    Re: 2013 Franchise/Season Progress Thread

Well I finally started my Franchise with the Royals and had a tough loss on opening day. It was such a good game. Jumped out early in the 2nd with a solo HR by Salvador Perez, but after that, Chris Sale shut me down.

James Shields pitched so well, went the entire 8 innings but gave up a 2 out RBI single to Jeff Keppinger in the 8th to allow Chicago to pull ahead. Then Addison Reed came in and closed the door.

      Re: 2013 Franchise/Season Progress Thread

The Yankees just completed a huge 3 game sweep of the Orioles. Robinson Cano is on an absolute tear.

The Yankees got word today that captain Derek Jeter suffered a major set back in his return from a broken ankle and will be out till the All-Star break best case scenario.

The Yankees begin a 3 game set vs Arizona before hitting the road to face the Toronto Blue Jays.

        Final Comments on the Season
This season was a great step for the Royals. We won the franchise’s first AL Central Division title and made the playoffs for the first time since 1985. Franchise cornerstones 3B Mike Moustakas and 1B Eric Hosmer turned in great seasons and made progress as two of the best young players in the MLB. The playoffs were a disappointment with a short series against the Rays. The pitching staff that had been so dominant all year got shelled for 22 runs in the series, while our lineup only managed 2 runs in 3 games. Despite the playoffs, Royals fans can be excited for the 2015 season. The only important players that need to be signed are SP Wade Davis, SP Wei Yin Chen, and SS Dee Gordon. That will leave enough cap room to sign a quality bat to hopefully improve a team that barely batted .250. With a few minor tweaks the Royals should be able to build upon the success of this year.

Kansas City Royals - 2014 - July Update

          Record - 58 - 44
1st place AL central (8.5 game lead)

July was a very good month. No one decided to hurt themselves this month. We added 3.5 games to our lead. At one point we were up to 11.5 ahead of Detroit. But the end of the month saw us go into a 4 game slide.

Mike Moustakas came back for the 1st game after the all star break. He is hitting .393 in 6 games. James Shields has his ERA under 4 finally. Alex Gordon is having a career year. Hitting .320 with 20 HR, and 75 RBI so far.

I dont see us falling out of 1st. And expect to make the playoffs at this point. But we are the royals. And we like to surprise people.

            Kansas City Royals - 2013

            Record - 77 - 53
1st place AL central (9.5 game lead)

August down. 32 games to go. We are so close to making the playoffs. We currently have the 2nd best record in the majors behind LAA (82).

Lorenzo Cain strained an MCL. But he is just a few days away from coming back. Alex Gordon just keeps getting better. Now at .325 with 27 HR and 93 RBI. Moose and Hoz both still over .300.

Will update when the regular season is over.

My nats franchise has taken an unfortunate turn

I'm sitting great at 15-4 (5 games up on the mets) but Zimmerman is our for another 2-3 weeks and Bryce Harper just fractured his forearm sliding into second base in my last game. I'm not sure where my offense is going to come from now, but i will be heading over to the arbitration panel and trying to make a trade for a Bryce replacement. UGH

You could look at Gardner. I'm one of the Yankees reps and I need some action. Lol

The season is over. And baseball is a better sport now that the Royals are back in the Playoffs. Most wins since 1980. And 2nd most in Royals history.

We had a great year both hitting and pitching. Alex Gordon was the MVP of our team. Hit .320, 34 HR, 112 RBI. Shane Bradford was our best pitcher going 16-6 with a 3.26 ERA.

                  EDIT

Was going to wait till after the post season was over. But, after our 1st game i had to post the results. Shave Bradford vs C.C. Sabathia.

Sabathia was pulled after 2. after giving up 7 runs. Bradford took a no ho hitter into the 6th. Gave up a single to Ben Francisco. Proceeded to go 9 innings . Giving up 2 hits. Walking 1. Hitting 1. And striking out 6. Throwing only 87 pitches. Best pitching game i have had in a long time. As well as hitting. Only got 1 more run after C.C. was pulled but it didnt matter any way.

                      Re: 2013 Franchise/Season Progress Thread

Lost a tough one to the A's today. I was losing 1-0 in the 4th until Colon left a hanging slider that stayed up in the zone to Napoli. I wish I saved the replay because I demolished that pitch. I hit it to dead center, over the back wall in CF, something never done in Fenway.

