We had some guy named Nomar until 04, and it doesn't really matter anyways, we won a world series with Julio Lugo as the starting SS and I used to pray he would blow a hammy or something every time he ran out another weak grounder to second base.

Come on guys, Why do we clutter this thread with off-topic conversations? Make a thread in the baseball section if you want to talk yanks/red sox.

This thread should be dedicated to the OS Full Minors Roster done by Knight and crew. I'm not trying to be mean, its just not helping any matters and will only lead to information being push back when the roster makers post information and updates.

Also soxprospects.com is a great site for any info you might need on red sox prospects. I've met most of the guys that run it and their really dedicated smart guys who love baseball and are very knowledgeable.

Also a slightly positive story relating to Ryan Westmoreland that I read on the forums there. Alberto Contador who has won the Tour de France 2 times suffered a seizure during a race due to an angioma (which is apparently what was wrong with Westmoreland) when he was 21 and won his first Tour de France 3 years later.

lol. fenwaymike called him overrated with no range.

jeters defense improved drastically last season, and he won another gold glove. as far as offensively, hes one of the most consistent hitters in the game, and there arent many shortstops who had as good a year as him last year. overrated?

Very doubtful, the Padres don't need a first basemen in a trade with Adrian Gonzalez, they have Kyle Blanks who can slide over and have a couple of outfielders who are ready to take over LF when that happens.

Anyways, back on topic. I agree about soxprospects being a great site for scouting report and information on the Red Sox prospects. It helped me a lot when editing in Casey Kelly and Ryan Westmoreland (I'm keeping him in despite what he is dealing with in real life).

This new patch won't hamper any progress made? I know some games won't allow rosters from previous patches to be used.

This one won't hamper it I believe. The only patch that did was the one last year to correct the stats glitch. Any roster pre-patch had the glitch but after that patch was released, the old rosters were wiped from the roster vault. Some people still uploaded the old ones though.

So that glitch from last year is still fixed correct? I remembered that especially sucked for us Yanks fans and A-Rod.

Yes it is, it was fixed with any rosters post-09 patch and hasn't shown up this year at all.

Lars Anderson looked like he would be ready to play this season a year ago at this time but he had a bad year and will probably won't be much more than a September callup this year. Lowrie looked like the shortstop for at least the next couple seasons but he can't stay healthy. Reddick and Kalish are solid prospects but aren't close to ready for full time jobs this season.

All the free agents you mentioned are only signed short term and it's because they didn't have a better option in their system. Would you rather have Lowrie who barely played last year as the starting SS over Scutaro. Or Reddick in left and Jacoby in center instead of Cameron. I wouldn't although Reddick has been tearing it up this spring but he struggled badly in AAA and with the sox last season. Yes Penny and Smoltz ended up being bad signings but they didn't give them a ton of money and they got rid of them after 3 months. Now the staff is loaded and our best prospect is Kelly who will probably start in Portland this year and could be ready to contribute sometime next year. Same with Iglesias who will hopefully be ready when Scutaro's contract expires after 2011.

It takes a lot of skill, intelligence and hard work by scouts and the front office to draft and develop players but you also need luck and the sox just haven't been lucky the last couple years with most of their high level prospects. We still don't really know what to expect out of Buchholz and he threw a no hitter in 2007. I'm quite sure the sox would love to have a player or two that they've developed ready for the big leagues every season but it just doesn't work like that. Luckily they have the money to sign almost any free agent they want to fill in the holes when they don't have young players ready to play there.

I'm not trying to rip you or anything I just disagree that signing Cameron and Scutaro was a mistake or that their changing their philosophy and just throwing money at every other free agent. They've just had some bad luck with prospects the last season or two and they've had to fill holes in the lineup they thought they might be able to take care of with their own prospects.

Also hoping for a quick and full recovery for Westmoreland and hopefully he's back to just being a normal 19 year old kid soon and maybe eventually he can start thinking about playing baseball again.

Instead of building around young players and home grown talent, they're starting to make the same mistakes signing guys like Mike Cameron, Marco Scutaro, Brad Penny, John Smoltz etc. Kinda disappointing, I like seeing guys that came up with the Sox stay with them and being locked up young and cheap IE Pedroia, Youk, Lester.

Really hoping Westmoreland gets better. I don't care if he never plays baseball again, and it would be selfish of any Red Sox fan to be thinking about that right now. It just sucks seeing a 19 year old kid face something like that.
Exactly...those signings by the Sox actually show how committed they are to their prospects and their farm system..these are all stop gap guys for the "bridge" they are building..Theo used the word "bridge" and Red Sox fans went nuts and finally he had to re-phrase it because it seemed like he meant the sox were not trying to win now. Scutaro is there until Iglesisas takes over..Anderson should be interesting..the Red sox could use him in a package to get Adrian Gonzalez which would be fin by me...part of the job your farm system does for you is enable you to make trades for great players who are in their prime like Gonzalez
