Agree 100%. They severely underestimated the popularity of games with custom soundtracks and the freedom to use music we already own. At least the wrong appears to be on its way to being righted. With all the space the PS4 had hopefully SCEA saw this as a possibility and allowed themselves the ability to slide SotS in 14.

The only reason I don't buy into the Music Unlimited conspiracy is because why would Sony reverse course now? If it was a calculated decision, don't you think Sony would have taken the time to uh... calculate?
I just think they were reacting to their mistakes with the bloaty cluster of features that was the original 700-dollar PS3. They probably decided to keep the PS4 as "pure" and cost-effective as possible, and didn't realize the MP3 stuff was as popular as it is.Comment

Sony will add mp3s back in before the game's release and I believe SOS will still be in next year's version.Comment

I just think that having to start from scratch on it now means it would be too late for '14.

Agree with the first part. Iffy on the second, especially if all the features are done and they're onto bug testing by now. Although if they anticipated this and left the SotS code in the game for later versions, then there's probably still a good chance.

MLB13 in Jan they were trying to get in the new 1st-3rd Balk Rule.
They werent able to in time, but they tried.
If they were trying to do that in Jan, Ive gotta to imagine they can do this in Nov.Comment

Re: Sounds of the Show possibly dead on Next-Gen
Just as you think they didn't expect MP3 to be such a big deal, they could have thought players would just adapt to the new model and sign up for whatever service.
Plus, Sony is also a company that may well be deep in the hole if it wasn't for PS. So I don't think they are very good at calculating or they wouldn't be in the precarious market position they are in now."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Companies do miscalculate things sometimes.

Sometimes I wish OS were like "Around The Horn" where I could hit like for every point made in a post.

I mean people complain about Facebook every single minute of every single day, but I'm pretty sure Facebook is doing just fine. I find it hard to believe a company would reverse course just off of some complaining, if they had made a serious financial decision like the one you assume they made.Comment

Re: Sounds of the Show possibly dead on Next-Gen
I agree, but the difference is, we dont pay for Facebook.
We do, however, pay for Sony.
Facebook only cares about their advertisers, which we all said no to.
Sony has to care about their customers or they go out of business.
Plus, FB had over 300M users. Sony does not.Comment

Re: Sounds of the Show possibly dead on Next-Gen
But that's my point, they haven't actually found out that people will not adapt to the new model and sign up for whatever service. If that was their intention, I think they would have waited until the actual release (of the service), and see how well it does. Why would they abandon now, before testing the waters? Just because people whined on Twitter?

It happens.
Netflix is one that comes to mind immediately. Reversed much of it's pricing over the outcry on social media. Bank of America is another, reversing it's decision to charge $5/month for debit cards."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: Sounds of the Show possibly dead on Next-Gen
They might have had indicators that pre-orders were being cancelled and sited due to this issue. Im sure companies that have troubles are still not being run by the drunk off the street without any consideration of how business works. Just because something fails doesnt mean the process, idea or belief is wrong, things just dont work sometimes...and a lot of the time things that shouldnt work do...look at the duckface..terrible idea but people do it. lolComment

Re: Sounds of the Show possibly dead on Next-Gen
The PlayStation division of Sony has been bleeding money for quite awhile. They lost $8M USD last quarter. Sony's profitable divisions are devices (semiconductors, batteries, etc), music, and financial services. While gaming looks good when compared to Pictures (-$181M) and home entertainment (-$174.1M) it's still a loss.Impact de Montréal
