Well there's also a big difference between doing all the things necessary to swing at a pitch in real life vs. pushing X in a video game.

I dont think this is necessarily true to be honest. In real life, you don't do all that much to swing. It's all about the decision to swing. You don't have to think about all the things required in a swing, muscle memory does that. you just have to make the decision and everything takes care of itself. in the game, all you have to do is decide to swing as well.
