Re: MLB 14 Wishlist: General Gameplay?

I guess my requests are specifically for Manage Only Mode but could also pertain to regular Gameplay...

MLB 14 Wishlist: General Gameplay if you could have any feature, addition, tweak what would it be? Remember you can only choose two.

    1. A "hot" button to get immediately into the Bullpen screen on both offense and defense, and the Defensive Alignment screen on defense.
I know that a couple of button presses as it is now isn't hard, but they add up, and as much as I go into the bullpen to check readiness or make switches resulting from the outcomes of batters, it would be great to just click L2 or R2 to get right into that screen. Same for defensive alignment, to make quicker adjustments, since I'm going into this screen practically after every batter.

    2. I would love to be able to Manage the CPU team I'm playing against as well. To be able to make 'smarter' pitching/defensive changes to lead to a more realistic game. Seems like this should exist in 30 team control.

      1) Right analog pitching controls (like the other game - assuming the don't have it patented).

      2. SEE NAFBUC's #2 -
      2. Manager ingame decisions: Would like the ability to call a hit and run, argue umpire calls, send the catcher to calm down the pitcher, etc. I am asking for the manager to have an increased presence during the game, even when you are playing vs the cpu. You could have an option for ask the manager for beginner players, but I just want to be able to H&R, R&H, steal, with a simple button press, playing the cpu.

1.Baserunning: For some reason I can not steal a base if I have runners on 1st and 3rd. If I want the player on 1st to attempt a steal, I have no control over leading off or stealing if 3rd base is occupied. MLB12 worked in this situation.

This is currently in the game see the manual and strategy guide.

          My 2 gameplay tweaks —

1: PITCHING - Add a pitching mode where you would have to time your button presses to the movement of the pitchers body. Kind of like meter pitching, but without the visual meter interface. I try this sometimes with meter pitching and I'm always amazed by how closely the meter is mapped to the pitcher's body movements, so this would just expand on that. Different from meter though, this would only have 2 button presses in the sequence: 1) Start windup, or step towards plate in the stretch; and 2) Release pitch - where you would have to time your button press to the correct release point of a pitcher by watching and paying attention to where the ball should come out of his hand during the delivery. What's missing is the strength of the pitch, and for this I was thinking it could have modifiers (like hitting currently does), where the default is normal strength, and then you could choose a button to modify whether you want to blow it by the hitter or try to really finesse a pitch a paint the black. Kinda like power swing and contact swing. This mode would make it so much fun to get to know each pitcher's delivery quirks. For warmups, maybe this mode would give you 10-16 pitches instead of the 8 so that you could get better used to his motion before the game starts. I would love this.

2: HITTING - use the R2 / L2 buttons as analog steswing buttons. The reason for this is that I find I have a lot more analog control with R2 / L2 than I do with the right stick. With the right stick, it's still pretty much an all or nothing kind of experience for me. And with this trigger button input, you could do two things — 1) choose to use the right trigger, the left trigger, or a combination of both, to mimic batting righty and lefty. And 2) incorporate a new check-swing button that would involve hitting one of the face buttons during your swing to check. This allows me to check-swing only when I absolutely want to check swing, since the mechanic would not be tied to the same button as the swing button. In addition to this, maybe add in an extreme difficulty level where you could have a button sequence that tries to really mimic swing mechanics - 1) load, 2) step, 3) start swing, and 4) finish swing. A well-hit ball would require good timing of all. This will require some serious practice!

            1. Fielding/Throwing System with more user-control over errors:

The basic control will push the analog/button toward a base to select the base and release it to actually throw. Different results will occur based upon how long the analog is held and when it is pushed. I envision the following effects:

            A. Holding the analog at ANY TIME increases the power meter, once power reaches max, continuing to hold the analog will decrease accuracy as the player tries to throw harder than he should.

            B. Holding the analog BEFORE the catch will decrease fielding ability, increasing the chance for a fielding error (player is mentally focused on the throw and bobbles the catch) and throwing accuracy (player is preparing to rush the throw).

            C. Holding the analog AFTER the catch increases throwing accuracy.

            D. Releasing the analog BEFORE the catch causes a fielding error as the player will reach into his glove for the ball before it has actually been caught.

Not only does this system increase user control over errors, it always the user to control the throwing animation.

Strong and Accurate - On a routine grounder with plenty of time the player can wait until the ball is caught to push the analog, holding it to build power for a strong and accurate throw.

