Re: MLB 14 The Show: Road to the Show Thread

After sulking over a Minor League contract offer in the offseason, Rory McMahon returns for his second season to the shock of a lifetime -- a spot on the Atlanta Braves bench. Join McMahon as the series shifts to a first-person perspective, narrated by the red-headed Irishman himself.

18 and got drafted by the Braves my favorite team. I thought the fastest way to the show is by playing 2B for the braves! Sorry Uggla. What my plan was to play double A for a season then triple A for season then get promoted. Was hitting .400 and was the leader in votes for the double A all-star game. After the all-star game I get promoted straight to braves. They make me the leadoff hitter and starter at 2B! Sounds great but I got promoted way to soon and every game I go 1-5 or 0-4. Finish the season hitting .125. What do you have to do to get demoted back to minors? Spring training of year two is starting and I'm still starting and leading off.

Re: MLB 14 The Show: Road to the Show Thread

Atlanta Braves slugger Rory McMahon is trying to make the most of every at-bat as a pinch hitter off the bench in the Major Leagues. Limited chances mean less opportunity to improve his skills defensively, but the first career homerun (or two?!) at the Big League level should help his progress.

Re: MLB 14 The Show: Road to the Show Thread

Reality has set in for Rory McMahon who has realized his best way to solidify a spot with the Braves into the future is to switch from first base to third. Limited appearances as a pinch hitter are making it difficult to improve his defensive skills so patience is wearing thin, but spirits are high as the red-headed slugging Irishman continues his journey to be the greatest home run hitter in Major League history.

              Closing pitcher question,

I want to create a closer who pitches to contact. Strikeouts are nice but I;d rather throw 1 pitch than play footsy for 6 pitches, What are the best pitches for lots of ground balls/fly balls that go nowhere?

I would go with a sinker, cutter, change up combination. The Sinker will force grounders, cutter will jam hitters, and the change up will keep them off balance

Next question...When creating my pitcher... What is makeup? I see no explanation in game or in the manual.

Re: MLB 14 The Show: Road to the Show Thread

So it's been a busy week off the field, what with taking the missus to Cambridge, Arsenal's last home game of the season and finding some quality Malaysian food. But there is always some time to play a bit of RTTS. Now I've found some time to write an update. It's fair to say things are progressing in an unexpected fashion...

Here are links to the previous posts:
Part 1: Give me my Sushi, of the International Region
Part 2: 74 walks in the hills of Comptacoma
Part 3: So hot right now
Part 4: Chris Dickinson, how's your average?
Part 5: The man from Iran...It's Julio Teheran!

So where were we? Ah yes, Around the All-Star break of the 2016 season. To be honest it was a fairly nondescript second half to the season for the Braves and Oliver Thornton. At the end of the regular season he sits in his rocking chair on the balcony of his south-side Atlanta rental watching the bullets fly by reflecting on what has been a good first season and how far he has come. Lets not forget I was suffering some serious physical ******ation during the "Showcase" and was happy to get drafted in the fourth round.

While sat in the dugout watching Justin Upton crush another Home Run, I did invite Julio Teheran over. He seems to think I'm an idiot. Not really sure what his beef is. He said he couldn't make it since it was Ramadan. I pointed out that I now know he is not Iranian, and that I wasn't aware of a large Muslim community in Colombia. He did not reply. Nevertheless, I took it he was declining my invite. I went on to mention Carlos Velderrama and Pablo Escobar but it didn't seem to help. After a short pause for thought I blurted out "Shakira has the best *** I've ever seen" but my mouth a was full of spit, since that is what you do in the dugout, which meant my ability to enunciate was somewhat diminished and it sounded like I was having a stroke "Shziz az u gzeaz thazz". The perception of potential physical malfunction was only heightened when I noticed Julio had departed before my outburst and was currently on the mound, the rest of the team were in the field. Freddie Freeman laughed at me as I made my way to the outfield, the opposing batter looking at me bewildered. I asked Freddie to come over too, but he said he had a gopher problem.

The regular season finished and the Braves made the playoffs with plenty of time to spare racking up 105 wins. The Washington Nationals were the second place team in the NL East.It was a close run affair. They finished 27 games back with a 78 win record. You might notice that they had a losing record. That's right, the Braves were the only team with a winning record in their division. High quality stuff.

The man from Iran took home the Cy Young. But really any of the top three pitchers in the rotation had a good shot.

I finished second in the race for NL rookie of the year after a strong second half. I managed to pull my batting average up to .282 by the end of the regular season and finished with 21 home runs. My RBI figures are what seem to have been lacking though. Second place is not bad, I wouldn't have expected to be in the race after my first few weeks in the majors.

In the playoffs the Braves met the wild card winning San Francisco Giants in the first round. The series was won 3-2 after going behind twice in the series. The final games was a brutal 9-1 shellacking though. I had a poor series with the exception of one game. In four of the games I had zero hits. In the other I hit two homers and had six RBIs.

Next up were the Dodgers. For my money the only team who compares to the Braves on paper. This bitch went to seven games. I had a truly appalling series. I simply cannot hit Clayton Kershaw, who pitched games 1 and 4. I had trouble with Zach Greinke too, who also pitched two games. We were behind in the series 2-0 after those two opened with back to back complete game shut-outs. In game 7 though we turned it around winning 4-2 in game seven to return to the WORLD SERIES! I seem incapable of not getting to the championship game for whatever league I am playing in.

