Re: MLB 14 The Show: Road to the Show Thread
Has anyone noticed that, as a switch hitter, you happen to hit better against a certain handed pitcher despite what your attributes might say?
I'm 38 games into my career, currently in AAA (called up after one game at AA thanks to an injury), and despite spending more training points on attributes against right handers, I'm hitting almost 100 points higher against lefties than I am against righties, .356 vs .257. Could be I just do a much better job against lefties and/or I've faced more right handers, but that's quite a split. Made me wonder if things might be reversed, or if the attributes list is actually as a left/right handed batter and not vs the respective pitching hand.
That question aside, I'm having a blast with RTTS so far. Never really enjoyed it in previous games, but not having to deal with the various goals makes things much more enjoyable.Comment

Re: MLB 14 The Show: Road to the Show Thread
My hard throwing SP was drafted 1st round 1st ovr by the Astros after being drafted 1st round 6th(?) overall by the Mariners. Went back to junior college for a year because I didnt wanna go to Seattle.
I dont know about you guys but I REALLY had to up the difficulty. On default I gave up 3 hits and 0 runs over the 9 innings of the showcase and in my 4th game in AA Corpus Christi I threw a no hitter.
Also on a side not, anyone know how to add more pitches? It doesnt have the option in training, or at least I didnt see it.NFL - Denver Broncos

Re: MLB 14 The Show: Road to the Show Thread
Never remember this being the case in the past for me, but hey, things change I guess.
Although I think I made it up to Rookie+ last night, and almost progressed far enough to hit veteran.
I'll put it this way, I actually did better my first three showcase games than I did in the last six I played. Went from the #1 pick in the fourth round (Boo Astros), to the 5th round I think it was after my three years in college and three more showcase games, and then to I believe the 10th pick in the fourth round after my senior year and last three showcase games.Comment

Re: MLB 14 The Show: Road to the Show Thread
Update #3: Pakari Pogba, OF
I really struggled during my 1st MLB season (the 2016 season). Got demoted back to the bench and floated around the .195-.200 mark up until August. I was growing frustrated because I was only getting pinch hits and lack of training points... which means my stats dropped. In September, I turned off Guess Pitch and I heated up doubling my HR and RBI output in that month alone, but they still wouldn't start me. Finished the year strong with .234 avg - 8 hr - 22 rbi - 47 steals w/ 6 dbls and 12 trips (NL leader). We only won 52 games.
I didn't want to stay with the Phillies, but I want to keep this as real as possible so I will keep signing with them until I can leave as a UFA, get DFA, or a trade. Re-signed for 2 yr @ 1,100,000.
They acquired a new RF, so I started off on the bench. This pissed me off because I had a good spring and ended the year hot, so I've been demanding a trade every single chance I get. I eventually won the starting LF gig (for now) and have been heating up: .266 avg - 11 hr - 36 rbi - 13 steals w/10 dbl and 1 trip in 169 ab. It's now June and they still haven't "found the right deal." I'm just not happy with the Phillies. I didn't want to demand a trade being only 21 because you don't hear that happen all that often, but not getting at bats or not getting put back in AAA to get at bat's could ruin my RTTS.
EDIT: They finally trade me! Now the starting LF for the AL East leading Baltimore Orioles! I can dig it.Last edited by DrPhibes; 04-06-2014, 05:00 PM.Comment

