Firmware 4.40 just dropped on PSN, and I'm recalling Ramone saying it (the stutter) wasn't an issue with the game. Perhaps it was with the system software? Just a thought - going to play a few games without my little "placebo" fix (which to me is anything but at this point), to see if I get any stuttering with the new firmware. Worth a look, at least.

Well, one game told me that the firmware doesn't completely kill the stutter - got three of the half-second pauses and a bunch of the really short ones. Does it help/hurt? I can't say - it was and is so inconsistent that it's impossible to really judge this soon, or even over the course of several games.

Feel free to try it (plus you won't really have a choice if you go online on PSN, it's a mandatory update), but don't expect miracles.

I can confirm, that the firmware update does not help the stutter issue. By the way, for me, it seems to be always the first pitch of an at bat...

sucks i tell you... i haven't played my show at all since my last posting, that was about 2 weeks now...boy i tell ya gaming devs, just cant seem to get past that....i wanna be a millionaire factor...that's why our games, we pay our hard earned money for, have to be put on a back burner to be fixed ( if they fix it )... inno... cant take it back to store, once you open the game you get half or less money back, go back to to last years version, which wasn't bad, but you know deep down 13 has good mechanics, if not better than the previous years, or do what i been doing, playing other games that actually ( do work ) and trying to live life patiently...

I finally saw the stutter but only once.

Wish I could figure out why I don't see it and others do. There is no doubt when it happens that it is what everyone is talking about. Just strange some see it and some don't.

A few variables?.... my system....

Newish PS3
Connected to the internet with a hardline
ROCK SOLID internet speed (My internet service)
I have over 150gig of space still open.
I do have added music in the game but NOT a huge number of songs on my system
I do not surf the web on my system
I do not rent movies on it
Wireless controller
LG 47 inch LCD TV - HDMI hookup

I definitely noticed it MUCH more when I didn't have my controller plugged directly into the PS3.

I play MLB The Show 9-13 and 9 and 10 as well as 12 play flawlessly and smoothly 100% of the time. I see an occasional stutter on batted balls and when I pitch on my Meter playing 11. Neither of these is really that bad nothing at all like the current edition. I wonder what they have put into the game starting with 11 that is causing this. I never played any of these games when they came out and only played them post patches save 13. I know they added the XP point system but since the problems started before they incorporated this that probably isn't it.

I was so annoyed when I first started playing today I started looking at reviews of older The Show's to see which one was the best. Then I batted for just over 5 games and only saw it once. In my 6th game it happened on two consecutive pitches, so I figured that was a good time to take a break.

I imagine this is something they will patch, alongside the poorly done sim engine.

I upgraded to an SSD drive today (from a 500gig 5200 rpm drive I installed) and so far I haven't had any freezing or stuttering (in three rtts games and one exhibition game). As I mentioned above, I was seeing the stuttering almost every other pitch before.

Obviously installing a SSD isn't exactly a fix, I just wanted to share my experience. But maybe this is what they meant when they said the issue wasn't "software" related?

If I had to guess (and it's just a wild guess) is it possible the stuttering occurs from the game caching replays/screenscaps during play? Maybe the standard drives are getting pushed too hard and can't keep up? It almost reminds of the stutter you get when hitting the screenshot hotkey during a PC game.

I upgraded my stock PS3 160GB hdd with a 180GB SSD and played over 50 games with no stutter, game was very smooth. As an experiment, I put back the stock PS3 hdd and downloaded the complete game. While I didn't see any stutter when batting, there were quite a number of stutters during cut scenes. Now that was just one game, but it does show me playing on an SSD appears to be better. The other difference is first time I downloaded I selected all and it ran pretty much automatically. This time, stock PS3 hdd, I had to select each download independently. I am inclined to believe the SSD could make a difference in how the game runs off the digital version, but there have been others with mechanical hdd that haven't had the stutter issue, though I'm not sure they also included cut scenes.

I keep checking this thread and it really doesn't offer much insight. I don't blame any of you guys, but I feel like the Devs or moderators should have set up some sort of format for us to use so we can narrow it down more. Going through and reading this thread isn't very helpful at all.

Haven't they (the devs) already said they found the problem? I really don't see what the problem is. They are adding in as much as they can (other bug fixes). They usually put out two per season. I would think that we (the gamers) would want as much fixed as possible instead of a quick fix for this isolated issue and then have no more patches.

Have a little patience.

As a developer in a different genre I don't have a problem w/ how this is going. They already reached out and said the issue will be resolved.
