One thing I would want to avoid, is to simply just "have the same teams" with fictional players replacing the MLBPA guys. In other words having the teams have the "same talent" as their current MLB counterparts. To me, that would not be enough difference to warrant fictional rosters. Again, just to me, having fictional rosters is to create an "alternate baseball universe" so to speak, not just "get rid of the MLBPA guys".
I was also wondering which would be a faster method ...
[1] Zeroing out the MLBPA players already in the game (moving all their ratings to zero), and then editing the already existing fake players (either by changing everything or just increasing their ratings by a certain number).
[2] Getting rid of the MLBPA players and creating new ones (from scratch) to take their place.
I'm strongly in favor of doing whatever take the least time/effort. Coming up with ideas is the easiest/most-fun part, actually entering in all of the guys is not. The longer it goes, the least likely it is to be completed.
I do agree with just coming up with a generic roster, with plenty of diversity, etc ... and then letting each guy go about customizing it however they want. If someone wants to change the names to match Bases Loaded or KG Baseball, then they could do that quickly and easily.
If they want to change the name of a team to reflect their college, high school team, or just be "their buddies" they could do that. For example, my RTTS guy is always the "adult" version of my 9yo son and his name is a combination of my sons' names (Luke Jacobs) or his first and middle names (Jacob Ryan). That creates some "buy in" and emotional attachment to the deal, which increases likelihood of completion or sustained playing.
Again, I'm not sur how long it would take to zero out the MLBPA players versus deleting them or importing over them. How nice would it be if The Show was like some other games (namely college games) where you have an option to use "generated players"?
Editing the existing minor leaguers (fake players) might also be the fastest way ... with throwing in some guys that people want (Fake Legends).
I'll produce the spreadsheet regardless, because it also allows me to test some methods that can be used for a variety of projects.
One advantage of using the MiLB players is that we [1] already all have the same guys/access, [2] they're already fairly realistic, and [3] the pitchers already have realistic repitoires.
