MLB 14 Wishlist: General Gameplay if you could have any feature, addition, tweak what would it be? Remember you can only choose two.

    1. "Hitter's Eye" like M.V.P. Tie it to a players attribute. Colour coded to pitch type. Unless there is away to show the seams rotating on a ball (PS4 maybe?).

    2. Continue fine tuning hitting (bat and ball) physics.
I am the lesson after the fall.

      1. On offense: The ability to control the PCI throughout your entire swing. Or decrease the PCI 'lock' period.

      2. Defensive changes: Add variable time it takes for the ball location marker to show up (ratings dependent), same for the catch region graphic size... Also add a 'call-off' button for fielders. Give every player ratings for all nine positions.

        1) holding runners/ base running mechanic - slide-steps vs full leg kicks, leads in between the standard safe lead and the currently very dangerous extra step lead. Anything to make this aspect of the game more organic.

        2) pitch recognition/ball spin- let us be able to recognize the pitch by the ball spin: red dot on the slider, two stripes on the two seamer, one diagonals stripe on the sinker, side spin on the change up, slow back spin on the splitter, slow forward spin on the forkball etc. hopefully with the possibilities of the new system this could be done right.

          1. Give us much better fielding animations, especially with infielders. Like on choppers to third base. Also, the way the 1st basemen catches the baseball is not realistic enough. first basemen rarely catch throws from the infield underhanded. have the 1st basemen stretch and be more active as far as how they set up on the bag, whether that is the left, middle, or right side of first base.

          2. in an at-bat, do not penalize us when we intentionally throw a waste pitch when we are ahead of a hitter with an 0-2 or 1-2 count. when the count is even, like 2-2 or when the hitter is ahead, like 2-1 or 3-1, then penalize us when we throw a ball out of the zone. I feel this would be a great to add to the game.

          Thanks Again, Mr. Ramone.

            1. make sure that a pitcher's confidence fluctuates properly when we sim parts of the game in the fast-forward (ff)screen, because right now it does not work as it should. the confidence in-game and in the ff screen does not change, as least visually it does not change.

            2. add more balls thrown to the 1st basemen that are in the dirt and that the 1st basemen cannot scoop up. this has gotten better. we know that a baseball should not just "vaccumn" into a players glove. physics need to be improved in this area.

Once again, God Bless and thanks for your kindness, Russell and all at SCEA.

General Gameplay if you could have any feature, addition, tweak what would it be? Remember you can only choose two.

              1. PICK OFF system: When on base give us the option to fully manual control the runner on going back to the bag on a pick-off. So not on default but just as an option would be great
This would make the whole cat and mouse game when taking leads on base much more dynamic.

              2. CUT OFF system: Option to let the ball pass the cutoff man after you have selected a throw to the cut-off man.
This is how it could work:

              Analog throwing:
Holding the L1 button while throwing gets the ball to the cutoff but if you release L1 before it gets to the cutoff he lets it pass.

              Button throwing:
After throwing to the cut-off a single L1 tap again before it gets to the cut-off would do.

So basically just like in real life where the fielder on base or catcher screams to the cut-off to let the ball pass at the very last moment.

                1) Have CPU and human controlled team do a better job at positioning/shifting for the hitter's tendencies.

                2) Reduce catcher's ability to almost warp from behind the plate to a slow dribbler infront of plate. Their ability to get to these balls and make the play at first seems a bit exaggerated.

                  1) New or improved base running controls. Now in my second year with The Show and this is still something I struggle with.

                  2) Changes to the catchers ability to pounce on balls around the plate. What capa said in the post above.

1.Baserunning: For some reason I can not steal a base if I have runners on 1st and 3rd. If I want the player on 1st to attempt a steal, I have no control over leading off or stealing if 3rd base is occupied. MLB12 worked in this situation.

                    2. Manager ingame decisions: Would like the ability to call a hit and run, argue umpire calls, send the catcher to calm down the pitcher, etc. I am asking for the manager to have an increased presence during the game, even when you are playing vs the cpu. You could have an option for ask the manager for beginner players, but I just want to be able to H&R, R&H, steal, with a simple button press, playing the cpu.

Re: MLB 14 Wishlist: General Gameplay?

I had to re-write this like nine times to decide which two things I thought were most important about the hitting and fielding I wanted to detail.

                      1) Hitting

This will be with regard to ball physics. If the corner outfielders are pushed five to ten feet closer toward the center fielder (not my fielding wish by the way but would be nice), I think it will support a better hitting physics engine when it comes to allowing extra base hits to come in a little more here and there. Power alleys are called those for a reason... because those balls which split gaps are actually hit with true authority. Many doubles down the line don't need too much to be doubles, other than pass the corner infielder down the line. Normally, good top spin and using the dirt will help that, but it would slow up on the grass. Meanwhile, line shots in the gap, if hit hard enough, should still be able to split these gaps. Rising liners can still find their way over outfielders' heads if the ball is squared up right. Basically, a little more of something needs to give with the ball physics engine when it comes to the different spin types, grass vs. dirt, and hits up the middle versus hits down the lines.

