Back to using Guess Location Feature

I'm using Playmaker's Universal Sliders but after playing most of my games without guess pitch, I decided to use it for situational at bats. Here is why.

There have been countless posts including myself concerning the number of k's vs. BB's per game and overall CPU pitcher control and confidence. I have concluded that contact slider and pitch speed are not the answer to drawing more walks and better hitter counts. I even experimented with editing pitcher's BB/inning and K's/inning attributes as well as their control for each pitch. Nevertheless, I still experienced the same boxscore of 8-11 k's, 2 walks and countless 0-2, 1-2 counts. Quite frankly, having constant 0-2, 1-2 and 2-2 literally makes me walk away from this game. Sliders in my opinion are for adapting the game to your skill level and type of play, not to overcompensate our weaknesses. That's what Rookie and Veteran levels are for. So why the guess pitch?

    1. I noticed that one successful guess location hit does more damage to the CPU's confidence than all the endless 3-2 counts I get from "working the count".
    2. Working the Count does tire the pitcher but it does not hurt his confidence if he gets you out and strikes you out, he pitches better!
    3. We all have become familiar with CPU pitching patterns on several counts. Example: 3-2, the CPU throws mostly low and offspeed/breaking balls. Guess Location allows me to guess low and if I don't succeed, then the pitch could very well be a ball. One at bat, the location guess was below the strikezone and I layed off for ball 4. I normally would swing to protect the plate.
    4. By using guess location successfully, you will see more balls thrown, less control and better hitter counts.
Final result was 3 walks, 5k's, 8 runs on 14 hits. Yes, one pitch location led to a HR. The 5k's were the lowest so far for me in Allstar.
    5. I don't plan on overusing it but to help defend the plate for better discipline and allowing me to get better boxscores.

Last, I must say the game is fun and plays very real but, the pitching and hitting really needs to be addressed next year for balance. I most likely will break every hitting record there is at this pace and will not buy next years game until the hitting engine makes sense. There is no need for guess pitch and confidence meters to "boost" CPU and User play. The confidence meter tells me that the pitcher's attributes (control, velocity and speed) are not what dictates walks, hits, k's and overall performance but this "confidence" meter. Soft tossers become strikeout pitchers within seconds. I hope they do away with these type of features for next year.

I personally think this fearture should be scrapped, lets hope it doesn't come back next year, the game doesnt even need it and looks more like a tool for the casuals.
