    Re: Knight - classic teams

Hit the wrong button, here's a few more pics from my Reds/Expos game. Give us more, Knight, please!

    Cromartie going deep.
    Rose slapping a single.
Foster doubling in the LC gap.
Clay Carroll throwing the old Palmball.

      There will be more.
      Don't you guys worry!

I'm very happy to see you guys having fun with the old time teams.
Great reads on the games too. I love hearing that! Thanks.
Joey...I see that the Reds numbers(for the most part) stuck...but I see Carter and Foster did not. I'll check on that.

I played another game last night ....against the Dodgers this time. Sandy Koufax is absolutely a monster. No wonder guys hated facing him. Just his good stuff could get anyone out. If he didn't make a mistake, you didn't hit it. The curve? forget it. I think I hit 20 ground ball outs last night.
Talk about simple....FB-CB-CH...that's it(two curves though). It's too bad he didn't go longer in his career or he wouldn't be forgotten when talking about "greatest pitcher".

      Love the pics too!

The Dodgers weren't on the roster you released, were they? I'm at work but I was thinking that they were not one of the 6(?) teams you had finished. Looking forward to trying them out, and if you put something like the '62 Giants on there to face the Dodgers that would be sweet.

Re: the pics, I had to post some of the Expos. Looking good Knight! Once these are done I probably won't be playing any with my current franchise. I love old school (I'm 33, btw).

No...I just finished the Dodgers yesterday and was testing them out.
I totally forgot that Frank Howard had started his career with the Dodgers before moving on to the Senators.
When I get out the next "update"....check out OF'er Wally Moon. I finally got to use the "monobrow"(one of two players to have it) from the editor! An old Cardinal OF'er .....you could tell that guy was a holdover from the real old school player.

Very fun to play some exhibition games with.
You can choose both unis(throwbacks) by simply selecting one team...picking the uni...then back out and go to the other team pick the uni and start the game.
Uniform numbers should also stick for exhibition games if you don't go into the editor.
If you do..they will change to un-retired numbers.

I haven't balanced these yet....but they are close. Definitely great to test out with.
Please...do not post these elsewhere or use these to repost in any way.
                Thanks..
(these will work with both the patched and non-patched game)
                Enjoy!...

                  Re: Knight - classic teams

Knight - please tell me you are going to do the 1985 Cardinals! Certainly not the greatest Cardinals team (didn't even win the WS), but probably the epitome of a style of baseball that the Cardinals became famous for in the 80's. I could play matchups between the '85 Cards and '86 Mets all day. The Runnin' Redbirds had the Mets number in '85 - perhaps the '86 Mets would do better against them...

To this day, nearly 25 years later, the 3 game series played between the Cards and the Mets in October, 1985 still gives me goosebumps. Darling vs Tudor (1-0 Mets, Strawberry homers), Gooden vs Andujar (5-2 Mets, Doc wins his 24th), Aguilera vs Cox (4-3 Cards). We really needed a sweep going in and very nearly got it - what a heartbreaker, but some of the finest baseball I have ever witnessed from any era. I also vividly remember the game on Sept. 11, 1985 as one of the greatest pitching duels I will probably ever see. Gooden vs Tudor - two true aces going head to head in the heat of a pennant race. Scoreless through 9. Cedeno homers off of Orosco in the 10th (ouch!). Tudor pitches a scoreless 10th, striking out Strawberry (with Dykstra the tying run on base) to end the game. We lost, but what a classic!

Well...with teams from different eras it's very difficult to have each team/each player perform as they did in their particular season.....so I really like to test them out against each team quite a bit and also sim quite a few seasons to make sure that things are at least close to each years numbers if possible.

It's much more difficult to do various teams rather than either one specific year(like I used to create for High Heat...say 1951) or even easier is the "Greatest Players" set up....where basically there is nothing to check against....

ledfut....I was about to go with '68.
You sound pretty passionate about '85 though....so if nobody objects....
                    However, keep this in mind....

You can't go wrong with the '68 team. But in my opinion, the '68 Cards were all about Gibson. The '85 Cards were a much more exciting TEAM (Coleman, the Wizard, McGee, Jack the Ripper, Pendleton, Tudor, Andujar - remember his flameout in the WS?, and yes Friggin Tommy Herr!). I hope nobody objects, but I believe the '85 team would be way more fun...

I like the thought of both teams, but since I grew up on 80's baseball the '85 Cards works for me.

                                Re: Knight - classic teams

Great work on these classic teams. Played the 75 Reds against the 86 Mets and had a ball.

If your still taking request would you be able to create the 90 A's? One of my all time favorite teams. That team was devastating. Everybody knew them for Rickey Henderson and the two-roided up monsters in the middle of the line up in McGwire and Canseco. But they had one of the best pitching staffs assembled for one season. And I'm not just talking about their starting staff. Their bullpen was just as good. With 27 game winner Bob Welch and Dave Stewart heading the starting staff you had some great relievers out of the pen in Honeycutt, Gene Nelson and one of the greatest closers of all time in Eckersley.

I know they got their asses handed to them in the World Series but I seriously thought that LaRussa over-managed that team in the Series. If they would have won it that team would have been there with the 75 Reds and 27 Yankees as an all time great team.
I have more respect for a man who let's me know where he stands, even if he's wrong. Than the one who comes up like an angel and is nothing but a devil. - Malcolm X