Flip Play - Wait until the ball is caught and quickly tap and release the throw, for a weak flip (or throw) with normal accuracy.

Routine Double Play - Don't have time to throw the runner out but need a high percentage throw? Push the analog slightly before the catch to start building power but to avoid most of the accuracy penalty.

Max Power - OF need to throw out an advancing runner? Hold the analog before the catch to build power. Time it so the power meter will be full just as the ball is caught for a max power throw with the minimum accuracy penalty.

Mixed - Need a powerful throw but have a player with low accuracy? Start holding the analog slightly before the catch (increase power, reduce accuracy) and continue to hold it after the catch (increase power, increase accuracy), release when the power meter is full. The player will take longer to make the throw but will make a more accurate toss.

              1. For Pitchers (Pitching Attributes) have a Horizontal break and Vertical break for each pitch instead of just break. Would allow for more differences between each Pitchers pitches. Not all sliders move the same it varies with individual pitchers. Would allow for certain pitchers to have really nasty pitches instead of the all-in-one generic slider etc...

2.Take off the MPH limit of each individual pitch (No Limits).

                1. More animations in the field.
                2. Even better ambient audio and sound effects.

                  1. Injuries - Getting hit with the ball affects the area where you are hit (optional of course, maybe ties to injuries on/off). So if a pitcher is hit in the plant leg, maybe his accuracy control takes a hit. Also if he gets hit in the head he is out of the game, or any other area that would significantly injure you.

                  2. Would love to see mound visits by the catcher and also pitching coach that does not take you out of the game. Maybe even gives you hints on how to pitch the batter (or next). they basically give you a strategy (goal?) to accomplish.

RttS - Pitcher a lot lol

                    1. Give us the ablity to tune down the sensitivity of the right stick when on ANALOG HITTING. Currently I love using this method of hitting but find I get accidental checked swings and sometimes even full swings by BARLEY even touching up on the Right Stick. Seems very very sensitive. I should be allowed to go up to the half-way mark on the stick until the batter swings through the plate, give me at least some leeway so I can take more pitches. Its super fustrating sometimes swinging when you know its a ball and u barley twitched the RS.

                    2. Pitching with Pulse Pitching, Give me the ability to control the speed by how long I hold the pitch button down for.

Too many balls are hitting the pitcher. The pitchers also for the most part shouldn't stay in the game if that happens

                        1) Fielding: Total user control while fielding.

Example: if i slow down to the fielding marker, sometimes the game will lock in an animation that makes the fielder miss the ball - but all the while, during this 'locked-in' animation, i'm jamming on the stick to move the fielder to correct my position but I can't. Essentially, there is still time for me to correct my position to catch the ball, but the animations restrict this. Perhaps this could be an option i.e. Fielding: Auto, Assist, 100% Control

                        2) Improved hit variety - its better than it's ever been, but still, balls down the line die for singles, and hits to 'no-mans land' and 'Texas leaguers' don't seem to happen.

                        Great Game as usual!

                          1) Dynamic API: Meaning that we can actually shake off pitches and go to the next suggestion based on repertoire and the batter. If the API is adamant that you should throw your curveball vs Ryan Howard then it'll keep suggesting that based on his perceived weakness vs knee-bucklers.

The way you could go about that is maybe holding R1 or R2 while you press the button for the suggested pitch to shake it off. The incentive for communicating with the catcher with Dynamic API would be an increased amount of cross-ups and pass balls if you just select any of your pitches "willy-nilly" and hurl them at him.

                          2) I'd like the ability to change speeds with pulse pitching, but I have no idea how that would be worked out. I like the ability to control effort with meter and pure analog, but pulse is my favorite interface to get a good mixture of balls and strikes.

                            1. Bring back the old pitch/location guess system

                            2. Better pitcher getting out of the way animations to avoid the pitcher being hit by the batted ball so often. (and have the pitcher get injured, even if just a day-to-day bruise) when hit on occasion.

                              1) I am ok with the pitching

                              2) On homeruns, the fielding marker is not shown as it lands in the stands. this takes away from the immersion factor. I would rather see the ball marker against the wall, so i at least run back to the wall. as it stands now, when i don't see hte marker, i just stop running, and it takes away from the immersion effect.

                                1. Please fix the ss and 2b going out together to cut the throw from the outfielder.

                                2. Making plays with the 3rd baseman again this year is very hard even with the best fielders.
