If you have any more complaints, feel free to PM me. Honestly I'm kind of tired of you criticizing our player quality when you haven't even seen our work yet. Your opinions are noted, but I can personally assure you "player quality" in these rosters will be very good, much better than years past.

Re: 2014 OS FICTIONAL rosters
25 and 40 man rosters is thinking too small, at least for what we want here. We're thinking franchise here.
Plus, with rosters able to be carried over to future MLBts versions, this could be the last full fictional roster we ever have to create, or at least the last one we have to do this much work on. In the future this set could be edited and modified to add or take away players or edit gear, stances, pitches, etc...
Now let's stop typing so much in this thread and rather spend the time creating new players!
I'll get with you creator when I get my copy and I can start making pitchers and prospects since it seems like you have most position players done.Comment

Re: 2014 OS FICTIONAL rosters
The more I thought about it, the more it makes sense. Because we can carry over, the extra time to make a full minors would be worth it because it would completely be a new world.

If you're going to request contributions, you should not act like this is a one-man show. This is a community roster as much as anything else, and I have 2 valid concerns: the higher volume of players processed per day, the lower the quality. And not focusing on a 25/40 man set is an error.
If that opinion can't be voiced here, what can?Comment

This is a public forum and I have a valid concern about the rosters that we all want to be a part of--excuse me, are a part of. I've contributed players to it and plan on using it like everyone else.

We're creating a full fictional roster. I hope he doesn't release a WIP or 25 man roster. I will wait to have a full roster. You can either help contribute or stop complaining.St. Louis Cardinals | Milwaukee Bucks | Los Angeles Rams
UWW | UWGB | Duke

This IS a public forum, and your concerns have been heard. However, I feel it is a better choice for us to continue doing what we planned to do from the start. If any team members disagree, feel free to PM me and we can discuss the possibility or a w.i.p. file.
If you think they're going to be poor quality, don't use them. Feel free to make your own set.
You can continue to say what you want, as this IS a public forum, but I think I speak for the entire 2014 Fic Roster Team in saying that your contributions are no longer needed, and neither is the negativity.I play sports games and spend way too much time making rosters.

Re: 2014 OS FICTIONAL rosters
Some years ago, I had this exact conversation with someone who was determined to make 3 "Franchise Great" teams for each MLB Ballclub. So it would be 90 teams of great clubs, such as the 77 yanks, the 27 yanks and the 98 yanks.
I admired it, but told him it was too much.
He was determined.
The roster never even got 1/2 finished.
I am not making these, so I will just wait and take what I get. From past experience, though, there seems to be no reason to prevent people from enjoying them when you get to "25-man" or "40-man" rosters.
From my standpoint, it kind of doesn't make sense to refuse this. I highly doubt anyone is going to start pointing fingers and saying "this guy was a cop-out." If you do finally finish them, great, but I have watched this story play out before (more than once).
Your choice, but would it really hurt anything to have people use them at various progress points? Seems to me it wouldn't, yet refusing that has already upset some.
Ambitious is great, but so is practicality when others are involved.Comment

The primary reason is because I have a firsthand look at the progress being made. I have faith in my own ability, and I have faith in the entire team. I wouldn't feel satisfied putting out a half-finished roster... and I think it would make us more likely to not finish the full-minors set.
The whole purpose of this set is to be the main fictional roster for years to come, and I truly feel like we can make it happen.Last edited by creator2700; 04-30-2014, 05:08 PM.I play sports games and spend way too much time making rosters.

Re: 2014 OS FICTIONAL rosters
Hey guys, I'm new to these rosters, but think it's an interesting idea. I'd also be willing to help out a little once The Show comes out for PS4 and I get done with college for the summer (incidentally the same day). I was wondering, though, when you guys create players is it totally random, or do you have players (or types of players) in mind? For example, could I create myself and friends as different players since to anyone who didn't know it would just be a random fictional player? Obviously I'd keep ratings and potential low in such a scenario, so no one would be a star with outrageous potential, but I think it'd be fun to see them on the roster. I also enjoy writing fiction, so I could also create players that match characters in one of my novels. Thanks in advance for answering my question(s) and good luck with the roster!Comment

When I make players, it's like half and half, sometimes I go in with a plan, and sometimes I just wing it.Comment

I want this roster set to shine as much as anyone--that's why I'm voicing my concerns. 2700 players is an admirable goal; a very admirable goal--and I salute you. But I'm sure I speak for a lot of players (and maybe some contributors) when I tell you they have absolutely no use for the Double A teams or the Triple A scrubs--none, zip, zilch, nada. I guarantee you a lot of players may never even see one Double-A player in a game--ever.
A 40 man set is already 1200 players--believe me, that's already pushing the variability in the face generator. Unless you're planning on playing games on Fast Play, those cut scenes are gonna start looking like Night of the Living Dead after a while. And that's not hating on anyone's face-making skill; that's just numbers and pixels.
I'm only voicing a concern for those of us who will only use the 25 man or the 40 man: what's the point in not releasing these sets (with the best-quality player models), before the remaining 1,050 Double A players and Triple A scrubs/prospects are ironed out?
Keep in mind that the two groups of players are almost equal in number, so it stands to reason that they should take almost equal time in production. So if you start from the top-down, by the time the 25/40 is done, we then have that same amount of time in production to wait--for a bunch of players that a lot of players will never even use or see.
Now I ask you (humbly): is that fair to the community or the contributors?Comment

Re: 2014 OS FICTIONAL rosters
I don't know what more to tell you than that a w.i.p. file is most likely not going to be made available... I feel like enough has been said in this thread to back up my decision. I'm tired of arguing over this here... If you or anybody else is still concerned, pm me and I'll go in-depth into explaining my decision to wait until we're done to release these rosters.
IF per some chance I get more negative feedback than positive via PM, particularly from active contributors, I'll give more thought to a w.i.p. file. At this point though, I think the majority of the Fic Rosters team is all in for the full minors goal.I play sports games and spend way too much time making rosters.
