HOF versus All Star on PS3 Version

I had played on HOF for many months, on the PS2. The problem is that my left-stick skills really aren't great, and I got most of my hits when I guessed the pitch correctly. I have that feature on, obviously.

Just switched over to PS3 version, two weeks ago. Picked it up for less than $20 on EBay.

So now I'm tired of getting most of my hits in a way that feels kinda cheap to me. I'm thinking about either: 1) switching to All-Star and turning GuessPitch off, or 2) turning up my Contact on HOF.

If you're in the same boat as me (stuck between HOF and All-Star, worried about having too easy a time pitching on All-Star because you get people out pretty well in HOF, not quick with the left stick), I'd love to hear any feedback on your experiences on the PS3.

I know, I know, the new game drops soon. But I'm gonna guess/hope that it will play similar to last year's game overall.

i was in a same boat last year, pitching was good for me on HOF but i couldnt hit worth crap becasue i suck at the L stick as well. So i played on All Star with nemesis' sliders. I pitch with classic and made some adjustments to make pitching more difficult. Pitching is still a little too easy but my hitting is very realistic, i mosty just use timing hitting becasue my reflexes are bad. So i would recommend All Star with a couple tweaks to make pitching a little harder.

      Thanks tree.

Now tell me specifically what "pitching tweaks" you use. Editing the player ratings? Which ones, and how much?

And when you say pitching is still a bit too easy, what type of team E.R.A. and W-L record are you getting, and with what team? That would give me a good idea where you are at.

I'm kinda fond of Meter pitching, but I'll go back to "classic" if I have to.

i didnt do any player editing.
like i said i use nemesis' sliders and my pitching tweaks are:

        Pitch movement 0 (default)
Pitch Command -4 (creates more walks and sometimes a ball will slip in the zone)
for the CPU offense i use set 3 from nemesis which is:
        contact -8
        power 0

I play with the pirates and my team ERA was just below 3, i was #1 in ERA, Runs allowed, and HRs allowed so it was still too easy.

        my record was 98-64

but i just made the change of pitch command and moved power back to default. I am getting really good results. I like a challenge with the Pirates but i still want to have a chance at the playoffs.

Classic gives me more walks but Im sure you can use meter but you mgiht not give up as many walks.

let me know if you have any more questions.

Correct me if I'm wrong ... lowering Pitch Command will make it harder to throw strikes.

And RAISING Pitch Movement should also make it harder to throw strikes.

So on All-Star, I'll start with Pitch Command -10 and Pitch Movement +10 and see what happens. Adjust from there.

My concern is that I've been gettting good pitching results on Hall of Fame, with CPU Contact at about -7, Pitch Command at -8 and Pitch Movement at +8.

I'm thinking I'm gonna have to kick CPU Contact on All-Star way, way up to work for me.

I'm looking for realism as much as possible ... ya know, walks, K's, HR's, extra base hits, win some and lose some, good pitchers are good most of the time but not always and bad pitchers are bad but not lit up every time, etc. Ya know, just a perfect video baseball game is all I want!

            yes you are correct.

thats a good idea start at the extreme and go from there especially if you are using meter. I would try to keep contact fairly low it helps with hit variety, if you jack it up it may cause all the hits to be hard line drives. the CPU still gets a lot of hits at -8 for me. if you groove one they will crush it, thats why i like my command to be low so some balls will get thrown in the zone by accident.

Sounds like you are a better pitcher than me but try it out and see what happens.

Re: HOF versus All Star on PS3 Version

It looks like meter pitching may still be too easy this year (demo). I'm hoping that command at 0 and movement at 15 will be good enough for All-Star. I might go to 20 with movement and if I still don't walk enough guys and struggle on the mound I will probably go back to classic which I don't mind. Hard to tell when you are only using good pitchers in the demo. I want to see what the rest of the rotation will do.
