Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

Things havent gotten any better, as I just got swept by the Mets, thanks to JJ "Freaken" Hoover doing what he does best which is giving up Hr's, as he served up one for David Wright to win the final game of the series. Hard to believe Hoover before this year had been one of the better relievers in all of baseball, and now he might be the worst in all of baseball. Then went to St Louis and lost that game as the bullpen blew another game. Runs are still very had to come by, but I have Mez back now and he had a solid 1st game back, but it wasnt enough. Im now 1-6 to start the season

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

So far its been a rough go to start the season for my Reds, as I now stand 3-10. Bullpen has been awful with Hoover, Lecure and Broxton all blowing games late for me. I cant wait to get Chapman back off the DL, but the way my offense is swinging it,he wont get many chances to save game cause I hardly ever have the lead, lol. Thru the 1st 13 games the team is batting .216, leading the league in K's and last in just about every offensive categeory or near the bottom.

Both the Bats and Blue Wahoos arent doing a lot better as they both stand 5-7, but both have won managed to win their last 3 games.

So far I have played every game of all my teams, as I figured I needed the practice. I hit pretty well during Spring Training and even led the league in Hr's, but once the season started I have wnet very cold, and seems all my players have just warning track power.

Thinking I need to go back to AS as HOF is just giving me all kinds of issues and thats with pitch speed at 0 and contact and timing at 10 even. I know most of it is because my reaction time is just to slow with all the medication the Dr has me on, but heck I have been drugged up for several months now, and I havent ever had this difficutl of a time offensively. This is the worst start to a season in MLBTS I have ever had as I have been playing since 09, so its really getting frustrating.

        (39-50, 5th NL West, 13 GB)

        2014 Mid-Season Stats

        Offensive Stats

The offense hasn't been horrible with seven regulars hitting at least 9 HR's by mid-season. Alonso and Venable have been doing the heavy lifting, providing consistent production all season. Gyorko was beginning to bust out a bit before going down with an injury that may be season-ending. Quentin, Headley, and Smith have been showing some good pop but haven't been hitting for a very high average. Overall, the offense has been better than expected but still lacks consistency.

        Pitching Stats

The starting pitching has been uneven for most of the season. Cashner got off to a slow start before righting the ship and pitching more like an ace. Kennedy has been the best performer so far, giving the team a good chance to win in most of his starts. Johnson and Ross both flash good stuff but have trouble reining it in at times, both have been rather boom or bust. Stults has been quiet but fairly effective overall. The bullpen has had its share of meltdowns, in particular Huston Street in the first month of the season. He's actually rebounded quite well and has been light's out since, but several possible wins were squandered in April when he couldn't hold onto a lead. Benoit has been the go-to guy in high leverage situations and has responded well, while Roach has been solid as the multi-inning option. The rest have been serviceable, but the team may look to upgrade this unit.

        Minor League Update
        1B/OF Tommy Medica (AAA) - .269/.345/.427, 25 2B, 8 HR
        1B/OF Kyle Blanks (AAA) - .245/.319/.407, 11 HR
        SS Jace Peterson (AA) - .279/.329/.419, 20 2B, 6 HR, 9 SB
        C Austin Hedges (AA) - .265/.328/.392, 7 HR
        RF Rymer Liriano (AA) - .324/.392/.486 in 173 AB, 13 2B, 5 HR, 6 SB
        SP Robbie Erlin (AAA) - 7-6, 3.23 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, 114.3 IP
        RP Kevin Quackenbush (AAA) - 0-1, 2.25 ERA, 23/27 SV, 1.21 WHIP
SP Odrisamer Despaigne - 1-3, 7.11 ERA, 31.6 IP in AAA, 9 scoreless IP in AA
        SP Matt Wisler (AA) - 8-5, 3.02 ERA, 3.1 K/BB
SP Max Fried (AA) - 8-6, 3.80 ERA, 1.45 WHIP
        SP Burch Smith (AA) - 5-5, 3.71 ERA, 10.6 K/9
SP Zach Eflin (AA) - 5-5, 3.94 ERA, 1.35 WHIP
        SP Keyvius Sampson (AA) - 2-8, 4.50 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, 11.4 K/9

