Doesn't All Star use timed hitting like Veteran?

Do you have to use zone hitting on All Star or is it just on Hall of Fame?

All-Star level uses four-zone hitting. The general "zones" are up, down, left, and right.

Hall of Fame uses nine-zone hitting. Imagine the strike zone as a three-by-three grid—those are your nine hitting zones.

    Hope this helps.

      rspencer86,
can you explain the zone hitting concept please. On all star and HOF, do you have to move the stick a certain direction to get hits? Or is good timing good enough? Thanks a lot.

I recommend using the stick to get good timing. However, you can be successful with the X button only. I just hit a HR with X only. I use X when I have 2 strikes or simply need to make contact, like loaded bases no outs. You will get better hits with the stick and good timing but you'll make contact without the stick.

that's what i was looking for right there. i was wondering if i could just use X because i can't use the stick for crap.

Then I suggest sticking with Veteran or even Rookie if you're not going to use the stick. Even though you can use "X" only on allstar and make contact (sometimes great contact for HR's) each level of difficulty requires zone hitting skills to be utilized more accurately. You will find that most of your hits will be weak grounders and popups with X only on allstar. If you insist on using X only on allstar then, increase contact to 10 (user) and use the guess location feature. Higher contact slider helps.

Example: If the CPU hangs a changeup over the plate and you nail it with "X", you'll probably get a hit.

If the CPU is hitting the corners for strikes you will at best foul off or swing and miss with X even though your timing might be good. All the stick does is select the "zone" for you. Essentially, you're guessing where the pitch will be. So, the stick coupled with timing results in good contact on tough pitches which dominate allstar.
