Re: Turn Back The Clock: 1994 Season Replay-The Season That Never Was

Hey Knight, was wondering what your thoughts were on the new Madden? I got Madden day one but have yet to open it because of this roster set, I cant get enough of Expos and White Sox seasons I have going. I do have to admit I have sprinkled some Ncaa 13 in between, I really like the Heisman challenge it also brings back some of the past sporting memories. Have you had a chance to try them out at all?

Knight, are you still planning on releasing V1.1 that has some of the fixes you mentioned a few pages back?

I haven't tried Madden yet. I'm not sure how I'll go with that as I have to see how taking out franchise mode and inserting connected careers really works out. Also....I'm hearing no coach mode....so that's a big negative.

Yes....there is still one stray player somewhere though....I saw a player named KL somewhere on a team on the bottom ticker.....or boxscore...so just double check before you start.

I've only gotten one more game in so far.....I started the Series vs. Atlanta.
It was Jason Jacome vs. Kent Mercker.
Both pitchers were really on their game. Mercker.....using the K as the weapon(he had 10 in 7 innings)....Jacome the groundball. Going into the 7th....no runs for either team.....just 1 hit for the Mets and 3 for Atlanta....McGriff hit a mistake pitch fro a no doubt HR.
After pinch hitting for Jacome in the 8th....Dwight Gooden gave up a 2 runs to give Atlanta a 3 run lead going into the ninth.
Atlanta closer Greg McMichael......who is just a mess so far(10.82 ERA)....gave up a pinch hit single(Cangelosi) and a walk. David Segui pinch hitting for Kelly Stinnett C...doubled in both runners.
McMichael righted himself and managed to work out of the jam with Kevin McReynolds(hitting just .170) flied out to right for the final out.

The Mets(7-3) have just a 0.5 game lead on Washington in the NL East.

Rather than making a new thread(I might though....in the main Show section....just to garner interest in historical roster sets.....not everyone ventures into the Roster section)...I'll keep my season updated here.

I finished up my series with the Braves.

Game 2 was a dominating performance by Bret Saberhagen(2-0) over a struggling Greg Maddux(1-2)
Saberhagen was hot right from the start...striking out Deion Sanders, Mark Lemke and Fred McGriff in the first. He steamrolled the Braves for 7 2/3 innings...striking out 10 and walking 1(Blauser in the 8th)
With the Mets up 3-0 going into the eighth this time....it was the Braves who put the pressure on...as I left Sabes in to try and get the shutout. A long homerun by Ryan Klesko made it 3-2.....Franco came in for a 4 out save to preserve a needed win.(Washington won their game once again)

Game 3 was a laugher for the Mets. Bobby Jones(1-1) vs. Tom Glavine(1-1)
The Mets jumped on Braves starter Glavine early in Game 3. Leadoff hitter Jose Vizcaino singled and Ryan Thompson CF hit a bomb over the LF wall for an early 2-0 lead.
In the second...the Mets plated 9 men scoring 5 runs on their way to a dominating 11-3 win. Glavine lasted just 2 1/3 innings and every Met position player/pinch hitter got a hit as the Mets blasted out 3 homers and 20 hits. Bobby Bonilla 3B.....went 5 for 5 with 1 HR and 1 double.....with 4 RBI. He is now batting .414...good for 5th in the NL.

Re: Turn Back The Clock: 1994 Season Replay-The Season That Never Was

Quick story, since you mentioned Mark Lemke:

I met Mark Lemke around the time of the 1994 season. He grew up in the same area of Upstate NY as me and was the nicest guy. I played 2B/3B and he gave me a few pointers on positioning and turning double plays. Very approachable and down to earth.

I had a baseball card that featured him at 2B trying to tag out another guy that grew up in my hometown ... Andy Van Slyke. A couple of years later, I met Van Slyke. He went to high school with my parents (graduated with my mom's class) and his dad was the principal, for which my grandmother worked for several years as his secretary. So, he was the total opposite of Lemke; very stand-offish and he flat-out refused to sign one the cards I had with me because he said that he didn't sign anything that had to do with the St. Louis Cardinals. Van Slyke didn't engage in any small talk and barely made eye contact.