Liriano has been the standout on offense, tearing up AA pitching before losing over a month to injury. Hedges has been working to put concerns about his offense to rest, hitting well in AA while maintaining his impressive defensive skills behind the plate. Peterson is probably the third most impressive hitting prospect, which says quite a bit about the state of the Padres' farm system. Medica and Blanks have both played well enough that they should get an opportunity to compete for a spot in the big leagues next spring.

The strength of this system is its pitching. Erlin has been having no trouble with AAA and has put himself in line for a promotion, as has Quackenbush. The entire rotation in AA has impressed to some degree and the future looks pretty bright for San Diego in that respect. A draft focused on mostly pitching prospects only augments an already impressive statement so the Padres should have no shortage of quality arms coming through their system.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

5-13 now after taking 2 of 3 vs the North Side Loser Cubs, but it wasnt easy thanks to the Bullpen. Should have swept them but thanks to JJ Hoover once again that didnt happen. Actually none of my Bullpen, not even Broxton has pitched well so far, and Lecure actually has the highest ERA of them all. Im definitely looking forward to the day I get Chapman back, although as bad as my offense is he might not have to many games to save the way its been going.

I did lower the difficulty back down to all star for the past 4 games now, and bump up my contact and timing sliders, but so far thats not made much difference. Thought about trying dynamic difficulty but I dont really want to see pitchers throwing the ball right down the plate, as I like realistic stats and I wont get that with walks if I do that, so I will just continue on and hope things get better.

I know my horrible offense is mostly because of all the pain meds Im on, and the fact that the Reds offense is horrible IRL dont help on top of that either, lol. Oddly enough though I hit fairly well during Spring Training, and even led baseball in Team Hr's, so not sure why Ive struggled so much now its regular season. Only the Giants have less Hr's than I do.

Another odd thing is I lowered Votto down since he has had such a bad season IRL, yet he is batting around .360 for me, and in years past with Votto rated high I typically struggled with him, so not sure why with lowering him down why Im doing so well with him this year

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

What a game I played last night. I wasn't going to play but decided to fire the PS3 up anyway. I have a franchise as the Cubs. We finished 2014 10 games under .500. Baez won ROY hitting over 22 hrs. We are at the end of May 2015, 5.5 games behind Pitt.
We were in Miami playing the 3rd game of the series. We jumped out to an early lead. Castro and Soler hit back to back HRs. Jacob Turner was on the mound and had a perfect game going through 5. I have been playing with QC and still getting use to it. In the 6th with 1 out, the counts 3-2 and the ump calls ball 4 on a border line fastball. There goes the perfect game. Next batter hits into a double play. Bottom of the 8th. 1st batter strikes out. 2nd batter hits a dribbler up the 1st base line, Turner scoops it up in plenty of time to make the play. Instead as I am hitting the buttons to throw to 1st, Turner turns towards home plate, then throws to first. The runner is safe. It was called an error at least.
Ever since around 2004 I have been playing baseball games, I have never thrown a perfect game or no hitter. I have been close a handful of times. 2 outs in the 9th and they get a hit. I never could get that final out.
Well bottom of the 9th comes around. Turner has no energy left but he is not coming out of the game. 1st batter walks. 2nd batter strikes out. 3rd batter walks. 4th batter hits a long fly ball to LF at the wall. The runner tags and takes 3rd. Now here comes Stanton who can win the game. 2 on and 2 out. the count is a 2-2. I throw a slider down and away. Stanton hits a ground ball to Baez at 2nd. Baez throws him out easily. 1st no hitter thrown!