Postseason Update (or lack of postseason): Stanley Sutton, 3B, Mariners
After getting called up in June, Stanley Sutton spent the rest of the 2015 season starting at 3rd for the Mariners. After putting up good power numbers, despite a .240 average, big improvements were expected for the second half of the season. Unfortunately, that would not be the case. His bat was so damn cold he might as well have been swinging an icicle at the plate. Scattering a few multi hit games in between a string of 0-4 and 1-5 showings, the nerves were really taking their toll. I'm not going to lie, I'm terrible at picking up pitches right now and it shows in how he's hitting. Serious BP regarding plate discipline needs to happen. However, these small flashes allowed Sutton to enter into the talks for AL ROY with then heavy power line of .221 BA / 20 HR / 56 RBI and another 26 extra base hits (24 doubles and 2 triples). Almost half of his 92 hits went for extra bases. Imagine if I could get his average above .300. The M's ended up at .500, finishing 81-81, which is way better than expected but not good enough for the playoffs by any means. Onto the offseason!
I wasn't sure how this was going to go and I would hate to sign a contract as a AAA starter because of the way I handled the call up. However, I was luckily surprised with a 1 year/$500K deal as the MLB starter at 3rd. I haggled a little bit but only got $540K. Not really one to complain after the showing I had. Time to start spring training and make myself a little better.
Current Stats for 2016 Spring Training (Age 24)
Overall: 85
Contact R/L: 69/70 (I'll probably try and keep these even for as long as I can)
Power R/L: 71/71 (same plan as contact, but it's cheaper to add power)
Plate Vision: 83 (when the yellow arrow hits, bump this up a level [maintenance])
Plate Discipline: 65 (get to 70 and then do the same as vision)
Batting Clutch: 66 (clutch is one of the cheaper offensive stats, trying to level this one two points at a time to max)
Fileding: 65 (maintenance)
Reaction: 55 (the fielding stats are good enough for a .980+ fielding percentage)
Arm Strength: 72 (maintenance)
Arm Accuracy: 70 (maintenance)
Speed: 60 (maintenance)
Stealing: 32 (maintenance)
BR Aggressiveness: 47 (maintenance)
Durability: 71 (maintenance)
That's the plan, but lets see how it pans out.Comment

Re: MLB 14 The Show: Road to the Show Thread
Just finished AA allstar game. Was the top vote getter for all 1B. Hoping to hit 100+ RBI this season. Would love to be on the September call up list but the AAA 1B is having a fantastic year.

Re: MLB 14 The Show: Road to the Show Thread
I'm in the 2015 season. Hit .330 with 13 hr and 87 RBI with AA Springfield and Bowie. Now through April I'm launching the ball. 13 hr 40 RBI while batting .430 on All star. Rated 84 ovr, the Orioles will not call me up even to AAA. The next highest Left Fielder is Riemold who is a 75 ovr. O well. Just have to keep hitting. Hoping maybe for the AA-MLB call up soon.NCAA: Missouri Tigers

Re: MLB 14 The Show: Road to the Show Thread
I had an excellent showcase, with two very good games followed by a decent third. Got myself drafted 9th overall to the Jays, with a B potential and 56 OA rating.
Named the starter at CF. Start my first game in AA, and am promptly injured in my first place appearance.
I'm only out for one game and but apparently missing one game was enough to get me demoted to bench warmer... permanently.
I've since played 3 games in 3 months, going 0-4, 0-4, and 4-5 with two doubles and a SB.
Meanwhile the AA starter is boasting a magnificent .256 OBP%
Frustrating. They think highly enough of me to draft me 9th overall, but don't think enough of me to ever let me play any games.
That aside, I'm loving RTTS mode this year. FAR fewer points available which makes it a great deal harder to improve but I'm alright with that. Removing the advancement goals, and adding the showcase games and the draft is a definite improvement. The player comparison screen is a nice addition.
I'm glad to see the return of the commentary as well.
It's all very enjoyable, and I hope they continue adding to RTTS in future versions.
Now if only the Jays would deign to let me play occasionally...Comment

Update #4 - SS, Chad Abercrombie
The dynamic is finally on Hall of Fame. Things are challenging, but nothing that I can't handle. Triple A is doing me justice. I'm being patient, jumping on the right pitches, and staying productive.
Stats so far: 14 games, .404 AVG, 4 HR, 14 RBI, 9 SBs.
Boy am I happy! I'm killing it up here. My batting stats are 50 across the board and it's showing.
Contact - 50
Power - 50 (vs R it's 51)
Vision - 70
Clutch - 56
Everything else is 50. Damn this feels good. I've grown an attachment to Chad. This is the first time I've gotten really into RTTS and I'm loving it.
I'm currently the best SS in my organization and just waiting for a call up. No rush, though. I don't mind staying in the minors for a couple of years, building up my player.
I wish I had a lot more to say on this update, but the truth is...I'm just tearing it up right now. As far as training, focus is all on my fielding/baserunning attributes right now. I want to see low to mid 70s on everything before moving back to my batting attributes.Comment
