KSig24: We are having a discussion in the Cubs OSFM thread about Albert Almora. The debate as whether or not he is an A/A- player or in the B range. I was wondering if you cared to weigh in with your thoughts, even if they don't match my own.

Re: Annual KSig24 Top Prospect Q&A
I grew up with baseball. My dad pitched in the Twins system till he hurt his elbow and I pitched in high school till I hurt my shoulder. I try to go to as many games a year I can. I live by the Braves AAA team now. Lived by the Mets high A team for 3 years, lived in Indy for a year(have a foul ball from Andrew McCutchen), grew up all over Florida(have a signed ball from Palm Beach Expos Moises Alou, Matt Stairs, and Felipe Alou). Love seeing kids trying to make it to the show.Comment

Re: Annual KSig24 Top Prospect Q&A
Top 50 icon is based on OVL, age(24 or 25 and under), Potential, no ML service time and in the minors.Comment

Re: Annual KSig24 Top Prospect Q&A
It's not a numerical ranking. For this year it is just an icon that signifies they are a top 50 player. So probably the A prospects will be top 50 and highest rated Bs after.Comment

Re: Annual KSig24 Top Prospect Q&A
In order of confidence:
Michael Wacha (I see him as a top 15 prospect now.)
Aaron Hicks (I know that a lot of people are pretty big on him, but I know that some aren't. I would have listed him here before spring training began.)
Stefen Romero (I would say that he could become a top 10 prospect. I would have him in my top 25 now.)
Corey Seager
Trevor Story (I'm not really confident in Story, but he has the ability to put it all together at the plate.)
Ronny Rodriguez (Story and Rodriguez are basically interchangeable. I like Rodriguez's defense better and Story's offense better.)
Brad Miller (I know that he's basically too old to become a top prospect to most people, but I don't really care about any publication's list. He's a very skilled player.)
Michael Choice (The same thing applies to Choice.)
Matt Davidson (There's still a ton of talent there at such a young age.)
I have Jed Gyorko, Aaron Hicks, Nolan Arenado, Stefen Romero, Trevor Story, Kyle Zimmer and Corey Seager as A- players. I could easily have some of them (Hicks, Arenado, Romero and Seager) as A players.
I would have Noah Syndergaard as a B+ or a B and Billy Hamilton as a B or B-.
I might drop Gerritt Cole down to an A-, but that's just because I've always been kind of intrigued at how so many people hit him so easily and so consistently (even when he was at UCLA) when he likely has the nastiest stuff out of all the prospects besides Trevor Bauer and possibly Jose Fernandez and Dylan Bundy.Last edited by Jason_19; 03-13-2013, 08:41 AM.Comment

Re: Annual KSig24 Top Prospect Q&A
I have quite a few player who I view as breakout prospect candidates, but I'm not saying that I see them as potential top 10 prospects. I haven't payed a lot of attention to the top 50/top 100 lists. Michael Wacha and Aaron Hicks are probably on the bottom part of quite a few top 100 lists, but I still have to list them because I think they are beasts (especially Michael Wacha).

I have Christian Yelich, Mike Zunino, Travis d'Arnaud, Anthony Rendon, George Springer, Danny Hultzen, Michael Wacha, Kevin Gausman and Addison Russell as definite A's.

For the Mariners prospects I currently have Zunino as a straight A, Hultzen as an A-, Miller as a B+, and Romero as a straight B. at their optimal positions (second base) Miller and Romero play up half a grade, but at short Miller doesn't have the defensive ability to be pushed into the A- range and Romero is probably going to have to move to third or left so he also takes a hit for his lack of defensive ability. Both guys are definitely on the cusp though, I have Miller's potential as an 89 and Romero's as an 86.Bakin' soda, I got bakin' sodaComment

Re: Annual KSig24 Top Prospect Q&A
Thanks for the input Jason, my list has more or less evolved since I posted it in here, even the one I posted in the official OSFM thread is a little outdated lol.

That sounds great. I'm really glad that you're involved in this and that you're still involved in editing pitches. I figured that you list had changed since you had posted it.
I forgot about the potentials and I'm not familiar with the details of the grading system and how it applies to attributes and progression. Do you have a link that covers this in great detail? If not, it's cool. I haven't paid close attention to this because I figured that a useable roster set was still a long way away.
Thank you. Your work is greatly appreciated.Last edited by Jason_19; 03-14-2013, 05:01 AM.Comment
