Help with RTTS hitting (13 edition)

Haven't seen a thread for this year's edition of the game.

My character on RTTS is in AA just around the All-Star break and I'm only batting .220. I am trying to take the first 2-3 pitches each at bat (using the 'meatball workaround'). I use Timing mode (I want my characters attributes to matter more).

Anyways, I want to keep the pitching (selection, location) realistic, but I also probably shouldn't be hitting that low. Any recommendations?

I figure this could maybe be used as a place to post any hitting tips, from attribute training to technique to anything else, for RTTS.

    Thanks!

Are you improving all of the hitting-related attributes for your player, including Plate Vision?

What difficulty level are you on? Have you considered reducing the difficulty?

Are you using Power Swings or Guess Pitch? Have you tried batting without either?

And have you tried modifying the Pitch Speed slider?

      Thanks for the re:, Bobhead!

      1) I am trying to focus on Plate Vision because I read that it has perhaps the largest effect on hitting. Could you or anyone clarify what contact, power, and plate vision each actually do? I am just guessing (first-timer with The Show).

      2) I'll have to check on the difficulty I'm on because I don't remember it right now...but, I am afraid to lower it because the pitcher AI (pitch selection/placement) seems pretty good and I've heard that the difficulty settings affect the pitcher's AI.

      3) I don't really use power swings, should I? I mainly just do the "normal swing" with x. Sometimes I will do a contact swing if I am terrified of a strike out I have started using guess pitch, but only to target troublesome pitches I want to make sure I see if I get them.

      4) I haven't done much with this yet, because I don't want things to get arcade-y or anything. Maybe I should try it though. I guess I just want my player to have a realistic stat line. It's annoying being (per attributes) the best on the team and being statistically the worst.

I feel like I just tend to get good contact but hit right at the defense a lot or fly out right on the warning track. That sort of thing.

I haven't delved too much into the science behind attributes, but they probably do what you think they do. The better your contact rating, the more you will hit line drives, and the less you will hit lame pop ups and grounders. Power is self explanatory, and Plate Vision is how often your bat touches the ball... basically the higher your Plate Vision, the less frequently you will whiff at the plate.

Plate Vision is fairly important, and since you hit on Timing hitting, Plate Vision becomes even more important. With Timing hitting, the location of the PCI is almost completely dependent on how high your Plate Vision rating is. So I'd definitely try to increase that first, Contact second...

Power is pretty unimportant for now, since a) minor league stadiums are generally smaller, and b) minor league pitchers are generally easier to hit home runs off of. You can increase Power, but don't worry about focusing on it or giving it any serious amount of attention, especially since average seems to be your primary concern. I had like 4 or 5 home runs before I ever increased Power a single time. When you move up to AAA, Power becomes more important, and you will definitely want to have a competitive Power rating by the time you are in the MLB... but for now, don't worry about it.

And not using Power Swing is definitely a good idea. Power Swings come at the expense of contact (batting average), so until you get more consistency at the plate, I wouldn't push my luck.

1: Play with all the batting camera views. Make sure you can see the ball. If you cant tell if the ball is going down or up maybe you should change the view.

          2. Look at the pitcher's types and the speed of pitches. If a pitcher fastball is only 89 usullay you can wait on that slow pitch and crush is. If its above 90 or more. You should speed up you hitting. If you look at all the pitches that the pitchers has, to the right of it its a blue bar. If the bar is filled you know that he has been using that pitch alot.

          3. Take a couple of pitches. Try to out think the pitcher. If a pitcher is pitching down 90% of down you should be able to pick up on this or if he is throwing two up and one down and back up pick up on that.

          4. NEVER USE GUESS A PITCH OR THE LOCATION OF A PITCH. Its good when you guess a pitch and the location but I feel you limited your chances of hitting the ball.

5.Use normal swing 90% of the time. If you have a power hitter use it on a 3-0 or 3-1 count. Sometimes even on a 2-0 account depending on the location of the pitch. I never use contact swing. I only use it if I have a pitcher and I have 2 strikes.

          6. If you are using zone hitting (Which is the best 2 me) pick a zone and move your pci to that zone. If you noticed the pitcher is pitching up all the time you should move your pci up. If you wait or that pitch to get in the zone you draw more balls and get more hits. Also if you have the pci in thw lower zone but you see that pitch going to the middle release the pci from the lower zone. It give you more zone options. Do this for upper zone was well. If you have 2 strikes you must protect the plate. Dont pick a zone. Just swing at a pitch thats in the strike zone just make sure you move your pci to that zone. But you must be on top of it and watch the ball.

Also in RTTS increase your vision and your contact the most. (VERY IMPORTANT)

Im hitting on Hall of Fame now. I use to hit on Veteran but I moved up by doing these steps. Remember this is like a real baseball game. You have to think like a real batter.
