free agents cant be signed because it says roster is full?

I am on a cell so I cant use the search, this has prob been asked before..

Just finished my first season in franchise and now a day afyer the world series I have to negotiate with my soon to be free agents.. but when I goto do just that it tells me that I cant sign any more free agents because my roster is full. It seems the game still believes all those players are still on my roster... its not letting me put in any offers.. all i can do is tender qualified offers which I dont want to do yet.

Is this a bug? Anyone also experience this? Can someone search for me? Ty

Is it saying "you can't afford any more players?"...not that your roster is full?

So what happens at the end of the year is your draft picks are added to your roster and will put you over the max number of players allowed, for example 95 players instead of 90. This includes all the players from the previous year including contract renewal players, arbitration eligible players, and unsigned players from the previous year. What you need to do is release players from you roster until you get to the 90 player limit and then you can resign anyone you want.

It doesn't seem to make sense, but the reason the system is in place is to prevent you from resigning all your previous players and tendering qualifying offers to your free agents so that everyone resigns and you are above the 90 player limit come spring training.

What I usually do is go through and "release" players I do not want, who do not have a contract for the following year. Despite not having a contract, your team still has sole negotiating power with them, thus being counted on your roster. I hope this explains everything for you.

You're not getting some players drop off your roster though?
(the guys that are in the final year of their contract?)

From my understanding, the guys that are in the final year of their contract can only negotiate with their previous team for the first 5 days after the World Series and thus still show up on the roster. During that time, the team can also tender a qualifying offer. Minor leaguers in the final year of their contract can only negotiate with their previous team for about half the offseason and can only sign with someone else if their previous team does not offer them a contract at all. Any contract that is offered must be accepted or they just can't play with anyone. As a result, all of those players in the final year of their contract stay on the roster for at least those first 5 days. At least that is my understanding, correct me if I'm wrong.

Ya Bspring that does make sense, I forgot about my draft picks being added. Its a bit confusing but i guess its good to not let me accidentally sign a player just to be over the 90 man limit.

So I have to go release a few players first then, but players I release will still be eligible for me to re-sign or renew correct? Then I think ive got it. Thanks guys I was a bit worried for a sec.

THis part is not necessarily true, they will be unrestricted free agents where any team can sign them. You can still try to resign them but you lose the right to renew their contract automatically. I usually release players I have no intention of resigning, usually older players who are in the minors.

You're correct but to be less vague, Not all the players in the final year of their contract will be off the 90 man after the first 5 days but rather just qualified and unrestiricted free agents on your roster not signed before the 5th day come off your 90 man.
