I swing at everything
I swing at every pitch. I am having problems judging the ball. Last game the cpu pitcher had 45 thrown pitches after 7 innings. My Fan Page http://theusualgamer.net/MyFanPage_Heelfan71.aspx

Re: I swing at everything
Yes, helps a ton.
I'm at -8 on HOF, and I'm hitting realistically.[Insert clever, personally-relevant, or cutting-edge remark, data, link, or picture]Comment

Re: I swing at everything
Re: pitch speed, how low are the rest of you going? I've had some similar issues, but I've felt a bit guilty about wanting to turn the pitch speed down (a videogame version of Catholicism, I guess). Does that equate to more hits, harder hits, etc., or do you find that it just helps you take more balls, fight off more pitches, and work pitch counts up?
I ask because when I'm patient, I have been able to draw a couple of walks per game on default pitch speed and get pitchers' counts up past the 10/inning average, though this isn't the norm.
Also (and this is sort of tangentially related), has anyone messed with the pitch count slider? It seems like this one is related to ball/strike ratios, fouling off pitches, etc. If that's true, this slider may be a good one to work with to get more balls, higher counts, etc. Just a thought. Anyway, it's good to know that I'm not the only one who has opposing starters go 8 regularly because they hardly throw any pitches!Comment

Re: I swing at everything
MANY people have this same problem when they first start playing The Show. One of the best things to do is start sitting on pitches...not only that, sit on LOCATION. In other words, lets say you purposely take the first and its a fastball for a strike - you might sit on something soft (CB, CH, etc.) on the 0-1 count. If the first pitch was a ball and you are ahead 1-0, sit on a fastball. You want to get to a HITTER'S COUNT - 1-0, 2-0, 2-1, 3-1...those are fastball counts. I sit on location ALOT. Most lefties, even professionally, are mostly middle/away with everything so I sit middle away alot. If the pitch is in, I take it. Realistically you can only cover 2/3 of the plate. All of the best hitters I played against and with looked to cover 2/3 of the plate...unless it is a 2 strike count. The 1-1 count is tough. Most pitchers will go with their best pitch in the best location. For Jamie Moyer its probably a change up while Billy Wagner will come at you with a fastball away. This is how professionals hit (and pitch) and it translates well in The Show. Just sitting on fastballs and adjusting to everything else won't cut it (trust me, I know). I caught professionally for 7 years and one of the best things about The Show (for me) is calling a game. I love setting hitters up and putting them away. I am having a ton of fun with the game.

Re: pitch speed, how low are the rest of you going?
Anything faster and I can't hit fastballs. As it is now I'm late on a lot of FB's resulting in a ton of opposite field hits and weak pop-ups, but that's rather realistic so I can't complain.Comment

Re: I swing at everything
i find that using (all star diff) the zone hitting and the select pitch thing and just sticking to one zone/one pitch every time up no matter what and not swinging at anything that doent havea lit up indicator in that zone. i select four seam fast ball and in on every pitch when im batting. if it wasnt for this feature in this game i would be striking out upwards of 15-20 time a game. and the lower pitch speed helps a great deal as well im at 4 (from extreme left) and it helps as well."Baseball is life, without Baseball life itself ceases to exist." - Ken SpragueComment

Re: I swing at everything
Which Pitch speed slider do you change? I notice that there are 3--Player1 Pitch speed, Player2 pitch speed, CPU pitch speed.

If you're having trouble hitting the CPU pitches then you would lower the CPU pitch speed.Comment

Re: I swing at everything
I think that lowering the pitch speed slider would help, but I tried something totally in the other direction today after reading a post from Carew about the relationship between real life and game pitch speeds and seeing a new set of sliders on the online forum.
The new set (and this corresponds to Carew's suggestion) maxes out pitch speeds for both human and cpu, and it maxes out pitch count and plate awareness sliders. I play on HOF with the guess pitch and zone features off, and contrary to my expectations, I had a couple of really great, fun games. I struck out 11 times the first time around, but only 5 or 6 the second. 12 hits one game, 8 the second, with a realistic number of doubles and one homer. I know the initial reaction if you're struggling with hitting is to turn the pitch speed down, but I'm going to put in my two cents and an advertisement to turn it up and see what you think. I think having pitch cound and plate awareness maxed helps you deal with the pitch speed, as the CPU isn't throwing bbs on the corers all game, and if you react late, you still have a good shot at fouling off the pitch.
I'd be curious to know what any of you who decides to try this thinks.Comment