The 2016 World Series was a repeat of the 2015 game. Atlanta Braves take on the Tampa Bay Rays. I must admit I was somewhat dreading it. My playoff average was sitting below .200 and aside from my one great game I had been terrible. But in this series I turned things around. Even against two lefties like Price and Moore. In fairness Price had my number in game one, but was inexplicably removed early. I then took their bullpen to town with a homer run and a double in the late innings. The Braves were on a roll, after being swept last year they were able to flip it on it's head this year and steam-roll Tampa with a 4-0 WORLD SERIES win. In my rookie campaign I am a world champion!!! Wow! How do you top that?? I don't think you can. There was a nice bit of icing on that cake too as I won World Series MVP too! In the final series I hit over .500 with two home runs and seven RBIs. Nice!

In the summer I signed a new deal for just shy of $600k. I looked forward to a new campaign with the Braves. I feel like I've earned some respect from my teammates now.

We're about 60 or so games into the season now. It's been quite a year for Oliver Thornton, thus far in 2017. He is hitting... wait for it... .372!!!! Leading the NL in average. With 15 Homer Runs (5th in the NL). And 55 RBIs!!!!! (1st in MLB) Not to mention 10 steals (never forget the steals). I also lead the league in triples (very important). I am leading the race for NL MVP too!!! This is crazy. SO HOT RIGHT NOW!

The Braves are just over .500 and in a good race with the Nationals. The team ERA is still in the top 5 in baseball. Although, the man from Iran has hit a bit of a slump with his ERA up above 4. However, Medlen is having a great year with his ERA below 2.

Oliver Thornton has evolved into a very solid player. 86 overall. 87 power vs RHP. 87 plate discipline and 85 plate vision. Those two seem to have made a big difference to my hitting. Still hate facing lefties though.

The story does not end there though. Last night a whole bunch of stuff happened. and to be honest it has left me feeling somewhat disillusioned. Every player faces challenges. But this hit me like Michael Oher's ***. From the blind side and it stinks.

First off we complete a road series against Miami. I'm killing it. If anything I am getting better. I recently recovered from a broken nose, which I was able to play through and I've hit even better since then. One of the guys I always struggled with was Jose Fernandez. Not today. 4 for 4. 1 homer run. 5 RBIS. I'm looking like I might have a chance to win the triple crown. I was slow out of the gate with Home Runs but rcently the pace has picked up massively.

Then we play the series I have been waiting for. Each year I look forward to this one. On the road against the Brewers. I am rested the first game. Then the second. Then the third. Ok... Not happy but maybe I'm not being a team player.

I have a feeling something is off though.

Next series. The Cubs at Turner Field. Not starting. Pinch hit in the 9th. Same deal in game two. Then again in game 3. I have a chat to "coach" or Old, bald, dickhead as I will know him hence. He say's I'm playing well and will be back in the lineup. No **** Sherlock I am the leading MVP candidate. Be a pro. be a pro. I'm back in the lineup against the Mets. FOR ONE GAME. Then back to pinch hit duty for the next four. What the ****!!!

I check the roster. I appear to have been benched to move some kid "Telaro", or something like that, in RF. He's young and 72 overall with B potential. Heyward moves back to CF and Upton plays left. I'm out of the team! What the hell!!! This goes on for a couple more series. I keep asking the coach, he keeps telling me how awesome I am and then gives me 1 game.

                    Then it happens.

                    I am traded.

                    Again.

                    FFS!!!!!!

                    To the Cincinnati Reds.

After the initial shock, I think this might not be so bad. I love the way their ballpark looks. They got rid of that racisty bint. They have a true "hitters park". Love the unis. Hitting with Votto and Bruce could work. I am disappointed but it could be ok.

Except it's not. I do not start. Billy "Forrest Gump" Hamilton starts in CF. That boy sure can run but he can barely hold a bat... this is depressing.

At this point I have switched off the PS4. It's so frustrating having such a strong year and it all going wrong with no rational explanation.

Testing times for Oliver Thornton, Centre Fielder, of the International region.

Rory McMahon has continued to impress as a pinch hitter for the Atlanta Braves organization. His recent switch to third base has him hungry for more playing time and his youthful impatience may soon get the best of him. Will Freddie Gonzalez and the Braves organization grant McMahon's wish for more playing time?

Since switching to third base Rory McMahon has persistently pursued manager Freddie Gonzalez for more playing time. Chris Johnson has a strong grip on the Atlanta Braves starting spot at the hot corner and McMahon's frustration over the situation is causing his power numbers to dip.

After weeks of spot starts and pinch hit appearances, Rory McMahon's future is shifted with news of a surprise trade by the Atlanta Braves. Did Freddie Gonzalez finally get tired of McMahon constantly asking for playing time and ship him out? Or did the Braves move other pieces to give the slugging Irishman an everyday job?

So, with that said does anyone have any tips or anything at all that make the Road to The Show more fun and any certain difficulty that is good to play on because I've tried sliders from Operationsports and it's just been so difficult so someone give me some tips it'd be greatly appreciated.

Hey guys I need some help. In my rtts I was tearing it up in aa, batted .412 in about 50 games on veteran difficulty and pure analog hitting. I'm called up to the mlb and hitting is different. A pitch right down the middle, I'll pop up or foul off, and a hard outside fastball I knock down the line in AA, I'm now just whiffing on. I know the pitching is better at higher level but batting .224 in the same amount of games is crazy. My contact is 70 right 69 left ,58 power both, with 75 plate vision. If you guys have any tips or info on attribute I should increase let me know.

It's likely due to the higher attributes of MLB pitchers. I feel like the programming logic takes into account things like their K/9 , H/9, HR/9, etc. and it impacts the quality of your hit. Even if you make perfect contact the ball doesn't seem to react the same off the bat when thrown by a lesser-quality pitcher. That's just an observation though, not backed by any definitive knowledge.
