I've been saying it for years, Matty V, Harold Reynolds, and Al Leiter.

Throw in some MLB Network Integration/Presentation and perfecto!

Re: Is Steve Lyons the Answer?

I've never heard Steve Lyons, so I am looking forward to that.

I do think the wrong guy was replaced, however. I didn't have a problem with Dave Campbell, it's Eric Karros who I don't like. His voice was always hard to hear for me, and he never said anything interesting. I have him muted all the time now. I've read that Lyons sounds a lot like him so that does not exactly bode well for me. As for Matt V, I've never had a problem with him and actually like him.

I really wish for the future they'd consider using other's and release them as DLC content. That way we'd have a few choices...

Re: Is Steve Lyons the Answer?

The problem with the commentary has never been the person doing the commentary, it's the scripts that are awful. The way they commentate and what they comment on is pretty much nothing like a real life MLB game, or at least nothing like the games that I have heard here in SoCal. This is something I need to get off my chest because I FEEL it while plaything this series but it's so subtle that I don't think people really see the issue.

Very rarely do the commentators actually & openly question the umpires, but they do it in this game all the time. This is especially apparent in how they comment on pitching and hitting. It's like a ball is on the edge of the plate, the ump calls it a ball and they start questioning the umpires vision. I'm sorry but when do real commentators ever do that in real life? If you heard Vasgersian say "I think old blue might need an eye exam" in real life it would come seem very unprofessional and insulting to the umpire.

It brings to light the thought that the commentating in this series is almost child like, "video game-ish". It has improved slightly, but not much.

Commentators do actually question umpires, quite a bit at times. Bob Brenly was always very critical and constantly mentioned how replay should be expanded. Other commentators also question umpires all the time.

The commentary is very robotic.. It's a video game.. I know that.. But commentary is an interaction between the men in the booth. There aren't really interactions in the booth in the game. Matt sounds dead and the other two men don't sound like they're at the same game, combine that with corny boring lines you don't hear in real life, like you said the questioning of calls and "funny" ( they're not funny) but lame lines.

In the game it happens on almost every close call. In real life that is not the case.

I think the problem is in the game a bad call is anything that is not mathematically by the rulebook a strike. But the range of bad calls in the game is so small. If the game actually called really bad strikes once it a while maybe then the commentators could comment.

Really? Vasgersian did play by play for about 14 years or so before joining the MLB Network.

The answer is changing the style of how the commentary is presented. You can put in voice actors in those spots and it could feel like it was legit. Just look at the NFL 2k series of Terry McGovern as "Dan Stevens" and Jay Styne as "Peter O' Keefe". Those two sounded just as good as some of the well known commentators on Sunday afternoon. Also, something you have to remember even though some of these real commentators sound good on TV, they are actually not very good when it comes to video game commentating. Some of these people that have been mentioned have not made the cut as far as a try out. Overall these guys will only be as good as their scripts they are given when linked to presentation style.

2k does an amazing job in all of their games.

I like Matt Vasectomy. He's really funny on MLBN. Maybe get somebody else from there like Harold Reynolds or Dan Plesac or Mitch Williams? Eric Karros SUCKS HARD. Soup was alright, although he rarely talked. I wish Vasectomy showed more enthusiasm in the game, because in real life he is awesome to listen to.

I've always felt that it isn't the commentator that ruin the commentary its the type of commentary. While its cool that these guys can tell stories etc, I feel that a lot of generic commentary pertinent to the current events in my game would make it feel better.

The quality of the commentary in the Show is some of the best however the type of commentary I feel still goes to All-Star Baseball 2005. If any of you have a copy go back and play it sim a few years, put some guys on a the trade block, sign a free agent, trade a player or two then play a game and listen to the commentary. They'll actually mention that stuff. If a guy is on a cold streak they'll talk about it, if he's climbing up the team or league's record books they'll talk about it. If he won an award last year, they'll make mention of it (Up next, the 2015 MVP, instead of being 2020 and they say "this guy won the MVP in 2012").

That's always my thoughts on commentary. It would be my "perfect world."

Re: Is Steve Lyons the Answer?

Vasgersian,Reynolds and Leiter would be perfect as it would be a good commentator,an experienced batter & fielder who would have good insight to what is happening at the plate and in the field and an experienced pitcher who would explain in depth about pitching strategies and situations along with them revealing each players strength and weakness' at their respective positions

If I started a game in The Show and Vasgersian wasn't the voice leading me into the game I would think I'm not playing The Show because I believe he's the voice of the franchise and to bring in someone everyone knows and hears on commentary for mostly all the FOX games would be a mistake as Buck is good, but he's not the best and he wouldn't be a good fit for The Show

Karros should have been replaced cause I didn't like him too much from the beginning even though he was a small step up from Hudler he still didn't fill the spot well and truthfully when I heard Lyons was joining and before reading where he would be on the team,I thought he was Karros' replacement just to find out shortly after that he replaced Campbell instead which is still good as I wasn't a big fan of his either, but Karros should have left with him

Putting more of an MLB Network presence in The Show is a great idea just as long as Ken Rosenthal isn't apart of it because the personalities they put into the game are important as you want the best broadcast experience possible
