Yeah, I generalized too quickly there. I suppose I was mostly just registering my surprise that not everyone on the internet is 13, which is a conclusion that's easy to come to depending on which comments section you're reading. When you find a community like this where people write with consideration for others (depending on the thread), it's a pleasant thing.

Re: Fictional Rosters
Looking back, the easiest thing to do would proably have been to "zero out" the MLBPA/SCEA guys, and just increase all of the "fake players" ratings by 15 or 20 points.
After the first played season, half of the MLBPA/SCEA guys would have retired anyway (age or ability).GATEWAY TO GREATNESS: 2010 CARDINALS FRANCHISE

Yeah... I thought about that last night. Especially since SCEA generates rosters all the time, there are plenty of players to import.
On the other hand (just so we don't think we've all wasted a bunch of time, or something) the appearances of the SCEA fictional players are either bland or confusing: either cookie cutter face templates or Hispanic Herman Munsters with red hair. Since appearances are one of the most time consuming parts of this, there would have still been enough work to justify collaboration.
That doesn't help you, though, TripleThreat. Using SCEA players would have saved you the effort of making spreadsheets. But I like the spreadsheets, and I think we're going to get a different roster than we would have otherwise.
I found last night that I could enter names, positions, and ratings for an entire team's position players in about an hour and a half. That's not too bad. The killer is making detailed player faces (about 20 to 30 minutes for a really good one). In some ways, I think they're worth it for the immersion. It might, however, be worth considering lowering our expectations somewhat if people are feeling the burden. We could always release a basic "beta" roster and if it generates enough downloads, I'm sure people will want to improve appearances. That might be a way to drum up some more volunteer appearance editors.
Just a thought. If we're making good progress and people are still happy doing this, then we'll just continue as we have been.Comment

Re: Fictional Rosters
Quick note: I updated the first page. If you've been following this, there isn't anything on there you aren't aware of. The old one made it sound like everything was well on its way, which may have turned away volunteers. I just changed the language to be more welcoming.Comment

Re: Fictional Rosters
Finishing up the pitcher spreadsheet now (including pitcher batting ratings). Just checking to make sure I have the right number of A, B, C, .. potentials correct.
Shut up.
No really, shut up.
Ha Ha Ha Ha.
I'll enter the Braves (sign me up for editing the NL East as well) pitchers into the game to see if everything looks right ... then see if everything looks okay. Then I'll send it to RM and get busy editing players.
A-Potential Pitchers (Total): 168
B-Potential Pitchers (Total): 318
C-Potential Pitchers (Total): 326
D-Potential Pitchers (Total): Who gives a crap? *grin*Last edited by TripleThreat1973; 04-08-2011, 11:24 PM.GATEWAY TO GREATNESS: 2010 CARDINALS FRANCHISE

Re: Fictional Rosters
Hey, just found this and would love to give it a shot when it is completed. Any update on the status of it?
Today is Sunday, April 10, 2011.
Thanks for all the work!!! It is well appreciated!Comment

Re: Fictional Rosters
Most likely there will be no demo. Just let us work.
I'm working on some KGJr inspired offshootsComment

Re: Fictional Rosters
A demo would just be half-completed rosters, and wouldn't really lead to anything than other the likely feeling of "this sucks".
It's not like there are some teams that are fully completed and others that are not.
The rosters will be just like SCEA rosters, in terms of ratings, etc ... just all of the players will be "fake".GATEWAY TO GREATNESS: 2010 CARDINALS FRANCHISE

Re: Fictional Rosters
Just want to make sure. I dug through the thread and raleigh did say this, but just incase I missed something I wanted to throw it out in the open. Just incase I'm wrong.
Also, I'm very proud of this thread and it's high level of maturity. I stuck my head in full minors and it is sad what is going on in there. However, let's go easy on people who ask if it's done...hell I'm working on it and I am curious when it will be done.
It's a game. Let's remember that.Comment

Re: Fictional Rosters
Yeah, I just explained how the rosters are being edited in hopes that people would understand that a "demo" type of thing would not be enjoyable for anyone.
If we, say, edited all the batters and players for one team, and then moved on to another, then releasing a demo of 4 completed teams would be possible ... and cool.
I understand people's enthusiasm for the rosters. It is a cool idea.
Hope I didn't come off the wrong way.GATEWAY TO GREATNESS: 2010 CARDINALS FRANCHISE

Re: Fictional Rosters
Sorry I've been incomunicado, (which is Spanish for out of communication...). Busy stretch here. I told TripleThreat this already, but I should relay the message that I figured just a few more hours of editing might help to streamline the pitcher's spreadsheet a bit. There are a few reasons for that, the main one was that the ratio of starters to relievers skewed too much to the relievers which also then resulted in too many high potential grades for the relievers. The second reason is to save time. I'm whittling down the number of relievers listed, since I can always import fictional SCEA guys in a fraction of the time it takes us to edit a "C" potential minor league reliever.
I was hoping to have it out by now, but I'll probably need until Thursday afternoon. Alright, I hope that's "no problemo" (which is Spanish for "no problem"; see how much I've learned since I moved to Albuquerque?) for you guys.
