Russell will most probably remain at short stop due to his defensive abilities.
Baez could change to second or third, I am highly doubting third simply because of Bryant being a more natural fit there. I wouldn't be surprised if he got pushed to the corner outfield where his defense is less of a liability.
Alcantara has already started getting outfield reps, I expect him to just become a super utility player since he can play almost anything.
No idea what to do with Castro.

Another thing I am interested in is who the player to be named later is? Last year it was CJ Edwards and that turned out to be our big name we returned with. It is pretty clear Russell is the big name we got in this trade, but I suspect the PTBNL will be a significant pitching prospect.

      Thought?
I really, really hope we're not trying to get Stanton. 2, possibly 3 of these prospects could be as good as Stanton here in 2-3 more years. I'd rather wait it out and see this team develope into the powerhouse it's going to become.

As for the SS issue it's a non-issue. As you said, Russell remains at short. Baez most likely will go to third, a slightly below average shortstop can usually make an average or slightly above average 3B. Bryant may be a "natural" fit at third but his defense there really isn't that good either and he'll most likely wind up in RF and Castro can make an easy transition to 2B. Alcantara will probably be mostly a CF but as you said, will be able to play all over the place. That leaves Soler, Schwarber (assuming he won't stick at C, which he won't) or Almora for LF (though Almora more likely would bump Alcantara out of CF and the lineup). At catcher we're still looking at Castillo for some time to come, Zagunis is the only C in our system who I believe will have a legit shot at the big leagues (while remaining a catcher) at some point and he just got drafted.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that. I'd rather have the guys who can go out an play everyday as opposed to guys that can only play every 5th day. Pitching is over rated nowadays. Offense is at a near all time low for the live ball era and everyone seems to wanna keep stockpiling pitching. The steriod era is over.

I play with 30 team control and I had to manually make the trade. The A's wanted no parts of it. I always play the first year of my franchise to mirror real life.

The funny part is now that I have Russell I have received a trade offer simmed day for players like Barney, Schierholtz, etc. that always include him. The best one was the Braves who offered me Santana for Barney and Russell. I reversed the trade offer with just Barney and they said it looked good to them. They must have been feeling greedy.

I'm split on the trade. The Cubs really need pitching now more than ever. The offense is very hit and miss and young. With a better pitching staff, I think that'll take some pressure off of some of the hitters. Like most of you have stated though, I think Russell will be our SS within the next 2-3 years. Castro could slide over to 2nd, which I think would help his defense. Castro will never be a gold glove caliber defender, but shifting him over to 2nd could be a move he needs to improve his defense.

I wasn't suggesting that at all, just saying that I'm not sure your return is as good as what the Cubs got.

Theo's already stated that when we're ready to compete some prospects can be used as trading bait to bring over that top of the rotation pitcher and that they'd rather build the pitching up once we're already competing for something because it's just too risk to use a high draft pick on a young pitcher or to trade for one in the lower minors.

i ended up starting a fresh franchise with the trade, simmed the first year.

ill have bryant, baez, soler, russell, alcantara all up in year 2. the first year i made a couple trades. i traded schierholtz for cingrani. decent trade to help out rotation. then i signed josh johnson and released edwin jackson. all the guys pregress quit a bit to mid 70s after first year. soler is only 70 though. but i use hybrid so the ratings are kinda low.

I posted CAP's for the Cubs 2nd and 3rd round picks in the player vault.

SP Jake Stinnett 64 OVR 74 POT
                        C Mark Zagunis 61 OVR 69 POT

Please feel free to edit, make changes, and add them to your rosters. I am not very good at making CAP's, so if you can make them better, please do so and re-post for all of us Cubs fans.

I know we are coming up on the trade deadline, and this is where my real franchise always begins for me every year, so I want all the players I can get before I start it.

I am going to be editing together a roster set here soon and putting out a Cubs roster. It will have the following players WITHOUT regard to injuries at every level and all teams will be reorganized without injury. I prefer to have more prospects to play with than actual players when I play, so I will have Cael Brockmeyer at AAA Catcher instead of someone like Charles Rafael Lopez. Below are the rosters, let me know what you think, or if you would add/remove someone and why:

                          MLB:
                          SP- Jake Arrieta

                          SP- Edwin Jackson
                          SP- Tsuyoshi Wada
                          SP- Dallas Beeler
                          SP- Justin Grimm (Long Reliever)

                          C- Wellington Castillo
                          C- John Baker
                          1B- Anthony Rizzo

                          RF- Justin Ruggiano

                          * is a player on my 40 Man roster. I recommend you change it to your preference.

I need to cut two players, but I am not sure who to cut to make the 90 man roster. I am currently thinking 1B Lars Anderson and RF Chris Coghlan. I will be doing minor re-rates to get them to "compete" at their level to many players. I am also going to change all the pitchers who have RFB as their primary pitch to 4SF's (I cannot throw with RFB's), those that really do throw a RFB I will have available as a second pitch like with Barret Loux.

In my franchise I plan on signing Shohey Otani from free agency at some point during the season (probably July to call it and "international free agency" signing) and assigning him to AA Daytona to climb up the ladder for next season. By then I assume I will have already traded Darwin Barney, Nate Schierholtz, Luis Valbuena, and James McDonald among other players.

I look forward to hearing inputs from all the Cubs fans.

Just curious, but has Justin Ruggiano had an incredible breakout season in anyone else's franchise? I'm into mid June and he's hitting almost .350 with 16 HR's already (and for the first month of the season I had him platooning like IRL). It's not my difficulty setting because noone else is performing unreasonably good or bad (well, Castro's been a bit of a disappointment but not that much).

I really only have him playing against left handed starters in mine or when someone is tired and needs a game off and I have the same thing with him. He is always leading my team in home runs and has a ridiculous batting average. The 69 Contact and 80 Power against lefties is huge and 60/58 against righties isn't too bad either. He is my everyday right fielder after I trade Schierholtz.
