Drafting has been huge in my franchise and the only reason I've been able to compete each year with the Marlins. Just wrapped up the 2022 season after falling to the Orioles 4-2 in the World Series. I did win the 2016 World Series and have made the playoffs 5 times in that span. The following players are starters from last year's team that I drafted:
SS Stuart Fink 89 OVR (2014 Round 1)
RF Clay Mixon 96 OVR (2015 Round 1)
1B Bob Bayliss 92 OVR (2016 Round 1)
2B Rafael Valido 85 OVR (2019 Round 1)
I guess the take away point is to make sure that you don't strike out at the top of the draft (no pun intended) because those players are cheap talent to help keep a franchise afloat and can often make it to the majors within 2-3 years (unlike some of the later round A potential guys). The rest of my team is full of prospects I traded for and developed and guys that I stole in the Rule 5 draft. But if I didn't draft as well as I did the Marlins would still be in the NL East cellar.