Anyway, just goes to show how pro athletes can be very different, even if they grew up in the same town.

Keep us posted on your progress, Knight. I am hoping to start my 94 season this weekend.

Funny how people can be, huh?

The Mets welcomed the S.F. Giants to N.Y. after completing a successful road trip of their own.
                    Pete Smith(1-1) vs. Bill Swift(2-1)

Smith brought his bloated 11.45 ERA to the mound and figured out a plan to get by a lineup that featured Barry Bonds(5 HR's)...Matt Williams(6 HR's) and two hot hitting regulars in Todd Benzinger(.420 BA) and Kirt Manwaring(.329 BA)
Smith used the corners and held the Giant bats in check with one small misstep in the fourth...a Todd Benzinger HR(2nd of the season).
Swift was equally effective keeping the hot Met bats cool.......giving up just 3 hits in 7 IP.
After pinch hitting for Smith in the bottom of the 7th.....LHP Eric Gunderson gave up 3 more runs to the Giants in the top of the eighth to put the game out of reach for N.Y. and they dropped the opener 4-1.
Montreal took game 1 of their series with Florida to tie the Mets for 1st place in the N.L. East.

                      Drubbing.
Right there is the perfect term for what the N.Y. Mets treated their S.F. guests to last night at Shea Stadium.
It was doubles night as 4 Met starters hit 7 doubles to beat up on the Giants with a final score of 12-1.
It was never a contest as the Mets struck early and often...with what Met fans hope is Kevin McReynolds finally snapping his horrid start of the season to go 4=5 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI.
Met starting pitcher Mike Remlinger was quite sharp.....scattering 6 hits in 7 1/3 innings and giving up just one run to keep his ERA just under 2.00.
The Mets needed the win for the standings as well....as the smoking hot Montreal Expos downed the Florida Marlins as well.....preserving a tie for 1st place in the NL East.

Yeah, Saberhagen destroys me. As a matter of fact I just got thumped ny the Astros 11-5. Still looking for sliders, but Biggio and Bagwell went 8-11 between them. Even Eusebio took me deep. Speaking of Eusebio, you should look at Alex Rios for his stance Knight, and everyone else who use these rosters.

                          Will do ....thanks.
Bagwell is a beast in this set...as you'll see.

Game 3 of the 4 game series vs. the S.F. Giants was a very exciting game.
Jason Jacome(1-1) vs. William Van Landingham(1-2)

51,114 came to Shea to support the 1st place Mets play this early season match up vs. NL West contenders, the S.F. Giants. Even with Barry Bonds in a slump to start the season....this team has a lineup that must be dealt with carefully.
Mets manager M. Knight pondered giving RHP Dwight Gooden the start vs. the Giants...but Bonds played a big part of leaving the rotation intact and letting LHP Jacome take the mound.
It looked like a bad decision, as in the 1st inning the Giants took advantage of a wild Jacome and took a quick 3-0 lead.
The Mets countered with a run in the bottom of the inning and then in the bottom of the 2nd took a 5-3 lead on a Bobby Bonilla grand slam. Bonilla, who went 3-5 with 5 RBI in the game, is on a major hot streak in this young season.
The Mets got another run in the 6th to make it 6-3....but San Fran wouldn't give up getting single runs in the 7th and 8th to make it 6-5.
John Franco set the side down in order in the ninth though, for his 5th save of the season.

                            Knight.

I have hope with this set. My Yankees are on a massive tear out of the gate and are so much fun to play with. What a sick lineup and solid pitching staff!

I will also post up monthly teams stats and standings here.

Between this and my 1987 chise going.....it has been Show mania at my home.

                            Kudos again.

After taking 3 of 4 from the Giants...and keeping pace with the hot Expos....the Mets welcomed the 4th place Marlins into Shea....in the hopes of putting a little breathing room between them and the Montreal club.

In a tight game in which Bobby Jones(1-2) and Pat Rapp(1-2) were trading good and rough innings....an eighth inning run off a single by Alex Arias broke a 3-3 tie.
Rob Nen pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to gain the save.
Montreal dropped their game to San Diego 4-3, who pushed past the Giants for second place in the N.L. West.

Game 2 probables are Pete Smith(1-1) vs. Chris Hammond(1-1)
