Downloaded version. First the good:
- I don't know if this is a product of the download or not, but the menus fly in this game. I've never seen simming this fast in the Show. So that's nice!
- The game looks "crisper," and I'm not sure why. The colors seem deeper or something.
- Hit physics actually do seem improved. I had a nice gapper and a couple non-scorching base hits in the first few innings. This might be the first time I don't have to zero out "solid hits."
- I'm destroying the ball on default All-Star. I'm keeping this in the "good" ledger for now, as I'm facing a crappy pitcher.
And the bad:
- The pitch stutter is definitely a thing. I'm pretty sure there are two types of "stutters": one really minor stutter that's barely noticeable, but still there. It's like a single missing frame in an otherwise smooth picture, if that makes sense. This can be played through. But then there's the big, can't-miss-it stutter, which I saw twice in my first inning at the plate. It's bad. I don't want to go overboard yet, but it was driving me nuts, and interfering with my game.
- 3rd inning, I absolutely drilled the pitcher in the face with a comebacker. Don't worry though, he's okay.
- In addition to the pitch stutter, there is a little jumpiness in the picture throughout. While the game may look nicer, it's definitely not smoother. This is especially noticeable when they show a batter at the beginning of his AB.
- While ball physics are better, balls down the line still don't get into the corner.
- Sorry, Orioles fans: Dylan Bundy's name audio isn't in the game? Odd.
I've been early on pretty much everything and pulled balls actually get hit with more power and velocity. I hit a line drive home run with Morse (it was a rocket) at Jacobs field and it was awesome. It got out of the park in a hurry!
From hitting to fielding, the game somehow continues to get better every year. I have yet to see the stuttering issue in the few games I've played. Maybe I'm lucky or just am having to much fun to even notice.

Re: MLB 13 The Show Impressions Thread
Hearing all the stuttering, skipping and sound issues has me worried.
With so many different PS3 sku's out there, it's hard to find out if it's a particular type of console that's having issues over others.
Hopefully SCEA can address this. I want to pick this game up, but I'm worried it's going to break my PS3.Comment

Re: MLB 13 The Show Impressions Thread
Early impression but I like how walks seem to be obtainable this year. I've already drawn 3 in 2 innings, albeit against Jason Marquis. At one point he threw 6 consecutive balls which was nice to see and something you would never see in previous games.Last edited by gator3guy; 03-05-2013, 09:21 AM.Comment

Re: MLB 13 The Show Impressions Thread
Just got done checking the game out!
Have to say after watching all the early gameplay videos from those who got there early copies had me a little disappointed.
It looked like the same game as last year.. All i can say is you have to play it to feel the difference. The fielding animations and the game itself is soooo much smoother and just feels right.
To be honest it doesn't even feel like the show to me. Hard to explain but it just feels like a fresh experience .
Loving the new throw meter and how the plays at first look just right in regards to how the close the runner is to being safe or out.. Absolutely perfect!
Thanks dev team! Gona be a great year,, SOXFAN try the 5 gig install , load times are still quick i have seen zero problemsComment

Re: MLB 13 The Show Impressions Thread
You can tell right away that the hitting is different than in years past as the ball goes where you swing the bat. One thing I do not like is in RttS is the fact that the commentators often are quite during important plays. For instance, my RttS guy hit a walkoff homerun and all you hear is silence and that was it. The presentation of the walkoff was good tho.est 1978

Re: MLB 13 The Show Impressions Thread
I love the game so far, albeit in limited playing time. Only gripe I have is, as has been mentioned above, the choppiness/lag/stuttering when a batter is approaching the plate. I refuse to call it gamebreaking, because it doesn't affect overall gameplay, but I do hope that SCEA fixes this quickly because it is very annoying.
Classic pitching on legend, I've been able to get more strikeouts than before. AI seems to take more and swing and miss more...which is good.
Pitch speed is definitely slowed down compared to years' past, but that's easily fixed with the slider. I was expecting to have to crank it all the way up to 10 (normally, I wouldn't touch it), but moving it up to 6 made a huge difference.
I'm very pleased with the game overall.Comment

Re: MLB 13 The Show Impressions Thread
Include me in the group with stuttering and lag issues. I downloaded the game from the psn store last night and played a couple innings this morning.
Brand new PS3 and I'm having issues with the pitch stutter and hiccups during cut scenes.
Just in 2 innings of play it was evident. I hope it does get patched as I think it will become tiresome and annoying the more I playComment

Re: MLB 13 The Show Impressions Thread
Biggest issues thus far are pitch stutter/hesitation. Lag and hiccups throughout cut scenes and commentary cutoff.
Menu navigation seems to be fine, its just during gameplay I'm noticing the stuttering and lag.Comment

Re: MLB 13 The Show Impressions Thread
Can't get over how differently the game plays from hitter camera to hitting camera... A HUGE plus in helping us find our skill level.
Switching between "classic catcher" to "classic catcher 2" is like dropping a skill level... COMPLETELY different game ;-)

Re: MLB 13 The Show Impressions Thread
I know you guys might not care as much as I do, but I have to say it:
The work the SCEA guys put on batting stances is ridiculous. They look amazing. The home run celebrations (which are HUGE to me) are so accurate. There seem to be a lot more this year and look awesome. My three new favorites are Tulo, McCutchen, and Hanley. I'm giving my created player either McCutchen or Hanley. Stances and full animation packages are beautiful. And the fact that they can all be seen fully animated without having to go into a game shows me that they've been listening to us. There are truly some amazing developers making this game.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it
