I think you should go with the classic teams, There would be so much funner playing the 2001 Mariners vs say the 27 Yankees......Some of you ask why the 01 Mariners cause if you look at the win loss they had the second most win in baseball history with 117, not even the Yankees can say that. If you need help picking the teams that won a world series and if they havn't Go with the best Win-Loss Percentage. Baseball Almanic and Baseball Reference are the two best web sites out there with all the history stats and players.

Re: Knight - classic teams
Would love to see not only specific year teams (based on user feedback) as well as Alltime Teams, but how about a roster set of teams from 1955-1979? And another from 1980-2008? This would give us oldtimers much joy in playing with teams we grew up with in the 50's, 60's, and 70's....while allowing the younger set to reminisce about the 80's 90's and 2000 teams.
Of course, the amount of editing required might mean it would not be done until MLB2012 hits the streets!

Re: Knight - classic teams
Ok, I went through all the teams and decieded that these are the best teams in modern baseball. There were really good teams in the Dead Ball era but, I didn’t want to go with that for the simple fact a lot of teams could not compete against today’s teams. But that is another debate…The criteria that had to make the list is that team had to win a World Series, if that organization doesn’t have a World Series I choosed the best team that made the playoffs…by best team they had to have the most wins in a season…..Take alook at it and think about…
1. 2001 Arizona Diamondbacks
2. 1995 Atlanta Braves
3. 1970 Baltimore Orioles
4. 2004 Boston Red Soxs
5. 1945 Chicago Cubs
6. 2005 Chicago White Soxs
7. 1975 Cincinnati Reds
8. 1948 Cleveland Indians
9. 2007 Colorado Rockies
10. 1984 Detroit Tigers
11. 1997 Florida Marlins
12. 2005 Houston Astros
13. 1985 Kansas City Royals
14. 2002 Los Angles Angles
15. 1955 Los Angles Dodgers (Brooklyn Dodgers)
16. 1982 Milwaukee Brewers
17. 1991 Minnesota Twins
18. 1986 New York Mets
19. 1927 New York Yankees
20. 1989 Oakland A’s
21. 1980 Philadelphia Philies
22. 1979 Pittsburgh Pirates
23. 1998 San diego Padres
24. 1954 San Francisco Giants (New York Giants)
25. 2001 Seattle Mariners
26. 1967 St. Louis Cardinals
27. 2008 Tampa Bay Rays
28. 1999 Texas Rangers
29. 1992 Toronto Blue Jays
30. 1981 Washington Nationals (Montreal Expos)

I like it....a lot....and wouldn't mind going with the teams you've listed...except I would love to go a little less "modern" with the squads I've put the ???? and for the Yankees....I've already promised the 1961 squad.....and I've done '67 so many times....'64 for the Cards seems nice. I wouldn't mind kind of pairing off teams either...like replacing the '51 Giants(one of my all time favorite squads)...with the '89 Giants to get them to play off the '89 A's
Suggestions?

Re: Knight - classic teams
Hey, Knight. Here are some suggestions for the teams you would like to replace.
BoSox - Mid/Late 70's team, such as '78 Jim Rice with 46 HR, Lynn, Evans, Fisk and a young Eck at SP
ChiSox - '77 Two 30 HR guys, including Oscar Gamble, but thin on pitching
Astros - '86 Some power and speed, and Mike Scott, Bob Knepper & an aging Ryan
Mets - I personally still prefer an 80's team, such as '85, '88 or maybe even '90. But I know you just did '86 last year, so maybe '73, '76 or the Amazin's. A team with King Kong going for broke every AB and Seaver and Koosman wouldn't be all that bad.
Padres - '84 An aging Nettles and Garvey, and Gwynn hit .351 that year.Comment

Re: Knight - classic teams
Hey Knight,
Great job you and everyone else involved do with these
classic rosters. How about the '69 Mets, unless you've
already created that team, and if you really want to
get creative maybe you can do some of the Negro
league teams from the past.Comment

Re: Knight - classic teams
I really like the idea of sticking to a certain era, because I would love to play a Season with rosters like this.
And, for example, the 1906 Cubs against the 1961 Yankees would be interesting.... but odd.
If you stick to a certain time period, the best teams will be more competitive, me thinks.
It would be interesting to see pre-1920's teams playing small ball... in modern parks! The expansion teams (lots of them!) could be filled in with Negro League players, pre-1900 players...
Another idea I personally would love is the best teams of the 1970's (my childhood!, what a surprise!).... the A's of the early 1970's, the Big Red Machine, the classic Dodgers infield, the return of the Bronx Bombers, the 1971 or 1979 Pirates.... good stuff.[Insert clever, personally-relevant, or cutting-edge remark, data, link, or picture]Comment

Re: Knight - classic teams
1978 Boston Red Soxs
1983 Chicago White Soxs
1986 Houston Astros
1969 New York Mets
1984 San diego Padres
Here is the teams that I picked next for the ones with the question marks…78 Red Soxs….Look at the Outfield, Lynn, Rice, Evans…Enough said about that team….
Went with 83 White Soxs cause you have the first true DH in Harold Baines on that team. Good team that never got any love, but they are the White Soxs so there is never any love….
86 Astros, With Mike Scott, Nolan Ryan, Glenn Davis…This team could have beaten the Mets but I think the Mets just had luck on their side that year ask Buckner….Sorry Red Sox fans…..
For the Mets I would like to see the 86 Mets but What about the MIRCLE METS!! Can’t go wrong with that team…good classic team in MLB…
Then the Padres….Steve Garvey, Tony Gwynn, ect……Soild team that played well together…..It's all about the man Hammer'n Hank...Comment
