With online leagues, you have to schedule a time, be on time and hope the other person is on time. On top of that, if something comes up, you really can't pause the game and hope the other person doesn't do the same.

When playing offline, I can start a game at 6, play a couple innings, just pause it if something comes up for an hour or so and get back to it later.

I get both sides of it, but for my schedule it isn't fair to me, or more importantly to my opponent to be nailed down to it. Stuff happens.

Some just like the flexibility of playing offline against the CPU and it's just frustrating to see that we will have to pay extra if we want to see all the new features they added this year to just have a fully functional single player franchise.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Blog - Online Franchise

I don't know what the long-term plans are for the franchise mode, but if the devs plan to move the entirely thing to online, then I think the current state is understandable.

I understand online gaming isn't particularly appealing for many users given typical experiences (lags, various access limitations, insincere gamers, etc.), but one nice thing about online is that it might make it easier to exchange feedback, because the data we save onto servers the devs can quickly access.

One thing I've been intensely curious, however, is whether online games allow cross-platform access. Like can an online franchise be shared with a gamer on PS3 and PS4? On DD? Rated online games? That's fairly critical for growing community.

Ok, am I reading this correctly....you need to have AT LEAST 6 players to do a fantasy draft for an online franchise? Why? My buddy and I want to do an Online Franchise together, but only with fantasy rosters because we don't want to be playing two franchises (Our online and our offline one) with the same team/rosters. A Fantasy draft would make it more interesting.

I'm not one that plays online franchise at all (combination of friends not having a ps4 and the fact that I only play once the wife goes to bed), so I love offline.

But, so far I like the changes that have been made for online more with trade logic, etc. If that kind of stuff is not in offline, are there limitations to online franchises if I were to have the computer control all of the other teams?

I'm wondering about things such as having to wait a certain period of time to advance days, games lagging due to connection to the server even though it's just playing a CPU opponent, or just anything else important that wouldn't be in online but would be in offline?

I absolutely love this series, had it since the beginning. I can't wait to see it. It's pretty sweet that they allow user created rosters online too...although the only one I ever use is OSFM
Youre the commish and have free reign over scheduling so set to open and play any game at any time unlike offline, no lag playing CPU/AI is same as playing offline and rosters pretty sure you can take control of any team at any time and adjust as needed or add a friend down the road

Think when they say 6 players meaning there needs to be a minimum of 6 teams in the draft whether its AI or Human controlled, so no 12345 team fantasy drafts.

Sorry to keep beating on the offline vs online feature set, but these changes that didn't have time to get into the offline franchise, will they also be out of it on the PS4 version? Or is that still up in the air?

Im sorry, but there is no way Im going to pay $400+ for a system, $60+ for a game and then ANOTHER $50 just to play it online. Thats almost $550 just to play a game online. The one and only game I play.

For that amount of money, those servers damn well better be perfect with no lag and they better start banning idiots who quit, cheat, cheese, lag, glitch and act a fool.

And we know that aint happening.

Im happy with this game the way it is and I dont need the "online experience" to enjoy it.

I agree with many people on here, I don't like how online is being giving priority over offline. If I can do an online franchise with me controlling one team and the rest being CPU, then this isn't much of an issue. Also, if I am able to do this, why are they developing online and offline when combining them is much more efficient? Seems like a waste of time, money, and resources.

I wonder what the age group breakdown is that plays this game. Baseball fans tend to be older, that's just a fact. The kids who grew up with video games are now in their 20s and 30s, so they now have full-time jobs, spouses, and children of their own. The push for online gaming (online franchises) I would think would come from people in high school and college. They have the free time and got used to online because of games like COD and Halo. It seems like those of us who work and have a family (even more so for those with kids) prefer offline because of time constraints and erratic schedules. The industry still targets, and rightfully so, the younger generation; however, there is an ever growing base of older gamers.

I may be wrong about older gamers preferring offline gaming, but it's just the vibe I'm gathering. If I have an hour to fit in a game, I don't want to chance playing someone who will cheat, glitch, and drop curse words/slurs all game. I also don't want to spend what little time I have looking for people who aren't like that. Plus with baseball predicated heavily on timing, online lag will ruin the game (even if happens only a few times during a game, that's the difference between a K and a HR).

So while I understand why there's a move in the industry to focus on online, I just think there's an ever growing base of older gamers who have the money to buy games but may not because the offline experience is forgotten about. I use gaming as time to myself to unwind, not social time. I want to relax while playing, not become more frustrated because of how my opponent is acting.

Another possible bummer for those of us that want to do a solo online franchise is saved games.

It's likely that you aren't going to be able to save multiple instances of your franchise. So if you lose a guy in free agency, or whatever, and feel like you'd like to do that stage over again you are out of luck.
