    Re: 2013 Franchise/Season Progress Thread

After starting and restarting several times, I finally gave up a few months back. The game was great, but I was just burned out I guess after playing all 162 games on MLB 12. I even thought about trading MLB 13 in at one point, but fortunately I held on to it.

Last night I popped it back in, and fell in love all over again. I'm ticked at myself now for not playing this all summer. Anyway, B.J. of all people homered twice and drove in all four runs to lead the Braves to a 4-2 win over the Phillies on Opening Day. Let's see if I can knock out all 162 before March.

Don't beat yourself up over it. You and I both played the heck out of MLB 12 and as we've discussed, probably needed some time away from 13 just to appreciate how good this series is.

I'm still slowly plugging along in my Blue Jays franchise, currently sitting 14-2.

Hey guys, I'm sorta burned out on my Indians franchise and I want to do one with all 30 teams. What do you think is the best way to go about doing this so it's realistic in terms of prospects callups, lineup management, etc?

Just got done beating the Marlins 10-2 to run my record with the Reds to 25-14. I almost be thru the 1st season if I hadnt restarted to use the Hybrid roster that was backdated to OD. Kind of stinks I did that, but I just couldnt get into the game without the pitch edits, so I ended up restarting.

Year one of my 2013 Yankees franchise is going into the post season.

Will post season stats and leaders this weekend.

Pumped to start the playoffs. And really happy I squeaked in on an incredible one game playoff with Texas to decide it.

Yankees vs Athletics round one....coming up.

                    Re: 2013 Franchise/Season Progress Thread

Well a few weeks ago I messed up and erased my franchise file. Unfortunately I had to start over again, and I decided to make some changes to the backdated Hybrid roster as I felt stats were still a little to high on the offensive side of things. So I started ST'ing and as I played I edited where I felt it needed some adjustments.
I also decided to do something different than I have in the past in franchise mode and instead of following all real life injuries and transactions I decided to injure all the players that were injured to start the season and then let it play out from there with injuries rather than injure players as they got injured IRL. I will still follow trades to real life for the 1st season and that kind of stuff.
After finishing ST'ing with a descent record, I finally got the season under way the other day. I ended up sweeping the Angels with my Reds, and went into the 2nd series of the year against the Nats who are also 3-0 to start the year. Not much offense but I got the win 4-2.
I also like to play some of my minor league games and I won in ablowout with the Bats to start the year. Also won the opener with the Blue Wahoos in a exciting game by pinch hitting Jeff Gelarich in the Bottom of the 9th with the game tied at 3 and he hits a inside the park HR to win it.

how do you disable more than 5 or 6 players on a team. I follow daily transactions and that hampers it.

Well make sure they are in the minors then you can injure more players manually in the majors. There is a limit unfortunately on it but what I do is for guy that might be injured for a long time I will put them in A ball and reinjure them that way it frees up injury space.

About 30 games into Franchise with Orioles.. Traded Arrieta and Strop to Cubs for Scott Feldman and Steve Clevenger at start of Spring Training, signed K-Rod as a free agent as well.

Sitting at 17-13, about 3-3.5 games behind Yanks in AL East. I won eight of first nine games, then lost 10 of 12, and have now won seven of my last nine lol.. Streaky.

Have several guys on DL, lost Brian Roberts for 1-2 months with a shoulder injury, Nolan Reimold 1-2 months with broken bone in his leg and just got Miguel Gonzalez back after about three weeks with a strained pectoral. The injuries have forced me to make some moves (as well as my suspect starting pitching):

-Jason Hammel and minor league catchers Chris Robinson and Zach Booker to Colorado for Michael Cuddyer and Rex Brothers

-Zach Britton and Tsuyoshi Wada to Atlanta for Tim Hudson and Cristhian Martinez

-Jim Johnson to Oakland for Grant Balfour

More updates to follow as we all wait for MLB 14

Finally got the Show, always wanted to try it out but we've had a 360 since 2006. It has surpassed my expectations. My franchise is a fantasy draft (playing on the Vita, default rosters for now).

I've been skipping around, playing with different pitchers, mostly one game a series; I'd say about 5 total. Just took Pittsburgh to extra innings and won it via a Cameron Maybin pinch-hit two-run bomb. Gallardo went 8 innings with 8 Ks and only 4 hits but I struggled on offense against Erasmo Ramirez.

