Re: MLB 13 Manager Only Mode Questions
Ok so this is my first foray into MoM. I took the Padres. Made sum FA moves. Signed Braden and Dice K. Cut marquis and volquez. Then signed the beard and K-Rod. And cut brach and thatcher.
This should prove to be interesting lolNCAA BBALL10 PS3

Re: MLB 13 Manager Only Mode Questions
I don't know if others have mentioned this, but It seems like aside from setting the defense, using pitch strategy seems important. I was only in Spring Training, but using pitch strategy was more effective than not using it, and helped me get more Ks for my pitcher. The downside to all this is time. It took me quite a long time to finish the game when setting defense and using pitch strategy. How do you guys feel about this, using pitch strategy for every opposing player?Comment

I do it...but not for every pitch or every batter.
If I get to 0-2....I pitch around for 1 pitch.
If it gets to 1-2...I pick a specific zone..
If it is 2-0...I pitch aggressive.
I think Brian_SCEA is keen on the idea to allow us hot keys to select pitches and the pitch zone all in one shot.
So...pre-pitch you will have a moment to pick the pitch and zone.
I have suggested using the L-Stick to pick one of the nine quadrants(since it is already setup to handle that) and then the X/O/SQ/TRI/R1/R2 buttons for the pitch selection.
If you do not do that...it would default to "PLAY BALL" as it does now and would be on the CPU ....
Hopefully they can add it in.

I'm just wondering what the 'success rate' would be/how it would be determined if they added in quadrant selection.
I mean...it's not guaranteed they would always hit their spots, and that might lead to too perfect of pitches or some people thinking the feature is 'broken.'
Just speculating of course.Comment

Re: MLB 13 Manager Only Mode Questions
Knight, do you use the "high, low, inside, outside" commands at all now?

I use it on a first pitch if I am trying to get a groundball or hit a certain way.....or on the 1-2 count to try and get the batters weak spot.

Re: MLB 13 Manager Only Mode Questions
That's the problem with how it is now, not being able to select pitch type. Like say you want a ground ball and would like your pitcher to throw a 2-seam/sinker low but instead he could throw a slider/cutter and it's hit opposite of area you want, or put another way, opposite of how your defense is set.Comment

Re: MLB 13 Manager Only Mode Questions
I haven't even noticed pitch to batter. Next time I play, I'll look for it. What does it do? Would be interesting if it allowed you to actually pitch to the batter.

Exactly.....but most of the time my call is for low and away....so it's a safe call.
My first pitch...."get a strike?"....I go with inside.....
IMO it's the best combo of "safe" and possible swing and miss ....or just take.

Pitch to batter usually means the pitcher will throw something good to hit not always but often.I will occasionslly use pitch aggressive which is usually a better located pitch as opposed to pitch to batter. When i use pitch around and the pitcher has high confidence you'll often see really good pitchesGiants
