Attn: Carew/Knight: Slider/Roster Editing Beginner Question

I've been perusing these boards for the better part of 3 weeks now, and I had a couple questions for the experts like Carew, Knight, and whomever else could provide some insight..

I've downloaded the slider set that most people are using and it seems to be pretty good. Some little things about arm strength and stolen bases bother me and therein lies my question...

1)How do you guys test your sliders??

2)Do you make adjustments in-game? Or after the game??

3)Do you test by watching CPU vs CPU or by playing??

4)When editing things like arm strength are you going through EVERY single player and just making the little adjustments??

    5) After you make the adjustments, do you just hope that something happens which involves those specific players or is there another quick way to check this stuff?

Thanks for all the help. This is by far the best forum with the most active contributors I have seen and I find myself spending more time on here than playing the game ... or depending on how you look at it

Anyways, if anyone could provide some insight into my questions I would sincerely appreciate it!

Re: Attn: Carew/Knight: Slider/Roster Editing Beginner Question

I have further questions myself that I have posted in the roster section but mabye they will see it here:

I plan on using Knights rosters when they come out and i want to start a franchise once they do.

My question is after the first year of my Franchise how do I find all of the new players that come into the league?

I am going to have to edit new player rating to keep them in line with Knights Adjustments.

Also how will I know how much to adjust what? Mabye if Knight reads this he will have time to answer that part.

Anyways thanks for your time as always

I'm not a big slider guy.
I like to edit the players themselves to get what I'm looking to achieve.
To me....Edits FIX gameplay....Sliders FINE TUNE gameplay

When I edit...it's every single player....my method is trying to find the "best" at a particular portion of the game that needs attention...and the "worst"(I'm using the quotations because it's not exact...there are countless debates on the "best" OF arm in baseball )....get the attribute slider to give me that reaction and work the players in that range.

I test with CPU vs. CPU.....Manage only mode.......simming and actually playing games. I try and use at least three seasons of a mix of them to check the results. The game has A LOT of variance.

I know what you are not liking about arms and stolen bases and BOTH will be fixed. ....I actually don't think the OF arms are the biggest part of what needs fixing....I think it's the OF reaction(they get to the ball quickly and get the throws off quickly....as a matter of fact you will see that Nemisis' sliders have Arm Strength at +5 from default. That is perfect for getting the OF to forego the cutoff man in the correct situations and throw directly to the base and home plate. I will adjust the OF reaction and arm ratings accordingly.

I usually do global edits(rather than just one player) as I'm pretty familiar with what will happen when I make an edit now. I hesitated on just editing right off the bat this year and got some testing and results in(from many guys..thanks!)...because they changed the guts ever so slightly(and not so slightly with stolen bases!)....

      Hope this helps..

        trau....

After each FA off season period...I go through each teams roster and just check the players against MLB.com and MiLB.com....
I know most of the players...so if I have a question about a certain guy...I just use the search on those sites...and if he doesn't come up..he gets an edit.

Knight- Would these player edits work with AllStar mode or HOF?

Can you explain what you mean by global editing?

            Thanks for the detailed information!

Also, when you put out this roster update (first time i've played the show so first experience with all of this)...you will have tried to accurately interpret each players edits? And I won't have to do them at all?? That would be super...when do you foresee this being complete?

When I say global...I just mean all players...I don't just do one specific guy(well I can only do them one at a time...but...) I take the entire league and edit each guy accordingly.

When you download the roster.....you won't have to do anything except play...and have fun!

Done?....we're shooting for opening day...but I'd say a little after.
Especially if I don't get my butt editing and stay off the forums!

So you manually go in and edit EVERY player relative to one another??

                    Yes...
It's tough...because some of the fielding ratings(range...arm) is subjective.
I collect as much data as I can and try and make each player relative to one another.
It's even tougher with the AAA and AA guys...even less info on them.

Sorry to be bugging you, I hope you aren't annoyed!! Since it's so subjective how do you decide which payers get which ratings? I've seen some people on here talk about some type of rating system...
Can't remember what it's called though... Reason I'm asking is so that down the road if I need to make any tweaks then I can do so.

                      Thanks again Knight!

PS How do you find so much time to do all of this?? What's the secret!?!
