I'm now 24 and am 95 overall while batting in the .310's and chasing a 50-50 season (I'll get the steals, but need to hit more homers).

However, eventhough my overall is 95 and my adjusted overall has been 99 this whole season, my potential is still at a D. I have seen my talent performance label change, though. I've seen it go from "major league hopeful" to "career minor leaguer" to "young talent."
My potential has stayed a C even though I've absolutely tore my way through the minors and finally got the call up to the bigs. I've been waiting and my guy is only 19 so we shall see.

Maybe a silly question, but is there a way to turn on quick counts in rtts?

Quick Counts is not a feature in RTTS.

All Star Break Update (2014): Nathan Young, SP Marlins, Age 18

After tearing up AA with dominant outing after dominant outing, Nathan was called up to AAA with high hopes. His 6-0 record in AA, with a sub 1 whip and ERA (79 K's in 67 innings pitched) meant he had a huge target on his back. While his first outing ended in a 1-0 loss, due to a late inning home run he gave up on a hanging slurve, he came back strong. He went on his way to post a 6-2 record with a 1.97 ERA in 12 starts. He likely would have had a better record and more runs if the slumping New Orleans Zephyrs had given him a bit more run support. It looked like this was going to be a full season spent in AAA, working on pitches and trying to take the league lead in wins and strikeouts by the end of the season. To Nathan's surprise, he made an appearance in the AAA All-Star game! He was most likely bolstered by huge fan support, being the lone beacon of hope for the Zephyrs fans. After getting SHELLED in one inning of relief work, Nathan was ready to go back to the grind of AAA ball in New Orleans. Then something magical happened......

He got the call!!! Evidently the Marlins staff wasn't cutting the mustard up in the show, so Nathan Young was called up to bolster the rotation in the number 5 spot. This young dreamer went from a 6th round pick with D potential to a MLB starter in a few short months of hard work. Can't wait to see where he goes from here!

I added a 2 seam fastball to his arsenal to work inside on right handed hitters. I'll probably add a change up for a fifth pitch before spring training. That was he can effectively work off his 4 seam, 2 seam and even his splitter without resorting to the break of the slurve. ROY candidate? Maybe, but we'll see how his first start against the Braves goes.

Does potential change how many PE points you need to put in ratings to level up? In other words, does it take more points to level up a C potential player than it would an A potential?

Made a new left fielder, love doing the showcase and did very well good enough be the 1st round #1 pick of the Astros, I signed with the team as the top prospect , a month in doing well at AA .378 8 HR's 34 RBI's I am moved to AAA another month doing well and get called up to the Astros due to an injury but was used as a bench player but did well so I asked for a trade and was traded to the Braves ( 2014 ) which I was very happy. The Braves have alot of good outfielders so I asked to change positions to 3rd base which was granted and now I am full time at 3rd base with a good team and record. I am going to ride this for all it's worth enjoy my career there.

Re: MLB 14 The Show: Road to the Show Thread

Anyone else having trouble hitting? I raked in my two months in AA. Then batted .250ish in about five months in two seasons in AAA. My second season I was called up to play 2B for the Cardinals May 24th and hit .249 in 373 ABs as a switch hitter. I was in the 80s rating wise all year but the adjusted was I think 77 or so. Now I'm a month into my next season and hitting .233 in 90 ABs. 82/74 contact, 68/57 power, 79/69/69 vision disc clutch. 90 ovr but 82 adjusted. I had been using dynamic (I was at all-star all/most of majors career) and zone hitting, but I never aimed when hitting. My hot cold zones are identical vs left and right: cold on anything high or low, hot on anything waist high. Inside/outside doesn't seem to matter. I've been playing the show for years and I always crush high fastballs when I time it well, but this year I pop up anything high in the zone no matter how well it's timed. In the last few games I turned the difficulty down to rookie and switched from zone to timing and it hasn't helped at all... If anyone has some advice it would be greatly appreciated.

This happens EVERY time the pitcher comes up with runners on. If the bases are empty, he'll swing the bat no problem. But with people on, he won't attempt to bunt or move the bat off his shoulders.

For those of you with RTTS pitchers, have you noticed anything like this?

My guy plays for the marlins and consistently bats 8th in the order. This happens every time I get on base. The pitcher doesn't swing, bunt or anything.

I bet it's a glitch and something that can be reported and hopefully patched as well!

I'll just re-post my PM response to cardinalbird, didn't know he asked here too:

You'd have to ask Brian_SCEA if it's always been like that, that's not something I can answer. I can say it's been at least since these strategy guides were introduced - something like '10 or '11. It was definitely like that in '13.

