Sounds of the Show possibly dead on Next-Gen

Today Sony confirmed that the PS4 will not read Audio CD's or play .MP3 files:

With all eyes on PlayStation 4’s North American launch on November 15th, we wanted to provide definitive answers to your questions, both big and small. This list of Frequently Asked Questions is only a start, as certain details are still being finalized in preparation for launch. We will continue to update this FAQ leading up [...]

Will I be able to play MP3s on PS4?

    No.
The system can still play music, but it appears to be limited to Sony's Music Unlimited (a subscription-based service).

Unfortunately, it doesn't take much of a logic leap to figure out what this means for custom music imported into games, such as The Show and NBA 2k14.

posted in the PS4 thread hoping Russell could chime in, hopefully its something that can be patched in later if people make enough noise (although the wording is very concerning)... Weren't there a bunch of missing features when the PS3 launched?

Bad news. What's next? A new hitting timing window? Oh they already did that?

There's quite a backlash already. The internet is in a frenzy.

I can almost guarantee that if the hardware will support it, it will get patched or added to the next batch of PS4 consoles.

Microsoft's DRM reversal is excellent evidence that reasonable outcry can cause change.

                Fixed.

oh...and although I rarely use this....it doesn't make much sense on why neither console maker would think that this wouldn't be a big deal to a lot of people.
(and I know The Show devs are not happy as they specifically added SoTS for us and like the feature a lot)

Saw that earlier. That's unfortunate. Now sure why they would decide not to allow MP3's. Makes zero sense. I get they want more people to use their steaming service but eliminating the ability to save music to your hard drive is just silly. Beyond silly.

That stinks, hopefully the pull an X Box one and reverse their stance on this. I'm sure if there's enough of an outcry they will.

Sony must've found out I've been using Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" for Jim Abbott's entrance.

This is a big deal, not a deal breaker obviously but its pretty lame this is the way its going to be and the OP was right to make a thread about it.

I didn't really take it that way, it's Owl's opinion on how it affects him. To be honest, it's not even that big a deal to me - I just saw it being brought up in the PS4 thread because it IS a big deal to some people.

It's a loss to be sure, but it's absolutely not going to keep me from buying a PS4 and the Show come Spring. Obviously other people are going to feel more strongly about it than I do.

It's really disappointing and perplexing that they would completely skip out on MP3 support, but I have to be honest and say that I rarely ever actually played MP3s on my PS3 anyway.

In the age of iPods, portable/mini sound systems, and the mute button on my TV, it just isn't really necessary for my game system to play music I like, because I can already play music I like.

Plus 90% of the time, I like to stick to the music chosen by the game developer. Listening to Lil Wayne songs while controlling a rogue assassin in renaissance-era Italy is just all kinds of weird, and takes away from the concept and immersion of the game I'm playing.
