    Re: ESPN License

An ESPN license is probably expensive. The Show would also be forced to bundle a Disney license with it to get it.

      Re: ESPN License

MLB Network presentation is EXACTLY what The Show needs. By far, presentation is the most lacking area of this series. And I don't mean all the cut scenes that we all skip over in-game. Pre game, post game, spring training, postseason, draft, winter meetings. There is so much that can be done.

Well no one knows what they did this year. For all we know, they could have added MLBN presentation or ESPN or FOX or Disney!

We wont know until they tell us or until the game is released.

            Re: ESPN License

I would love to see the show do what ncaa basketball did a couple years ago and have different brodcasters depending on the station and have ESPN, MLB Network, Fox, STO (for the tribe fans out there) I think it would provide so much realism I mean its hard to top the presentation the show has provided in the past
            College Sports: Ohio State

You need a lot of this to reel one of those networks into the game:

Not saying you're wrong, but it's probably nothing that SCEA can't afford.

Consider this....I am currently playing a racing game called Grid 2. Ever heard of it? Neither had I until it became free on PS+. I decided to try it, and besides being a surprisingly awesome racing game, it features a lot of ESPN integration. Signage at every race, the voiceover for the storymode mentions how ESPN is broadcasting the event, and every once and a while they do a full blown, live action ESPN segment on SportsCenter where they talk about my character racing and the racing league. Like the SportsCenter intro starts and the theme song plays.

This game's developer and publisher is Codemasters Southam, an independent developing company.

I would think if SCEA wanted ESPN or MLB Network or Fox Sports, they would be able to afford it.

Consider this: Not all sports and business deals are created equal. Some sports deals come bundled with the broadcasting deal, or come with a set, discounted price... this is especially true in cases where the broadcaster already has exclusive rights in the first place (ahem). There are even cases where the game developer ONLY needs to negotiate with one or the other (sport or broadcaster), because of the characteristics of the contract between the two (sport and broadcaster), thus saving resources.

In addition, the fee itself is (in most cases it has to be, as required by federal law) based on expected sales and profits. How much are you benefiting from using my intellectual property? If you're an independent company only expecting to sell 20 copies of the game, it's literally possible they got the ESPN deal for 20 dollars.

Excellent points. People need to stop assuming that there is a never ending stream of resources. In baseball speak, Cano is not in pinstripes because even the Yankee's resources are finite and must be managed wisely.

We're all guessing but I think he was right and just failed to ask himself if the ends justifies the means.

Cano isn't in pinstripes because while they could afford him, how would paying this one guy affect their ability to pay other players.

I see this is a similar scenario.

Would anyone here really want to sacrifice other things in the game for a license with a network?

I know I could care less, it's fine the way it is.

Every year I read complaints about colors and jerseys and stadiums and the crowd and the commentary.
And I get it, that stuff is important to some.

BUT TO MOST..... its not important because we know what happens when you have a pretty game with crappy programming. You get MLB2K! And we see where they are now!

I care more about a completely programmed game with as little bugs as possible over what color socks the Rangers wear or who is calling the game.

San Diego studios is not the only dev studio under SCEA and while The Show might be the most important franchise to us, I doubt its the most important to SCEA. They can't just go throwing money around willy nilly and even if they could, I'm sure Naughty Dog, SSM, and maybe even Sucker Punch would be higher up on the priority list. For as much critical acclaim this series gets, it doesn't rake in the dough like some of Sony's other IPs because it serves such a niche market. If The Show had global appeal and sold 10+ million copies every year then the game would probably have every brand name under the sun, but as much as we would like it to it doesn't.

Sean just hit the nail on the head.

Not to be a pain in the ***... but his point is exactly why grassroots marketing and screenshots to the masses is important. They drive the dollars - not us, the hardcore small fanbase. (It is cool they do listen to the dedicated players)