It's currently April 24. We're 12-10 after that, 3.5 back of Atlanta (15-6) and 1.5 GB the Nats (13-8). Beltran's leading the NL MVP race for the Reds (.442, 8 HR, 25 RBI) and Mike Trout is just behind for my Phillies (.395/9/22). Samardzija is the Cy Young frontrunner at 4-0 with 20 strikeouts and a 1.13 ERA. They've got the potential rookie of the year too in 1B Chris Mosley (.318/3/12).

Nelson Cruz (.410/6/21) and Brandon Moss (.391/6/20) are hot right now AND Ben Revere is first in hits with 37. Ryan Braun (.313, 24 RBI) and Josh Hamilton (.302, 18 RBI) are tied in 1st with 10 HRs. Bronson Arroyo (2.43 ERA, 16 K) and R.A. Dickey (2.70 ERA, 30 K) are best wins-wise alongside the Shark and Fernando Salas in relief. Jeff Niemann's 1.37 earned run average is second to Samardzjia and Barry Zito is in third with 1.45. Aroldis is dominating in strikeouts with 43 and Gallardo + Pineda have 35 and 34 respectively (both on the Phillies).

Joe Kinkade is batting .396 in the minors, tops for AAA. Mike Olt (of the Mudhens) has the most RBIs - 25 plus a .250 avg and 4 homers. Chris Carter is doing well for my Ironpigs - leading in SLG% (.690) and OPS (1.133), t-2nd in HRs (5). Juan Nicasio has a 2.08 ERA for the Ironpigs, as well as 24 strikeouts and a 4-0 record. Only Clayton Richard (also on Detroit's AAA) has similar in the win column (3.16, 4-0, 20 K). Julio Teheran (Indy Indians) has the lowest ERA at 1.33 (and WHIP - 0.81) and Will Smith (Knights) / Drew Hutchison (Railriders) tied for 26 punchouts.

All that said, here's my lineup:
                            RF Alex Gordon - .244, 4 HR, 6 RBI
                            2B Chase Utley - .329, 4 HR, 11 RBI
CF Mike Trout - .387, 9 HR, 22 RBI (he was on fire early on, .582 average or something)
                            1B Chris Davis - .349, 4 HR, 14 RBI
SS Hanley Ramirez - .211, 2 HR, 9 RBI (I really can't hit in-game with him for some reason)
                            3B Manny Machado - .213, 3 HR, 11 RBI
                            C Rob Brantley - .300, 1 HR, 8 RBI
                            LF Cameron Maybin - .270, 1 HR, 9 RBI

                            OF Nate Schierholtz - .480, 12 RBI
                            C Tony Cruz - .200, 2 RBI
SS Ruben Tejada - .206, 2 RBI (he's in there leadoff against LHP due to his good contact against them)
                            3B Kyle Seager - .216, 0 RBI
                            OF Endy Chavez - .160, 3 RBI

                            And the rotation/bullpen:

                            LHP Madison Bumgarner - 3-0, 3.69, 26 K
                            RHP Yovani Gallardo - 1-3, 2.51, 35 K
                            RHP Michael Pineda - 2-1, 3.45, 34 K
                            LHP Francisco Liriano - 0-1, 2.45, 28 K
RHP Dylan Bundy - 1-0, 5.75, 16 K (picked him for his huge potential but he's been cold, great CB in-game though)

                            LR Dan Straily - 0-1, 9.53, 6 K
                            LR Chris Archer - 1-0, 21.60, 3 K
                            MR Javier Lopez - 0-0, 2.03, 12 K
                            MR Trevor Rosenthal - 1-1, 0.77, 13 K
                            SU Addison Reed - 1-2, 2.35, 14 K
                            SU Henry Rodriguez - 1-1, 2.38, 13 K (1 SV)
                            CL Ryan Cook - 0-0, 0.00, 4 K, 4 SV

I'm pretty pleased with how I put the roster together but it could always improve. I'm looking forward to being able to claim guys on waivers and doing the Rule 5 Draft for the first time. I love managing stuff and changing up the roster so having the 40-man in place should make things fun. Thinking I'll be active on the trade front and I have the scouts looking out for prospects in different areas. Most recently I've send out one to look at a lefty with good command internationally and another to check on catchers with power and fielding ability in the central.
                            ---------------------------------------------------------
Update at May 4: we're now 17-14 and 4.5 behind the 21-9 Braves. Ended up promoting P Juan Nicasio and 1B/OF Chris Carter. Nicasio could end up taking a rotation spot (possibly Bundy's) because he went 6-0 with a 1.75 ERA in AAA. For now, he makes a pretty good extra LR; Chris Archer (1-0, 9.82) would have been MR where his stuff would probably be better used in shorter spurts but I have to send someone down. Endy Chavez also got sent to the minors so I'm short on OF help but Carter can play there in a pinch. At some point I might option Tejada or Seager to AAA so I can have an extra outfielder but not sure who - Tejada's bat against lefties is valuable.

