ANTHONY VARVARO-RP (Mariners)
USA: yes...New York City born!
There is no set delivery that incorporates at once (set position with glove AWAY from chest, quick look down, high kick; glove stays in position and a finish going towards first; in a 3/4 upright position)
so....for delivery, I'm going with: Jensen LewisLast edited by Rod_Carew29; 10-05-2010, 08:54 PM.For 2017...

Re: BATTING STANCE/PITCHING DELIVERY THREAD
I just wanted to chime in here and say that most of the guys everybody on here lists as throwing 12 to 6 curves DO NOT throw that type of curve on average throughout the season. And almost nobody throws a 4 seam pitch as in MLB 10 that is completely straight. I really wish for next year the main editors of the pitches use PITCH F/X.
It is the reason I am doing edits for my own rosters but I will not get many of the guys that aren't really any good so those guys are usually stuck with what they got which is okay I'm just trying to add some opinions in here as to where the actual breaks on these pitches go. With Pitch F/X can see who has the largest break and who has the smallest break and where the pitch is breaking on an x/y axis as well as how fast it is going and how many stroke, balss, whiffs, etc happened on that pitch. It is very apparent on Pitch F/X that the curveball has a lot horizontal movement on average throughout the season for many pitchers and turns into a sweeping curve for many of them. I am not saying they don't throw a 12 to 6 curve at times but on average they do not. I am not sure where you guys are getting your information but either the terminology is wrong or they are just using 12 to 6 as an estimation. Cortes definitely throws a normal curveball as do literally dozens of other pitchers. Hardly anybody throws a true 12 to 6 imo at least averaging out their curve throughout the season.Last edited by khronikos; 10-06-2010, 02:49 AM.Comment

a) there really isn't an 'everybody' on here. Most of what's posted (not asked for) is done so by me...the owner/creator of this thread.
If you have issues with axis' and F/X representation, create your second thread and rant there.
b) it's old news about the 4-seam issue. If you take the time to go through 200+ pages, you will see that there are some pitchers who only throw sinkers, 2-seamers and NEVER any 4-seam fastballs. But for the most part, the argument is relative....
c) I keep telling folks, but I guess I have to say it one more time, FX is NOT and never was, the cureall or the final word. I know all about it. But I also know, like human eyes, FX can not only be off with the break movement, but often enough, it MIS-IDENTIFIES pitches and pitch speeds---in virtually any game...you watch the system at work often enough, you will see it. I have access to a lot of things to compile what I do...I am far from being a novice.
This whole notion about going to FX, is like a major league scout depending on written reports, instead of getting his *** out there to see the player live and in person.
d) I continue to do what I do, because most don't have a way to do so and/or the time. And I do this also, to get SCEA to update critical player info. No one REALLY does it, so I do.
e) Dan Cortes throws EXACTLY what I said he does and I'm not changing or will get into any debate for anyone.
WATCH all of his 2010 appearances and do the math. I could care less about turning everything over to FX, x/y axis and all of that other crap. I am not impressed. I had to set the record straight on this same kind of BS weeks ago...but we're gonna end it right here.
I've been at this on OS, for 5 years--certainly longer--a lot longer, than most.
You just joined OS weeks ago...what's your credibility?

MIKE DUNN-RP (Braves)
delivery: Taschner
he throws:
slider: 88mph
4-seam: 97mph
cutter: 96mph
change: 87mph
** I didn't see/determine a 2-seam fastball in his August 4th and October 2nd appearances. Maybe as what he's done with his delivery, he's changed some things?For 2017...

Re: BATTING STANCE/PITCHING DELIVERY THREAD
One interesting note: I almost thought about Xavier Nady for Aaron Hill's stance. However, I thought the Nady stance had a little too much bat movement so I decided against it. Anyway, I'm still gonna go with Encarnacion for Hill's stance.Comment
