I'll tell you something else, The Show can be just as enjoyable CPU vs CPU as playing the game itself.
You don't have to have fast thumbs. The game still carries it's weight.
And that might be another reason the older players enjoy it.

It's funny how many of us led parallel childhoods to get to this place.

I tried Manager only and fell asleep, as I often do watching baseball on TV. But, playing is an entirely different matter, I never fall asleep.

I'm 38, so not that old for many but old for others. I would say that the thing with The Show is that there's no 8 millions of buttons, stick turning, trigger pressing, knuckles dislocating to do to enjoy the game.

In comparison, playing FIFA, NHL, NBA 2K and Madden makes me feel like a dinosaur. There's no way to play these game to the level you see in the game without having spectacular thumb speed!

At times, I just want to scream at developpers : "Hey guys, remember that there's people in here who grew up with TV's that you had to get up the floor to change channels. The first remote we had was a wired one. So give us a break for god sake!"

With The Show, it's just the opposite. Yeah, you have to have some stick skills to play the game, but nothing too complicated for basic plays that you see on tv or live. To me, that's a good reason why this game will attract more older people.

Checking in at 35 years old. The older I get, the more I like baseball. I grew up when the NES first came out and have been gaming ever since.

To me, baseball is more of an intellectual game than basketball or football, and that's why I like it more.

I also find the tenor of the baseball boards more to my liking. It seems like the general maturity level in The Show boards especially is quite high.

I think we all agree about the draw of this game. The more I play it the more I wonder why I even have a 360.

No doubt. I kept my 360 primarily for NBA 2K and the NHL games; I prefer the 360 controller to the DS3 for those games.

I grew up a big baseball fan and have always been a fan, but in my mid-20's, I didn't follow the sport all that closely. I'm 34 now and will say the past 5 years I've really found that I prefer baseball to any other sport. Living so close to Coors Field (we just recently moved about an hour away, so that hurts) helped as I was able to attend a lot of games, and being in that environment re-kindled my enthusiasm for the sport.

MLB The Show being so good didn't hurt things, either. This series has just been amazing. I can play this and NBA 2K year-round and always feel like I get an honest challenge from the CPU. As an offline-only guy, that's huge for me. I can't say that for other games and it's why 2 weeks after buying NCAA 14, I'm already tired of it. The variety just isn't there like it is in The Show.

I love baseball and I love The Show. There have been days where I get home like at noon and I just turn the PS3 on and start playing. Sometimes I play like 5-6 games in a day. Its awesome. Or even better, I'm not one of those guys that goesto the clubs every friday and saturday or partys.. I go like once every 2 months. Don't really like that environment.

So what I do when I have nothing to do on friday / saturday nights is to go to the market, buy some beer, chips and stuff and I just enter my own personal world of baseball. I even blast my music. No kidding, I have seen the sunrise while playing The Show. It's life

I do the exact same thing my man. A lot of my buddies go out on the weekends and I rarely go with them. I'm not very comfortable in that environment either. Tomorrow is my day off so I plan on tonight being a very late night for me playing The Show and hopefully winning some games in my Braves franchise.

It takes maturity to accept a challenge. You play this on anything above beginner and its difficult.

I get frustrated as hell when some junk ball pitcher is making me look silly as he paints the corners and never gets me something good. But my god does it feel great to wait and wait and wait and finally he makes a mistake and hangs a curve.

The show is challenging, but I've never been so frustrated in a sports game while playing PYS. If you play on a moderate setting, it is extremely hard to hit.

I'm a little late to this thread, but I will say out of all my friends I'm the only one who actively plays The Show. One game usually takes me just under an hour, which is probably why I'm the only one. I just love how in-depth and realistic it is, especially the create-a-player option. However, the only drawback I have is I get bored after like 2 games. I play full 9 inning games. I can't wait to get home and play The Show, but after 1 or 2 games thats it, I lose interest for the time being.

This reminds me of something I did years ago at Fenway, however this was during the MVP Baseball days. Dating back to the All-Star Baseball series, I was so accurate with keeping equipment and accessories correct in my baseball games. It carried over to MVP and now The Show.

There's a pitching change, so while thats going on I start to read a magazine my friend Josh bought. The whole time I never looked up.

Josh: Not sure who's coming in to pitch.
Me: Is it Timlin?
Josh: I can't tell.
Me: Does he have a tan glove and high socks?
Josh: Yeah.
Me: It's Timlin.

45 years old, pretty much the same resume as everybody else as far as baseball gaming goes. Earl Weaver Baseball was my favorite, played it on my old 286 pc, loved creating stadiums. As a youngster, before even the Atari 2600, my gaming was with my baseball card lineups, a rubber ball, and the side of our house.

I too bought the PS3 for the Show. It is really the only game I play and wake up each day thinking of the game. When I play the game, I get into this absolute relaxed state. Some weekends, I will sneak in a double-header, look up and see I have been playing 4 hours straight without speaking or even getting up out of my chair. I really don't like to do that very often though.

There are only three things that peeve me to no end with game, and it shows just how "baseball" I am:

1. The first baseman holding and holding the ball before throwing it around the horn. It's has become a ritual for me to harp out loud, "Come on, a little snap out there!"

2. When drawing a walk, the batter just standing there as if he can't believe he actually gets to get on base. Maybe that is the game's way to poke at me showing its disbelief since I am a hack-monster and can't draw a walk to save my soul.

3. This one is my biggest peeve, when pulling a pitcher and he tosses the ball to the manager before he reaches the mound and doesn't even wait for his butt pat. He looks back with an "F-U" stare, and the manager looks around with the same look. I would love to see a cut scene just once where players are holding the manager back from trying to wring the pitcher's neck that just showed him up, lol.

It took awhile for me to justify a PS3 purchase since it was going to be for 1 game, I don't think it will take as long for the PS4; I have high hopes for this franchise in the next generation, and I can't wait.

Haha! Every time I see that animation, I think, when does this ever happen? The pitcher would be punished by the club for insubordination.

I recall seeing it happen once in real life on a highlight many years ago. I believe the manger was Frank Robinson, can't recall what team he was managing or the pitcher. But I do remember what happened. The pitcher tossed the ball in the air and started to walk off the mound, Robinson grabbed him by the arm, swung him around and proceeded to ream him a new one.

As mentioned, 1961 would be great. 1968, the year of the pitcher, would be cool (if you like quick, low-scoring games). 1969, the year of the Amazin' Mets and expansion, would be good.

But I'd vote for 1976, for selfish reasons, being a fan of the Big Red Machine. Also the year of one-season sensation Mark "The Bird'' Fidrych.
