My last game in my Diamondbacks franchise, Putz came in with a 4-1 lead, 1 on and 1 out. He got 2 quick outs and credited with the save. I don't the issue is widespread at all and more of a minor glitch than anything or it is actually not a save situation.

Re: After patch 1.23 Closer issues
With a three-run lead, he has to pitch a full inning to get the save (assuming no one is on base when he enters). A third of an inning doesn't get it.
From MLB.com:
Saves:
Rule 10.20 in the Official Rule Book states:
Credit a pitcher with a save when he meets all three of the following conditions:
(1) He is the finishing pitcher in a game won by his club; and
(2) He is not the winning pitcher; and
(3) He qualifies under one of the following conditions:
- (a) He enters the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches for at least one inning; or
- (b) He enters the game, regardless of the count, with the potential tying run either on base, or at bat, or on deck (that is, the potential tying run is either already on base or is one of the first two batsmen he faces; or
- (c) He pitches effectively for at least three innings. No more than one save may be credited in each game.Comment

Re: After patch 1.23 Closer issues
Also, to take this a bit further. If a pitcher enters the game with a lead of 4 runs or more (say 5-1) and allows a couple runs to score (making it 5-3) and pitches to the potential tying run, he still does NOT get credit for a save. Because he entered with a lead of more than 3 runs. A pitcher cannot work himself into a save situation. IE He didn't enter the game with a 3 run lead or less, and he didn't enter the game with the tying run either on base, at bat, or on deck. With a three-run lead, he has to pitch a full inning to get the save (assuming no one is on base when he enters). You say extra innings...
Were those pitchers pitching when you took the lead? Because they wouldn't get saves in those situations.Comment

Re: After patch 1.23 Closer issues
Nope. Walden got the win, as he should have.
It was tied at 4 going to extras. Walden pitched the 10th, keeping it at 4. I scored three in the top of the 11th to take the lead. Brought Kimbrel in to start the bottom of the 11th. He set the side down in order.
Walden should have gotten the win (he did) and Kimbrel should have gotten a save (he didn't).
I'm pretty sure this was an issue in previous versions. So I don't think it's patch related.Comment

I haven't had this issue. Long as I win the game I can probably deal with it if it happens though.Comment

What if the closer entered the game with a 4 run lead with the base loaded with with 2 outs and got the last out?Comment

Re: After patch 1.23 Closer issues
Yup that's exactly what happened to me, I don't even go for saves in extra innings anymore because it's clearly not right.Nope. Walden got the win, as he should have.