What happens is that when you're in AA you're playing one level lower than the stated difficulty, in AAA it's your selected difficulty, and MLB is one level higher. So if you're on HOF and playing in the majors, you're really on Legend. As it states in the guide it caps out between Rookie and Legend, so if you play on Legend and make it to MLB, it'll still be Legend.

If you want to play on HOF for the entire career, then you'd want to do AA on Leg and MLB on All-Star.

There is actual proof of this working within the game and not just in words in the strategy guide, and it's even easier to prove with the new Player Lock feature which functions just like RTTS.

Basically, if a player with the exact same ratings as a AA RTTS guy plays in a regular game (and faces the same pitcher), the RTTS guy will have a larger PCI (when it's turned on) than the non-RTTS one. That's because the the non-RTTS guy is on the stated difficulty, while the RTTS guy is one level lower than stated.

That's confusing as hell, but this is much simpler - as I mentioned, '14's Player Lock really helps to demonstrate this since you can turn it off (but not back on) mid-game. If you start an MLB-level game with player lock on at All-star difficulty, and then turn it off during his at-bat by switching teams and switching back, the PCI will get larger for that player (because you're going from RTTS MLB Level - HOF, to Regular Difficulty - AllStar).

Hope that helps explain it without melting your brain - last year I actually did test this out by creating a player at the same ratings as a AA RTTS guy. It's pretty easy for me to screenshot and show proof of it if you really want me to.

Potential does not influence how many training points you need to level an attribute. The level of the attribute determines how many points you need to level said attribute, and I believe not every attribute takes the same number of training points to level.

My very first the show game, really enjoying this mode.

3B drafted in the 2nd round by the Angels and was absolutely sucking in the 20 games or so at AA. Moved me down the batting order from often the 5 spot to 7th and 8th, rightfully so.
Finally it all clicked, was getting more focused on my strikezone and waited for pitches in my sweetspot area. Finished up the season demolishing AA pitching with a .319 BA, almost 40 HRs and 100+ RBI. My dynamic hitting difficulty also skyrocketed of course from the lowest rookie setting with a bunch to ---- or Allstar+ with +++ progression.

Now in my second season it skipped AAA al together and been riding the bench for the Angels. Was barely getting any points to rank up my guy. Got the occasional at bat as a pinch hitter or even got in as a pinch runner, but it was frustrating. Still managed to hit .400 + in my 20 ABs or so, ha.

Little bit later in the season got a message saying that Freese was Traded for a SP. So now there was only one other guy front of me that I had to take care of.

Now in the middle of August with Cortez or whatever his name is, hitting under .250 and me still ripping through every pitch thrown at me as a pinch hitter, I actually got a couple of starts in a row. It's beautiful sight to behold: 3.Trout, 4.Hamilton, 5.Pujols and then batting 6th, my guy.

What I didn't like, though, is that whenever you get in as a pinch hitter and you have a great AB or hit a home run in the 8th or 9th to take the lead or tie the game or whatever, it's the same amount of points as you would get in a 7-0 rout in the 2nd inning against the starting pitcher with low confidence. The importance of that single AB against often a great closer should definitely get you more points if you manage to hit one out the park or so...At least, that's my opinion.

Re: MLB 14 The Show: Road to the Show Thread

I created myself as a Catcher and couldn't be happier with this years Edition. Graphics (lighting?) improved, crowd improved (clones are less visible, Audio), Overall atmosphere improved! RTTS is an absolute blast. Since it is possible to take your savegames to future releases, i'm playing everything in Result Play and i'm enjoying that the broadcast mode is back.

I play with manual catch on and there is a problem with it when playing as a Catcher:

When fielding a Bunt or catching a flyball, everything works as it should. But when the CPU throws the ball to me, I don't get a ball halo and my player catches the throw automatic like when you turn of the manual catch feature! Last year I enjoyed playing at 1B receiving throws manually. Anyone else with this problem?

                              Second minor problem:
is there no throwing meter for throwing to 2nd/3rd on steal attempts. Is the CS just stat based with Button Accuracy?

                              Third minor problem:
when playing in result play mode you have to catch the last pitch of every at bat without calling it. So you practically don't know what type of pitch is thrown in which spot. You have to react to the black pitch marker which leads to overreactions and droped pitches. Catching called pitches is a lot easier and more life like.

For those who play with manual catch on, how do you catch popups as an infielder? The camera just looks down on me and i can not see the ball or the ball halo. Is there a button for a different view? It was the same last year when I played at 1B. All you can do is place yourself under the ball and wait until the player raises his glove and do a reaction test on L2.

Overall the best game ever with RTTS being the best mode.

                              Congrats SCEA

They still haven't fixed the way the sim engine handles closers. I made a CP to go along with my hitter, but I don't know if I want to stick with it if I'm going to keep getting constant 1 or 2 out saves.
