OS Arbitration Panel Thread 2013 Edition

From pistolpete, unto Pokerplaya, unto me.

Welcome, everyone, to the 2013 Arb panel thread! This thread was a rousing success last time around, although got side tracked at one point. But let's not get into that lol.

The point of this thread is to bring another element into trading in MLB 13: The Show. The negotiation element. Now, rather than just discussing trades in the trade thread (which serves its own outstanding purpose), you can actually negotiate trades with the 'reps' of another team, as if you were an actual GM, negotiating with another actual GM. As we know, the CPU trade logic can be... let's go with, 'faulty.' The human element can really prevent some of the worse parts of the AI.

One thing that wasn't made very clear last year was that EACH TEAM MAY HAVE AS MANY REPRESENTATIVES AS POSSIBLE. THERE IS NO LIMIT. So just sign up with whatever team you choose, but be advised: YOU MAY ONLY CHOOSE ONE TEAM. This created some confusion last year as well...

    Here are some quick guidelines:

1.) Most obviously, the TOS must be followed at all times.

2.) Please use THIS template when making an offer to another rep:

    TO: (Organization Name) Representatives!
    FROM: (Organization Name) Player!

RE: Negotiations involving (Player) or (Players)

*In the body of the message, put your offer, and give the stats necessary, while explaining why you think the trade shall go through.*

3.) Please make an offer. Don't 'inquire about the availability' of a player, make your offer. No "how much for _______ kthxbye"

4.) Provide all vital stats, and any stats of the players that may be asked for. Team record, ERA, BA, OBP, etc..

5.) This is just a video game. If you disagree, please, do it respectfully.

6.) There is to be NO third-party-commentary on any trades from anyone.

7.) Please, while this is incredibly subjective, no Brett Cecil for Mike Trout trades. Don't try to rip off your fellow OSers; Try to be somewhat realistic and as fair as possible.

8.) The rosters and statistics used during negotiations will be that of the poster who began the discussions.

9.) If a team has at least two representatives, and gets an offer proposed to it, the representative that responds first will handle the negotiations.

          I'll get us started.

          TO: Kansas City Royals.
          FROM: Toronto Blue Jays.
          SUBJECT: Eric Hosmer

          Man, I've missed these offers.

Hey there, we were interested in your player Eric Hosmer. As it is still the offseason, we lack any statistical information to give you.

We are prepared to offer you Matt Dean, a power-hitting third baseman with very good athletic tools, Emilio Bonifacio, a versatile speedy player, John Stilson, a hard-throwing SP, and Deck McGuire, a former first rounder who can eat up some nice innings. We feel that this move gives you depth in important positions while allowing Billy Butler to increase his value by playing in the field every day, and removing depth from a not-so-important position. We recognize Hosmer's potential, but also recognize he performed well below average last season. Which makes it all the funnier that he's still an upgrade on Adam Lind.

We will also take back Luke Hochevar or Jeff Francouer's contract in a potential deal, if necessary.

          Thank you for your time.

                      FROM: Kansas City Royals
                      SUBJECT: Eric Hosmer

We greatly appreciate your genuine interest in Eric Hosmer as he is a young and talented first baseman.

However, after one poor season, we can't just cut ties with him. Hosmer was ranked the number 8 prospect in baseball by Baseball America in 2011 and was a third overall pick. As you stated, Hosmer has an incredibly high ceiling and is seen as a franchise cornerstone here in KC.

We recognized that he had a poor showing last season. However, after watching some video, it's apparent that Hosmer's problems can be fixed by adjusting his mental approach and by adjusting his pre-pitch stance.

Being very blunt, we'll do ANYTHING to part with either Hochevar or Francoeur. At this point though, I can't really see us parting with Hosmer's potential just to rid ourselves of Hoch and Frenchy's contracts.

I'll definitely keep you updated if anything changes as we are interested in several of your minor leaguers including Aaron Sanchez, Marcus Stroman and especially Anthony Alford and Jacob Anderson.

If Hosmer is not performing well by deadline time, then we will definitely be shopping him to get some sort of value back before it all goes sour.

I've heard that sound 3 times... once was Babe Ruth, the second was Josh Gibson, and the third was Bo Jackson- Buck O'Neil

                        Seeing how interested you are in getting rid of Hoch and Frenchy, we'll take both of them. How about something like this;

                        Emilio Bonifacio

                        John Stilson

Your really starting to intrigue us with the players you are offering and your making it really hard on us to make a decision. Your giving us an immediate upgrade with Emilio Bonifacio and 3 solid minor league prospects.

Alford would make an unbelievable outfield trio with Bubba and Elier Hernandez. We would also have a solid pitching prospect who's plus fastball is something that we don't have a lot of and finally we could have a solid third baseman who appears to be the second coming of Mike Moustakas.

While yes, that package is impressive, I think I speak for all the entire Royals Nation when I say that there would be riots and protests if we traded Hosmer and didn't get a high ceiling arm in return.

We like the current package but in order to move the negotiations to the next stage, we're going to have to get one of your better starting pitching prospects (Sanchez, Stroman, Osuna or Smoral).

It's unfortunate to hear that, as we are not willing to plug our farm system to that sort of extent. Would you be willing to rethink the inclusion of one of those "big 4," as we like to think them, if we were to focus on Billy Butler instead of Eric Hosmer? Butler is coming off a very good season, but he's older, and may not have the ceiling of Hosmer.

Just spitballing here, to be honest. We'd much rather not include one of our premium pitchers.

Do you have any interest in our pitcher Mark Buehrle?
