I tried the pausing as well and it seem to have an immediate affect. First pitch was a slider (#3 pitch) high and tight and almost hit me. The next at bat it looked almost like a pitch out but no one was on base.

Re: first pitch meatballs....bug?
If this really is a fix, it should work on the Vita version as well - you can call time with the same button on there, to my surprise. I don't remember being able to do that last year on the Vita - guess I just didn't remember it.Comment

Re: first pitch meatballs....bug?
Honestly running CPU vs. CPU games just to hunt down this particular bus isn't worth the time, I think. It's a bit of an overkill for what now appears to be an issue with a workaround.
What I would suggest is just go back and play a couple games *without* the d-pad pause workaround, and see if your games revert back to the old state of strike friendliness.
Do you see the problem again? Then it's a pretty solid evidence that there's something funny happening before and after the d-pad pause. That's probably good enough report to file a solid bug report at theshownation.
There must be some difference in the ways you guys and *I* set up the play settings that have lead to this problem for you but not for me... but that probably might be harder to nail down, since we aren't physically working side by side and we of course don't remember all the steps that we took after playing quite a few games.
This method of correcting a bug looks awfully familiar... like in previous years we had to cancel signs by pressing pause in RTTS when a hit-and-run was on, otherwise the runner who stole second on a failed hit-and-run attempt proceeded to steal third every time...
Maybe the game introduced a bug when the Beginner mode was implemented, to override the user setting. (still wondering why I never see the issue... but anyways)
Great catch guys!Comment

Re: first pitch meatballs....bug?
I can 100% confirm that this workaround does in fact work. Ive played about 20 RTTS games and im getting the ptichers #1 pitch (usually fastball) maybe 50% of the time and am only seeing about 60% first pitch strikes. Its a nice easy workaround too, just call time after the pitcher selects his first pitch.
P.S. you don't need to adjust strike frequency for this to work as I have mine at default.Comment

Re: first pitch meatballs....bug?
CPU vs CPU, Hall of Fame difficulty
I'll list the pitch and location. I am using 1-9 for location. 1-3 across the top from left to right, 4-6 across the middle left to right, 7-9 across the bottom from left to right.
Game 1 (Gallardo vs Price)
Milwaukee
Gallardo pitched 6 innings, every pitch was a 4FB, the locations were 4,5,6,5,7,2
Badenhop pitched the 7th, pitch was a SNK, location was 6
Henderson pitched the 8th and 9th, both pitches were 4 FB, locations 2, 4
Tampa
Price pitched 8 innings, every pitch was a 4FB, locations 4,5,5,4,4,1,6,8
Peralta pitched the 9th inning, pitch was a 4FB, location 8
Game 2 (Niese vs Samardzija)
NY
Niese pitched 6 innings, all pitches were 4FB, locations 4,5,7,5,6,3
Byrdak pitched 1 inning, pitch was a SL, location 5
Ramirez pitched 1 inning, pitch was a 4FB, location 7
Cubs
Samardzija pitched 8 innings, all pitches were a 4FB, location 1,7,4,1,5,3,8,8
Marmol pitched 1 inning, pitch was a SL, location 8
Game 3 (Beachy vs Beckett)
Atl
Beachy pitched 5 innings, all pitches were a 4 FB, location 3,3,5,9,B. Last one is a ball.
O'Flaherty pitched one inning, pitch was a SNK, location 7
Gearrin pitched one inning, pitch was a SNK, location 6
Walden pitched one inning, pitch was a 4FB, location 2
LAD
Beckett pitched 4 innings, pitches were all 4 FB, locations 7,6,1,9
Capuano pitched 2 innings, pitches were both SNK, location 5,9
Belisario pitched 1 inning, pitch was SNK, location 7
Jansen pitched 1 innings, pitch was Cut, location 7
League pitched 1 inning, pitch was SNK, location 3
I saw one ball total. I believe all pitches were the pitchers #1. A few strikes i think should have been balls but they weren't.Just ran 3 CPU vs. CPU games using the method Heros posted on page 36, Philadelphia at Atlanta, default sliders, all star difficulty in my profile. Of the 52 AB's to lead off an inning, 48 of those pitches were for strikes, around 92%, and an overwhelming majority were the pitchers' primary pitch . FWIW I am playing on a DL copy from the PS store.

Re: first pitch meatballs....bug?
Went down to All Star from Legend, definitely seeing this as an issue, pretty blatant too. Playing in franchise mode, it happens:
1. First pitch of an inning.
2. First pitch when a pitcher comes in to relieve.
And it isn't just a first pitch strike. It is indeed a big fat meatball.
Hopefully they squash this nasty bug, as it's killing the game for me. My guess is it has something to do with the new beginner mode; casual gaming, dragging down the industry, smh. (settle down, it was a tongue in cheek remark)Comment

Re: first pitch meatballs....bug?
In non RTTS time would only need to be called on the first pitch of every inning or whenever a new reliever comes in. In RTTS time needs to be called before the first pitch of every one of your player at bats.Comment

You know, that thought never occurred to me. However, now that we're fairly confident that this is in fact a bug and not intentional, we can also be fairly sure it will be patched.A screaming comes across the sky...Comment
