CPU vs. CPU sliders
So i've been working on and testing cpu vs. cpu sliders for a couple of weeks now. I am trying to match the stats to the sim engine in the game, instead of MLB stats, since they differ slightly. I started by simming the first ten games of the Tigers season ten times and recording all the information I could. I am now playing out (watching) these first ten games multiple times and tweaking some things. If anybody is interested in either the sliders or the stats I am getting let me know.Tags: None -
Re: CPU vs. CPU sliders
Guess I'll chime in here, since I love just turning on this game and watching the CPU go to work...
First off, the PS2 and PS3 are VERY different in this regard. On the default out of box PS2 game, as tgreer said, I frequently see a ton of hits and offense, and not much good pitching (even with the quick game aces). Turning down the pitcher's aggressiveness can help to extend some at-bats and get more varied results - part of the problem is the pitcher throwing too many strikes.
PS3 is a different story, however - the game plays very very well with no adjustments whatsoever, IMO. It really has just about everything - K's, walks, foul balls (and long at-bats to go with it), and all kinds of hits. The only thing really missing is HBP, and that's a game-wide problem - they just don't happen in any mode. If you're playing the PS3, I strongly suggest watching a few games with everything at default (maybe max the pitch speed for aesthetic value, it's truer to the real life speed) before trying to adjust anything.Comment

Re: CPU vs. CPU sliders
Thanks. I actually just started playing the ps3 version. Off the bat it seems that there are alot of K's that I am seeing. For the most part i have everything at default.
Question - I noticed that the CPU uses the cutoff man alot in the game. Many times outfielders throw directly to the base in an attempt to throw out a runner. Have you noticed this as well? I am wondering if there was a way to reduce that.Comment

Re: CPU vs. CPU sliders
I have started a journal here using your sliders, kingdevin, on the ps2 and I have seen a few times when the outfielder has thrown to the base directly to try to throw a guy out. In fact, I had a right fielder throw out a guy at the plate without a cutoff man and I have seen a center fielder throw a guy out at third from right-center field without a cutoff man.
I've also had two great games pitched by Erik Bedard, the ace of the Orioles' staff.
(I misspelled your name, but they are your sliders.)Last edited by doncoryell; 09-19-2007, 01:05 PM.If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you can read this in english, thank a soldier.Comment

By the way, i am now playing the ps3 version of the game. Some of my previous slider suggestions still apply. Thanks for the feed back. Do you find the ps2 sliders okay overall?Comment

Re: CPU vs. CPU sliders
You are correct. There are plays that there is a direct throw from the outfield to the base. However , I see the cutoff man used more than not in situations that in MLB do not really require the use of the cut off man as frequestly as it is used in the game i.e. tagging up from 3rd base. Usually there is a direct throw to the plate from the outfield. There is a cutoff of the ball at times to either check another runner on base or cut off an off line throw. Rarely do I see the cut off man catch the ball on the tag up and then throw home. I actually think that the play would be closer if the cut off man left the ball alone. It is situations like this that I am asking if there is anyother way to alter that.

This is just theory because I haven't really seen that problem much (or maybe I haven't been looking for it), but maybe you could turn the CPU's baserunning aggressiveness down a few ticks. The reason the throw is being cut probably has to do with holding the other runners who are trying to grab an extra base. If runners start refusing to score on sac flies, you'll probably need to turn it back up though.Comment
