2006-2008 Team Averages (for slider purposes)

Compiled from ESPN. This should be a good benchmark. 2007 was actually pretty average, since most numbers in '06 were above it and most numbers from '05 were below it.

EDIT: Updated for 2011 season. I used a weighted average system (50% 2010 stats, 25% 2008 + 2009 stats). 2010 was a pitching-dominated season, so these numbers are far lower than in previous years.

    Batting Average: .260
    On-Base Percentage: .329
    Slugging Percentage: .410
    OPS: .739
    Pitches Per Plate Appearance: 3.83

The following statistics are per game (so for two teams)

    Plate Appearances: 76.73
    Runs: 9.01
    Hits: 17.76
    Doubles: 3.57
    Triples: 0.37
    Homeruns: 1.97
    Strikeouts: 13.90
    Walks: 6.64
Stolen Base Attempts: 1.67 (72% success)
    Errors: 1.22

Hope this helps when creating sliders for next year.

Thanks aub. The high number of doubles kind of surprised me.

I wish I could get my OBP above .330. I just can't make myself walk enough. I know it's possible, but I can't quit swinging at bad pitches.

not to me, thats two teams. That like a doubble and a half per team, which is not that bad.

About 1/3 of hits should be of Extra-Base form. So say 20 hits in a game for both teams (14 singles, 4 doubles, 2 HR's). I think some people are blowing this singles thing out of proportion.

                great info~
                top notch work

but i gotta add, though it might be nit-picking, wondering how big a difference those #s were between the NL & AL.
were AL offensive #s significantly higher?

Putting this post up as a sticky...being as I have seen the averages question asked a few times already.

I wouldnt say that. There are games where there are simply too many singles, although the proper sliders do correct this.

My only suggestion for people is to download a set of sliders you like and tweak them to your personal liking.

I was looking at these averages, and reading my slider thread (see my sig) and I came pretty close to these averages.

I think I might have a really good set this year, I hope people try therm out.

I've just made my way back to The Show after a considerable hiatus, and I'm looking to edit some of the ratings to produce less hits per game and better simmed stats.

Given this information (and thanks to theaub for digging this up!), has anyone worked out a ballpark range for batting average and HR clicks in the ratings bars to produce reliable stats? For example, has anyone figure out how many clicks on the average bar it takes to get a guy to hit consistently between .270 and .285, etc.?

I'd put that about 55-65. You know, slightly better than average (.260)

out of my 210 rtts hits, 180 are singles. This is with power, contact, and solid hits sliders maxed out and on rookie...
