary. If you're a die-hard fan, like myself and a lot of others here are, then you're going to play this game so much that the commentary is bound to start repeating at some point. I mean, that's just how it is.
Personally, I don't mind Matt V as the lead man at all. Like others here have started, I do think the excitement and energy he brings to the booth in real life would certainly make the commentary in The Show much fresher. MLB 12 had a few too many "dead silent" spots that I didn't like, but I think they have addressed those issues in this year's game (or at least I hope they have anyway).
It'll be interesting to hear what Steve Lyons will bring to the table. But, in the grand scheme of things, the commentary isn't going to make or break this game for me. A lot more new, and updated, things in this year's game that I'm already excited about. March 5th can't get here quick enough.Comment

Re: Is Steve Lyons the Answer?
I think I agree with what some others have said, in that the commentary doesn't always "flow" in The Show. I do love Matt V., he's a fun personality and great on MLB Network, but he's a bit muted on here.
While we all know how bad 2K is, what they do have right is commentary, especially Gary Thorne. I'll admit my bias in that Thorne is also the everyday Orioles announcer, so I hear him most of the year. Personally, I would love to have him switch over to The Show, but I'm quite sure it will never happen.Comment

Re: Is Steve Lyons the Answer?
Ive always said, its not so much what the commentators say in this game, its how they say it.
Way too canned, not natural or flowing enough, but im sure its something SCEA will work on in the PS4 versions to come.
As for Joe Buck - honestly, id rather sit there in total silence than listen to that self important weak knowledged man utter one single word on this otherwise wonderful game.Comment

Re: Is Steve Lyons the Answer?
They should get Sean McDonough, he was great when he did commentary for the red sox and I think he even did commentary for triple play or some baseball one year back in the dayComment

Re: Is Steve Lyons the Answer?
The commentary isn't terrible, it's just constantly the same pattern:
"Describe count/batter"
"Describe outcome"
"Describe pitch"
Repeat ad naseum
P.S. Am I the only one who likes Joe Buck?Last edited by UK0wnag3; 02-21-2013, 08:07 PM.Comment

Re: Is Steve Lyons the Answer?
The problem with The Shows commentary is that there are pretty much NO flow and conversations.. They don't ever talk to each other... And hardly react to what each other say. None of them have any life.. Hit a walk off homerun.. Matt sounds hardly interested. It's not the guys.. It's the uninteresting tone in their voices and lack of knowledge and interesting stuff that they talk about in the booth.Harvey's BetterComment
