Re: Classic Pitching sliders
Props to slthree for the sliders--they can do wonders for a game. From a slightly different perspective, though, I would say that it's possible to get realistic results using classic pitching on HOF with default sliders. Two examples: I had a game with the Dodgers where Penny was totally off--he walked a bunch of guys and got torched. His pitch count was near 100 after 5 1/3. The next game, Lowe was on fire. He hit his spots and cruised to a complete game shutout at an incredibly economical 85 pitches with only one walk. I've also had games like this from the CPU, one where I worked Harang to a high 90s pitch count through five, and others where I've only gotten pitchers to a 10-12 pitch per inning average. It depends on who you've got on the mound, what they've got that day, and the same for the CPU, but I think if you're patient, you can get good numbers with the default settings.
Note: Another really important thing with this mode is to know how your pitchers' pitches move and where you need to start them to get them to break correctly. I know this sounds weird (not sure if it's even programmed into the game), but I noticed that Schmidt's fasball rose when aimed up in the zone and moved a little down and away from righties when aimed low. Therefore, when trying to pitch up, I had to aim a little lower, and when trying to pitch down, I had to account for the lateral and vertical movement. This may vary from game to game, but a few inning through and you should see what I'm talking about here.Comment