Been having some pretty fun pitcher duels so far. Matt Harrison and Francisco Liriano (I'm not loving his pitch selection) dealt and I had to take out Cisco Kid out around the 7th iirc. At times I just have nothing going on offense but there have been occasions where I pull it out in the clutch. I've had to make a lot of pitcher changes to preserve some stamina and put in pinch hitters too. Nate Schierholtz hit a solo shot in the top of the 10th against Dylan Axelrod and the Giants, his former team. Trevor Rosenthal and his nasty curve got it done with Ryan Cook resting and grabbed his second save. Philly is at 20-14, a nice jump on what they were at a little earlier. We've cut the deficit in the division down a few games and we're tied with the Brewers for the NL Wild Card. Our 5 game win streak and a 7-3 record in the last 10 has boosted us up but we have 2 more losses than them.

I'm considering going after Justin Upton at some point but right now I'm unsure what the Giants would want for him.
                              ------------------------
Chris Davis blasted a curveball on the first pitch from Phil Humber of Arizona with a beauty of a swing for a bomb to right field. The dude is a joy to play with. Madison Bumgarner was perfect until the 6th when he allowed a two-out single to pinch-hitter Placido Polanco. Knew I shouldn't have thrown him a fastball, but nonetheless MadBum's curveball is pretty. Hanley has rebounded from a cold streak and exploded for his 4th, 5th, and 6th homers by the 7th inning as we are destroying the DBacks, 7-0. Mike Trout has been killing it on all cylinders - in addition to a few hits and a homer he's stolen three bases, I love using his speed. Bumgarner has given up a few more hits but I left him in there and have been rewarded with double plays afterwards. Juan Nicasio got some work in the 9th and Gordon made a nice diving catch to end the rout.

On another note, I have to say I love how smooth the gameplay of this is, and the presentation is amazing, especially for a Vita game. And I'm liking the franchise mode so far.. it's everything you could want in a baseball experience.

                                Phillies Fantasy Draft Franchise

Simmed ahead to June so we could move closer to the draft.
                                • Phils are 34-21, one back of the Nationals (35-20). The Reds are chasing us for the NL Wild Card at 32-23.

                                • Paul Konerko (Dodgers) is now in first for the NL MVP race. He's batting .335 with 53 RBIs and 23 HRs. Mike Trout of Philadelphia is 3rd with a .337 average, 20 homers, and 45 runs driven in.

                                • Johnny Cueto of St. Louis has overtaken the NL Cy Young at a 8-2 record, 41 punchouts, and a 2.43 earned run average.

                                • Delivery Man of the Year is currently going to Joel Hanrahan, closer for Washington. He has 18 SVs with 20 Ks but a poor 4.58 ERA and an 0-2 record. Carlos Marmol's stat sheet is cleaner at 1.62 with 18 SVs, 15 strikeouts, and no decisions for the Reds.

                                • Rookie of the Year is going towards Stu Doty, young 3B of Arizona. His batting line reads .287/12/36.

                                • Vet Lance Berkman has kept his ability in his old age for the Miami Marlins. His .367/11/30 line could potentially land him the Hank Aaron Award.

                                • 1B Chris Davis is 3rd in the Gold Glove race. Chase Utley is 2nd for his position, behind Marco Scutaro. Manny Machado is behind Brandon Inge (Mets) for 3B. Chutley is ahead of the game for Silver Slugger, though. Trout is decisively in there for OF.

                                • Aroldis Chapman is trailed by the Phillies' own Francisco Liriano, Yovani Gallardo, and Michael Pineda, in order, for strikeouts. Their count, respectively: 92, 80, 77, and 77.

                                • Zach Britton has a sparkling 1.88 ERA for the Marlins. That's #1 in baseball at the moment. His 0.93 WHIP ties only R.A. Dickey of the Nats for lowest in the majors.

                                • Madison Bumgarner of the Phillies remains the only starter to have a perfect record. He's 6-0 with 52 strikeouts and a 3.55 ERA in 66 innings.

                                • Speedster Eric Young Jr. of New York (NL) is the stolen base king right now at 31. Ben Revere, 2nd with 28 SB, is on the other hand 1st in doubles with 23 and hits at 77.
