    comfortable with pitch speed?

Are most players using this slider at default 10?

I've tried it at zero and I see more balls hit down the lines for both me and the cpu.

    Re: comfortable with pitch speed?

I'm experimenting with using it to cut down on my hit totals. It's sacrificing hit quality right now (less gappers, more up-the-middle singles).

    I'm at +6 on HOF.

The good thing about a high Pitch Speed is that you KNOW when you are facing someone bringing the heat. Very realistic. I cringe when the CPU hands the ball to someone who throws 98 MPH and up.

      Re: comfortable with pitch speed?

I agree.. I think pitch speed has to be at a minimum of +5 to really feel the difference between a guy who throws a lot of heat and a guy like Zito who throws 85-87 tops.

If you play enough, your timing will get better. At first its crazy because you feel like you are overpowered quite a bit, but when you face some of the lower quality SP, you will be able to tee off on their fastballs because you were so used to 95+ mph fastballs from some of the top tier starters.

I have been playing with pitch speed at +10 and I cant see myself going back. My hands sweat when its the 9th inning and I am down by a run and a guy like Krod or someone comes in with a blazing fastball and slider. It just feels more real.

With pitch speed lower, I am not worried about hitting a mid 90s fastball because its just too easy to adjust to.

So +10 would make it more realistic ? even on veteran or all star ?

i played my first game of the season with the reds and hit 5 HR's i need a challenge.
The White Sox will return to top !!!!!
        or
The Cubs will suck again !!!

        Either way im happy.

No, it's not as simple as +10 is more realistic.

Generally, I would say you will get less hits the higher the Pitch Speed. Just human reflexes at play.

At +10, you might find the game LESS realistic, because you won't be able to hit.

If your current Difficulty Level is too easy, the best first step is to move up a level, and not move the sliders.

              Re: comfortable with pitch speed?

Now, to play devils' advocate, the other side is the argument that Pitch Speed should be at Default or lower, so that you can get around on fastballs and pull them.

In fact, that's a good test. If you're looking fastball in a certain location, and get it there, can you hit the ball well most of the time with a decent hitter?

If so, you are probably on a good Pitch Speed for you.

Following my own thought process in this thread, I'm now going to move Pitch Speed from +6 down to 0. Mostly because I would really like to stop using Guess Pitch as a crutch for hitting.

                Re: comfortable with pitch speed?

Do you guys feel that increasing pitch speed effects the cpu hitting i.e. they will have a harder time to?

I've tried it at plus 20 and at default and at -6 and it at 0.

I'M UNDECIDED...EACH ONE OFFERS SOMETHING DIFFERENT.

                  Re: comfortable with pitch speed?

CPU hitting is not affected by Pitch Speed. It's only about your hitting, your timing.

                    Re: comfortable with pitch speed?

I use -4 and GP off for Hall of Fame. I also have CPU pitch control at +10 so it's not like all I have to do is get around on fastballs down the plate; for the most part, I still have trouble with the heater because most of them are around the corners with movement, which is at +10. And with Hall of Fame, even if you do turn on a fastball, you have to be bang on with the L-stick otherwise it'll turn into a weak grounder or pop-up.

Just keep in mind that we're not Major League hitters here, and that the most important thing is feeling comfortable with your reactions to incoming pitches. Personally, I find it easier to swing an actual bat than to aim the L-stick and press X with perfect timing. But I've never faced a 95mph heater either...

I prefer pitch speed at -10. I would never play the game with the pitch speed higher than say........ +2.

                        Re: comfortable with pitch speed?

On my PSP, I play with it at -10. With the smaller screen, it gives me a better look at the ball. Plus, I am able to pull some balls.

I still get frozen at the plate when the pitcher makes a good pitch.

Brian from SCEA said pitch speed has no effect on the game other than slowing down or speeding up the way the pitch looks. So, it comes down to what ever you are comfortable with. If the game gets too easy, go up a level. If it still seems easy, increase pitch speed.

Pitch speed at full - only way to play! Then pro-rate individual pitch speed ratings down to see a REAL difference between the hard throwers and soft tossers. A completely different game experience, I guarantee it.

Is it just me or does pitch speed not really affect fastball speed but the speed of the off-speed stuff? Because I messed with the pitch speed slider the first week I got the game. And, I remember at one point I lowered to 0 and upped it to 20 expecting to be completely blown away by fastballs but I wasn't at all. I've been playing at 6 for about a month now. Also, offline speed is definitely faster than online speed because it takes a few batters for me to adjust to offline after playing online.

i can cleary see the diference between hard throwers and soft tossers with pitch speed at -10...
also i tried +10 some games last week...didnt feel the fastball was that much faster..only the breaking stuff was a lot faster and easier to hit, for me.