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

With 2 games remaining in April I sit at 9-17 and in the cellar of the NLC. Starting pitching just like IRL is good but the bullpen and offense is absolutely horrible. I have been playing better lately, but cant really string together any wins at this point, and was hoping with the North Side Losers coming to town I could get out of the cellar, but the bullpen blew a 4-1 lead for Cueto and we lost the 1st of 3 to the Cubs.

Votto is the only 1 who is hitting above .300 for me and he is in the top 5 in batting avg. Frazier is batting around .290 and Pena is around .280 but no one else is hitting worth a darn. Phillips,Hamilton,Cozart,Mezoraco, are all batting under .200, and Bruce is around .220, but up until about a week ago Bruce was under .200 as well.

Some oddities the 1st month of the season sees the Phillies tied with the Nats for 1st in the NLEast, and the Rangers leading the ALWest. The Orioles are struggling and in the cellar and the Giants have had their struggles and sit 4th in the NLWest. I expected since I play with RL injuries that the Rangers would definitely suck like they have IRL, but some how have managed.

Other than some teams not playing like their RL teams are the Team Stats in my Franchise are looking spot on with using the Hybrid Roster with some tweaking from me with speed of players which I dont like how they come to that with the Hybrid set. I also tweak some players up that are having break out years IRL. Although I have found with MLBTS game engine you can bump a guy up ratings wise but that dont mean it will have him do well in your chise, just like lowering a guy down dont mean he will have a bad year in your chise. Cause I have dropped Votto down yet he still is my best hitter and top 5 in most offensive stats, and even leading my team in HR's although he only has I think 3 HR's for me, but as a team I think I only have 13 Hrs so far the 1st month. Realy have had a power outage since the season started, yet during spring training the team was 1st in Hr's.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

Once again I have restarted my franchise Just wasnt happy with how my team stats were doing, I can handle losing but I would like to have my stats atleast close to real life. Plus I ws seeing way to many complete games by starting pitching, and a few relievers wer appearing in too many games. So Im going to have to tweak some stamina, even though I use the Hybrid set with lower stamina for starters. Plus when I sim the other games of teams I set hook at 10 and stamian for starters at 0-1, while RP'ers are at 1. So mot sure why I was getting odd results.

To start Spring Training Im 2-1 now with my Reds. I thought about just skipping ST'ing, but I actually enjoy playing it, and Im using that time to tweak the rosters a little better while I play the games. Its going kind of slow since the devs screwed ST'ing up and team dont sub out position players so I play the 1st game of the season for teams and sub out for them, usually play half of those games until all subs are in then I sim the rest of the way. Then after that I adjust lineups daily so players dont get too many at bats during Spring. Im very OCD about stats Its not really too bad other thanbeing time consuming, but really wish they wouldnt have screwed this up, although I would still adjust lineups and rotations thruot spring for team so all players get a good amount of time played.

I figure since I wont buy be buying MLBTS15 unless someting happens and finances get better to where I can get a PS4, which I dont see happening, so 14 will be my game for probably a few years. So I have plenty of time to get deep into my chise. Main reason I started over other than I didnt like some of the stats was to get in some players that werent in the roster.

ON a side note this place seems dead with old gen, surprised there is no more activity than there is around here, usually people are keeping up wiuth their chise even thruout the winter here. Maybe Im 1 of only a hadful that hasnt got a PS4,lol.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

Even though its Spring Training I had a exciting game against the Rockies. Going into the bottom of the 9th my pitchers had combined for a 3 hit shutout while the Rockies pitching staff had held me to no runs on only 2 hits. Roger Bernadina in the bottom of the 9th hit a walk off HR to win the game for me 1-0. Im now 3-1 this spring.

Around the league the Tigers have gotten off to a rough start and are 0-3. The North Side Loser Cubs are 3-0 to start spring training which pisses me off. I guess I need to edit some of their ratings down, lol. The Phillies have also gotten off to a good start this spring.

Up next I play the Mariners, with Alfredo Simon getting his 1st start of the Spring while the Mariners counter with Chris Young.

