Re: Worst team in The Show!!
Rockies, the farm system and pitching staff is in shambles. Yeah they can hit, but everyone knows its takes a good pitcher from keeping it a slugfest day in and day out to win a game.NFL - Denver Broncos
NCAAF - Boise State Broncos
Champions Indoor Football - Sioux City Bandits 9-2
MLB - Toronto Blue Jays 56-45
NHL - Colorado Avalanche 2022 STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS
United States Hockey League - Sioux City Musketeers
2022 Clark Cup ChampionsComment

Re: Worst team in The Show!!
Using the default rosters, in my first 15 Rockies Spring Training games in MoM mode, I would occasionally win some 8-6, 10-7 games when the offensive was working. But more often than not I was losing 9-2, 8-4 and 6-1 games at twice the rate I was winning games. What was the common denominator here? The opposition was shredding the starters with 5-6 runs in the first 3-4 innings of every game and it was the starters not the relief pitchers who were messing up (at least in the game). If the Rockies could not score a minimum of 6 runs in a game, they were toast.Last edited by My993C2; 03-19-2013, 12:17 PM.Comment

Re: Worst team in The Show!!
For some reason I'm strangely intrigued a by the thought of using the Marlins as my team in franchise mode.
I know they are pretty bad and all that but do you guys think there is any chance they could make it to the postseason without completely giving up on realism? Could they possibly do something like Oakland did last year if all the pieces come together? I really want to play for something already in my first season so the least I would go for is being in the mix for a wild card spot until late September.Spending time with Jesus!

I think some of it depends on HOW you play the games. I play on Timing Hitting/Classic Pitching which more heavily takes into account the abilities of the players. If your style of play is more user-input based, then you may have a better chance. For some reason I'm strangely intrigued a by the thought of using the Marlins as my team in franchise mode.

With that said, could you replicate the A's run last year with this year's Marlins? That would be tough as the underlying talent isn't there in Miami. But, if you can get Pierre and Solano on-base a lot, bat Stanton third, you could give him a chance at 2 and 3 run HR's each game. If the rest of the lineup could simply not suck, they might have a chance to put 4 runs on the board every other game.
The next trick is getting very good pitching. Nolasco would have to do away with his Jekyl/Hyde act and be consistently good (because when he is on, he is very solid). There is some talented youth in the rotation (Turner, Eovaldi, and Fernandez once OSFM is out), but all would have to blossom at one time, which is a tall order. This would allow you to push mediocre talents like Alvarez and LeBlanc to swingmen roles and bolster the bullpen by pushing out the crap talent out.
Finally, all your key players must stay healthy. Organizational depth is minimal. But, this is where you could contribute in a realistic manner as GM in your franchise by adding some cheap veteran talent (via free agency or trade) to stash away in AAA or on your MLB bench. This is what Baltimore did so well last year with guys like McLouth and Ford along with their five gazillion pitchers.
Is it going to be easy....heck no. Can you win that wild card berth (because you will not be good enough to catch the Nats)? Yes, I think you can.
(Yes, I too have been thinking about using them once the OSFM rosters drop).Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

I'm playing with analog pitching and hitting so from that standpoint I guess stats don't matter quite as much.
However I want to replicate something that isn't completely unlikely to happen in real life if I as a GM would get a free hand to do whatever I want within the budget restraints. So I would definitely bring in few free agents available on the OFSM roster.
It doesn't have to be quite as good as what the As did last year but as I said being in the Wildcard race till late September in my first year already would be necessary to keep me motivated as I will play almost all games myself. That's also why a rebuilding isn't an option for me.Spending time with Jesus!