                      2) Fielding

Along the same concept, players simply get to balls too quickly. It has a lot to do with both their acceleration and this understanding that fielders simply don't run at top speed to cover up a ball that's hit to them on the ground. In the air they can show their true range, but when they have to recuperate to center up behind a ball and work with momentum toward the infield, a dead sprint just doesn't cut it. That said, although they can probably run most quickly when coming inward, outfielders can't be scrumming toward the infield hurriedly on a base hit. They are just closing the gap way too much. Coming from the side, they should have to utilize more of a rounding effect to build up proper momentum for a throw home. And finally, going back on a ball (whether in the air or on the ground past them), they can't run at the same speed as they could facing forward. When picking up a ball, they need to slow up to gather themselves. It will be tough to figure out the right movement and system, but this is where the true problems lie. And as I said earlier, the corner outfielders hug the lines a bit too much in their default positions.

I know these are vague and overwhelming, and I wish I had nine more re-writes to get this to sound good, but that's all I'll be saying.

                        1. I discussed this with Brian SCEA while at CD, but I'd still like for the game to continue to get tuned to provide more walks in the CPU vs. CPU gameplay engine. I understand that it's current state was a choice made by design and circumstance, but feel that the game would still benefit from more pitches per team per game and more moments of pitcher's completely losing their command of the strikezone (and though this would certainly translate to the human playing experience too, I still think more walks and bouts of completely wildness would be a good thing for the series moving forward in Human and CPU gameplay).

                        2. I'd like the see the CPU shift its fielders based on the hitter's spray charts. The push/pull system is very well done. Having the fielders react to it in the future would take that system and its realism to the next level.

1.) More attributes/ tendencies. Guys like Hunter Pence will always hustle down the line or dive head first in foul territory to make a catch. Not everyone should have the same defensive capabilities, only a select few can make the Derek Jeter jump throw, I shouldn't be seeing that in triple a ball. A dive rating would be great.

2.) Hitters eye. MVP 05 did not get this perfect imo like everyone thinks they did. You shouldn't be able to KNOW what pitch is coming before they throw it. But if you're looking for a fastball dead red a 3-0 count and you get it, there should be some visual indicator that you're free to swing away. Again, use a rating system. Joey Votto should have a much better time seeing pitch type than most hitters.

Thanks for reading our feedback and actually taking what we say into consideration, that's why you guys are the best!

                            1. Ability to move the batter slightly up, down, left, or right in the box.

                            2. Consider base running controls with touch controller on PS4.

                              1) Improved simulation of pitchers by pitch repertoire.

While the current system of letting H/9, K/9, BB/9, and HR/9 (honorary mention since the last doesn't affect gameplay) carry strong weight in pitcher effectiveness works well in dice-roll simulation, I would like to eventually see the game move to a system in which individual pitch repertoire determines the effectiveness of a pitcher. A major reason why gamers do not feel much of a difference between facing an ace and a 4th starter in the game, I feel, is because of the current pitcher rating system.

By having those pitcher attributes acting as a set of anti-attributes for hitters' Contact, Vision, Discipline, and Power, pitcher performance difference tends to be felt only in terms of outcome and not by process.... For example, when I square up against a 92 mph fastball from a 40 H/9 pitcher and a 90 H/9 pitcher, I may hit a solid line drive in the latter but may ground out against the latter (given all else equal), even though the way I hit, I feel, is the same and the physics of 92 mph is the same in both cases. Similarly, as a pitcher, when I perfectly locate a pitch to the low outside corner, I may still give up a solid hit with a 40 H/9 guy but may ground him out with a 90 H/9 guy, given all else equal. This despite that they are the same pitch, as far as physics is concerned.

In short, I feel the current system is not good enough to simulate the process of pitching with various pitch selection. Rather than letting those “overall effectiveness” attributes like H/9, K/9, BB/9, and HR/9, pitchers' individual pitches could be rated separately, and accordingly to simulate their effectiveness. We do already have Pitch Speed, Control, and Break, but I feel they should essentially takeover those overall effectiveness attributes (or something new added to individual pitch attributes, if necessary).

I think letting individual pitch attributes carrying much heavier weights would make the other parts of the game more engaging as well. For example, in RTTS and franchise, developing a new pitch according to the need becomes essential... when young, you might get away with a 95 heater and a mediocre slider and changeup, all without much command.... but as you age, you start losing a few mphs in the heater and then you may need to reinvent yourself as a pitcher to stay competitive... who relies on better control more or adding another pitch to become a finesse pitcher.

Currently, individual pitch attributes bear pretty much no meaning in simmed games, so developing players reduces to increasing those overall effectiveness ratings, rather than thinking how you actually form pitchers' careers by thinking about what happens in terms of the game of baseball. This is not much fun at all, and prevents a mode like franchise to become a more full fledged game mode where you can really enjoy player development just for the sake of developing players, if you don't play games yourself at all.

                              2) I'm struggling to narrow down to two... I really like to piggy back on Blzer's post on a couple points but he's thorough so I may not want to waste this option on just piggy backing... I'll come back to edit this once I successfully narrow down to another one (which might not happen at all).

                                1. Reducing the amount of comebackers that hit the pitcher

                                2. Overhaul the animation system in regards to fielding. There's zero fluidity at all, it seems each motion is separate and unconnected to the rest. Some of motions are IMO bizarre and don't occur at the correct times. Outfielders wind up and gun it in when it's a simple throw returning the ball to the infield after the catch. Would really love to see this overhauled.