Thru the 1st 4 games no one is really standing out for me offensively. Pitching has been very good thru the 1st 4 games, leading the league in K's and ERA as of now. We have walked a few guys but been able to work out of jams.

Re: MLB 14 The Show Franchise Progress

7-3 now in Spring Training after shutting out the North Side Losers. My hitting has really taken off these last few games. Think Im going to bump up to the HOF and see how I do. The last time I did that I really struggled and 1 reason why I ended up starting over. Wanted to wait till I got done playing the Cubs before bumping it up, as I cant stand to lose to them, so didnt want to take any chances and I left it on All Star.

If moving up to HOF this time causes me to struggle unrealistic Im going to have to just adjust sliders for AS to make it harder. I pitch really well on AS and I do OK on HOF, but my hitting really takes a hit, as does my K's for my pitchers, I tend to keep ERA realistic on HOF but my K's go down to much. But on AS Im dominating to much even with bums like Hoover, Ondrusek, and Christiani, well technically our whole BP are bums except for Chapman and Broxton, lol. I have 4 shutouts in the 1st 10 games of spring, so I really need make that a little harder, but keeping it so my starting pitching stay dominate like IRL.

and the A's dominate in my franchise, i keep losing to them, and lost in 4 games to them in the playoffs.
What I came up with is if they make the allstars (minors or majors) I give them a 5 point boost to potential. But the key to fairness is I dont just give it to my players, I give it to all players on any team who make the all star teams. For older players, over 30, I give it to their stats and not potential. Have considered doing it for other awards, but just stuck with all stars for simplicity. Its small in the grand scheme of things, but makes sense to me.

I've read a lot of your posts before. And I'm not trying to be smart with you or rude or anything.. But does a team going 3-0 in spring training really bother you that much that you can't play a season?

I would literally never play video games if that was the case.. It's actually pretty damn realistic for the cubbies to go 3-0 in spring training.. It's baseball that happens..

To each his own. I've just seen you very critical of every dynasty you've ever posted about, just hope it's not completely sucking the fun out for you.

Playing mlb 13, started a franchise with the Houston Astros. Simmed first two seasons to the 2015 season. my goal was to take over a young talented team and take them to the show. Kind of put that KC Royal twist to it.

1st season- Put a lot of effort into scouting. Main position I was looking for were starting pitchers. Really wanted to have a young future HOF ready to go my 2015, I found my Ace in carlos Alonso, Traded for Nathan Eovaldi. Really easy to get in the show and I always pitch well with him. Focused on developing my young talent. Carlos Correa of course. also created myself a player and developing him as well.

2nd season- more effort to the scouting. Moved Correa to Triple A, Made a trade for another young Ace in the making by giving away chris carter. simmed this season

I was joking about them being 3-0 during the spring. Now if they were one of the best teams in baseball after a few weeks into the regular season then yeah I would be very ticked off, and want to restart. Typically I dont let that happen, as I will sim games of bad teams seprarately, but this years game dont seem quite as stable, and when I have done that I have got glitches, so I nolonger replay a game.

Yeah spring training you will see bad team at times actually do well then stumble when it counts, and even in the regular season you will have a surprise from time to time, unless its the North Side trash, lol Unfortunately I think the North Side Losers have some talent although young, and Madden has the ability to make them competitive.

NLC is definitely getting tougher, and if my Reds dont get their heads out of their rear and get over paid guys playing to their potential they will be taking the place of the cellar dwellers

Not sure if anyone is still reading this but I cannot create a thread so I wasn't sure where else to post. I'm in my offseason, I've done many different franchises, but this is the first time I've had a bit of a strange issue. Around the middle of the 3rd week of free agency, all the qualified players had the qualified tag vanish so you couldn't tell who had and hand't been qualified (which was a ridiculous amount of people, even 40 year olds at 59 overall were given qualifying offers and they rejected them). Has anyone else noticed this, and does it erase the compensation? Thanks.