I took a 3-2 lead in the 9th. Bailey pitching and I gave up back to back HRs to ex-Red Sox players Brandon Moss and Josh Reddick. That was Moss' 3rd HR of the game mind you. Ended up losing 4-3.

Off topic, Moss should not have a rating of 90 for power against righties. Dude had 21 HRs last year.

Ok, while May turned out to be a pretty abysmal month for my Nats, early June is looking up. We're two games over .500 and 5GB coming off a three game sweet of the Mets that were just abused. Getting ready for the Twins to come to town. Bautista continues to be a beast leading the league with 22 HR.

Finally decided to start my Franchise for 2013. Wanted to try an NL team this year, so I am going to roll with the Pirates. I've never used them in a franchise, and I think they are playoff capable, but still a very good challenge.

Signed Tim Dillard, David Pauley and Juan Cruz to contracts in an attempt to add some bullpen depth.

                                Re: 2013 Franchise/Season Progress Thread

So, I started my franchise with the worst team in baseball (Houston Astros). My first order of business was to bring in some talent to cover my weaker positions during Spring Training.

                                Goals
                                1. Bring in a Center Fielder
                                2. Bring in a Ace Pitcher
                                3. Beef the middle of the lineup

Based off those three goals, I decided my best option for a ace pitcher would be in the free agency since the 'Stros don't have that good of a pitching unit to begin with. I acquired a veteran and long time Astro Roy Oswalt for $4.0M over the next 4 years.

                                Goals:
                                1. Bring in a Center Fielder
                                2. Bring in a Ace (completed)
                                3. Beef the middle of the lineup

Next decision was who to bring in at center field. I decided my best option would probably to bring in a young player who will be able to play for the 'Stros for a long period of time, assuming we will be able to afford him when contract time comes around. After searching through the possibly candidates, I decided to do a 6 man trade (3 from each team) with the Cardinals.

                                Trade:
                                In
                                CF Oscar Taveras
                                2B Kolten Wong
                                CP Jordan Swagerty

                                Out
                                CF Justin Maxwell
                                2B Jose Altuve
                                CP Jose Veras

                                Goals:
                                1. Bring in Center Fielder (complete)
                                2. Bring in a Ace (complete)
                                3. Beef middle of lineup

Now I know what your thinking, "OH NO! You traded Jose Altuve?!" but bear with me for a second. After a few games, I get a mail telling me the Cardinals are trying to pass Jose Altuve on waivers to their Triple A club. So, I go put a claim on Altuve in hopes that nobody else will. After three days, my claim is the only one put on Altuve and he comes back to Houston (told you to bear with me lol). After that, I decide to make two more trades. Both involving my two left fielders to help bring in slightly younger and slightly faster players. After searching around I decided to trade for Michael Brantley from the Indians and Nick Castellanos from the Tigers.

                                Trade:

                                In
                                LF Michael Brantley

                                Out
                                LF J.D. Martinez

                                In
                                LF Nick Castellanos

                                Out
                                LF Chris V. Carter

Now I decide to dip back into the free agency to grab one closer to help boost the bullpen a little and to grab one guy to help boost the middle of the order a little. I grab CP Brian Wilson and 3B Scott Rolen, Wilson gets 2.1M for the next 5 years and Rolen gets 1.1M for the next 4 years.

                                Goals:
                                1. Bring in a Center Fielder (complete)
                                2. Bring in a Ace (complete)
                                3. Beef middle of the lineup (complete)

Now, if you remember back when I traded with the Cardinals and they made the bad decision of trying to pass Altuve on waivers during the first week of spring training. I now have 2 second baseman and only one can start, there's a slight altercation. I could just leave Wong down in Triple A but why would I have traded for him? I decided that since SS Ronny Cedeno is getting old and starting to lose his range, I would instead move Wong over to SS and let him take over the new starter job there. Also, since I have two young left fielders and Rick Ankiel is starting to decline as well and lose his range out in right. I move Nick Castellanos over there to let him take over that job in right field. Now opening day is upon me and this is what my lineup, rotation, and bullpen look like.
